Crash course in being feral

If you're new to being a feral, here's what you need to do:

  1. Create a zombie character or get your survivor killed
  2. Go to Buttonville, which is where we are now
  3. Waste your AP on something fun...you're a feral, not a commando
  4. Have fun! By FAR the most important thing, so it bears repeating

Seriously. We're here to have fun, not be mindless AP efficiency machines. Go dance in the streets, rattle at passing zombies and survivors, or just goof off doing random stuff.

If you're looking for some other advice though, then after you do those first two, you could also do these:

  1. If you see a building that's open and not ruined, go in
    • If there are lots of people inside, GROAN
    • Start killing things indiscriminately
    • Rattle at the harmanz, smash the decorations, and ruin the place
  2. If you can't find an open building, look for one with low barricades or lots of zombies outside
    • Attack the barricades
    • If you get in, go back to step 1
    • If you don't, save some AP for yourself, just in case you get in later

Being a feral is all about having fun and not giving a damn about organization and forced groupings. You can still be a feral while following us around, and we encourage folks to do just that, but you're welcome to come and go as you please. If you stick around if we're in your neighborhood, then part ways once we're gone, that's fine too.

If you want some more information on leveling up a zombie, which skills to get, and other tips on how to play, you can look through a guide.

Crash course in strike teams

We sometimes will have strike teams working with the Bash, and, most of the time, anyone who wants to join in is welcome to do so. Strike teams are NOT the focus of Big Bash 4, but sometimes they're useful for cracking open harder targets so that everyone else can get in. You will never be required to be a strike team member to be in the Bash, nor will the strike teams be getting all of the glory. That said, if you want to see what they're like and have never been a part of a strike team before, here are a few pointers.

  1. Be on IRC in the appropriate channel at least 5 minutes before the posted time of the strike
  2. If your zombie character is low level, let them know beforehand since you may get special instructions
  3. The strike team leader will give you a target location and coordinates; move there
    • If you don't know where it is, check the map for the suburb we're in
  4. The leader will tell you how much AP to use on the barricades and when to attack them
    • Oftentimes you'll report how many barricade collapses you had out of your attacks (e.g. "3/10")
  5. If the leader asks for an "AP count", tell them how much AP you have
  6. When you get in, wait for the leader's instructions
    • You may be asked to groan or attack the generator
    • You may be assigned a target to attack, or told to "pick and kill" a target you choose
    • You may be asked to "follow" someone by attacking their target after they're done
    • You may be asked to "hold" or to save AP so you can "fade"
  7. If you're fading, save the appropriate AP, then move to the fade location

Strike teams tend to be more serious than just roaming around as a feral, but some people really enjoy seeing the barricades crumble under the combined might of a team, or seeing the humans scurry in fear as you break in and slaughter them quickly. If that's your sort of thing, then you may like strike teams. If not, then don't worry about it, since we're building this party around the ferals, not the strike teams.

Terminology

Zombies have a lot of strange terminology that may be difficult to follow for newcomers. The following is a non-exhaustive list of words you might hear or see bantered around in the zombie community. We're not asking you to learn them, and we're definitely not asking you to do all of them. They're just here so you can find out what they mean. We'll add more as time goes on, but if you'd like a more complete list, you could check out the Zombie Lexicon.

  • [[::?rise|:?rise]] - A way of standing up before you're dumped, it burns survivor AP
  • APed or Aped - Completely out of AP
  • Babahz - Baby zombies, usually under level 10
  • Banana - The zombie fruit of choice! Oftentimes said with "gangbang"
  • Barhah - It's the spirit of zombiedom that we want to share with the breathers
  • Brazzaz - "Brothers", oftentimes said with "z!zzahz"
  • Bra!nz - The humans call them "brains", but we like how we say it better
  • Breathers - Our way of saying anyone that is still alive
  • Death Cultist - Zombies that sometimes become breathers to do damage
  • Fade - When strike teams go somewhere else to sway at the end of their strike
  • Feral Cloud - That's us! The ones following the group doing whatever we want
  • Gangbang - What we shout and then do to harmanz when breaking into their buildings
  • Harmanz - Our way of saying "humans"
  • Meatshield - When harmanz stay in buildings so we can eat their brains
  • Parachuting - A way to get inside buildings without breaking the barricades
  • Piñata - A ruined building that still has barricades
  • Rotter - One of us that has Brain Rot
  • Strike Team - A coordinated group of zombies that attack at the same time
  • Sway - What a zombie does after they run out of AP
  • X:00 - A way for uncoordinated zombies to attack at the same time
  • Zargar - A "zerger"; we like eating them first since they cheat at the game
  • Zed - That's us! It's a way that the breathers say "zombie"
  • Zethren - Like "brethren", but for zombies
  • Z!zzahz - "Sisters", oftentimes said with "brazzaz"
