Tagging a police station earns 2 XP. They are listed as a Tactical Resource Point. Police Stations can be barricaded normally.

The reason it has been chosen is due to the fact it allows entry to that block of the building in that cluster(commonly called islands, I find it helpful to think of Malton as lands of buildings and seas of open spaces)
