CORAM/CalendarOfEvents

ORPHAN.jpg Orphaned Page
The following page(s) were orphaned, meaning they weren't linked from any other page on UDWiki. For house-keeping's sake, we are adding the link onto the relevant talk page. If you don't want the pages anymore just post them on the Deletions Page. You aren't required to do anything, but we'd appreciate if it you kept the link on any one of your pages.

Please note that the link provided below will not remove the page from Orphaned Pages, so you'll still need to manually make a link for us. Thank you.

Your page, CORAM/CalendarOfEvents, was not linked to on the wiki. This message is just to provide a link for it and clear it from our orphanage. It should be pointed out that pages included in other pages are not removed from this list.--User:Yonnua Koponen/signature2 17:57, 24 August 2010 (BST)

Thanks for the help, and also, a few questions

Thanks for the welcome. I appreciated it.

I also have a few questions for you, if you don't mind.

1. Is it smart to put your character's name into your user page? 2. Is Urban Dead active anymore, or is it slowly dying out? 3. Any news from Kevan about his status?

Thanks again.

Specific Help?

What you need? Page design is amazingly good by the way. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 21:26, 25 August 2010 (BST)

Specific things I'd like help with are the short story composition. I need some judges and maybe some direction on regulations. I've browsed the past completions and am thinking of going with a similar outline to the one you hosted not long ago. I could also use some art help. I want to have some banner-like images for the tops of the event pages. There will be an Oktoberfest event. Halloween event and a Red October PK event. Red October will be sort of an anachronistic rendition of the October Revolution and subsequent Soviet Civil War where reds and whites hunt one another. I would like to see a siege at the end as well. I'll keep working on the design and get more concrete event plans up soon.~Vsig.png 21:46, 25 August 2010 (BST)
I dont mind being a guest judge. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 18:54, 26 August 2010 (BST)
Sure, just ask on my talkpage whenever you need. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 19:03, 26 August 2010 (BST)

Right

Looking at Red October it seems the perfect event for us. HOWEVER! Read this Malton Manhunt/Axe Hack's Manhunt 3 and its talk page, and I'd look at rewriting the rules so thery're slightly clearer. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 19:02, 7 September 2010 (BST)

Welcome Template

The section in your welcome template where you manually type in the name of the user can be circumvented by you just adding {{PAGENAME}} in to the original template in place of the variable. For example, if I posted it on your page, it would come up as Vapor/archives. Just to ease up on typing it if you're going to.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 15:46, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

Countdown Timer

It's going to be hard to get minute resolution without caching issues. The weather templates lag the day-rollover by about an hour, and I was only able to get that resolution by having hidden time magic words in the individual templates to have "more of the page" change with each hour. The only thing I can think of is to maybe have some hidden text as well in your template (use the same color as the background and make the fonts small) that updates with the counter so that enough things change with the hour? The page looks solid but I can't think of any good worarounds to the caching problems with the minute counter. If I do, I'll be sure to let you know. -MHSstaff 00:23, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

Greetings Potential Competitor. The Duck hunt will start very soon. The First Sitting Duck "Sacrificial Mudkip" is in place.

Ooh, you like the iPad? Despite being an Apple fanboy, I haven't actually picked one up yet. Every time I see one of my friends using one, I see all these cool things that I could easily see myself doing, but at the same time, I just don't quite see it fitting in and filling a need that I have. It just seems like it does some things differently and better, rather than doing anything new, so I probably couldn't use it to replace my laptop, my desktop, or my phone, which keeps me from pulling the trigger on a purchase. That said, I'd love to be convinced to get one. ;) Aichon 19:48, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
Yeah 18GB was a total lie. 40GB is more accurate. MicroSd is dirt cheap and nColor takes up to 32GB. But if open source OS and root capabilities aren't your thing, the double-the-cost iPad is probably the way to go although I would probably pick up a galaxy tab or one of the other 30 Android tabs revealed this summer at E3. Your First Job

Congrats Vapor! Now can you work your sysopsy super-happy-fun magic stuff to fix my FA error? It looks fine in the FA page, but it looks broken in the main page. In my mind, having to manually cycle these makes little sense when the wiki can do it for us.-MHSstaff 19:11, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

The easiest way to do it would be to just set up each FA blurb on its own page (e.g. FA1, FA2, FA2, etc., like you did with FA1) and then use the CURRENTWEEK magic word to change the last digit (e.g. {{path/to/article/FA{{CURRENTWEEK}}}}.
The better solution would be to have it actually call a template inside a template, like so {{{{templatename|current|{{CURRENTWEEK}}}}}}. The inner template's code should consist of a set of switch statements that will give you back a path to the current/past featured article based on the current week and whether you say "current" or "past" for the first variable. That link will then get filled in for the outer template, which will result in the page at that link being inserted.
The problem with both of these solutions is that they only support 54 FAs at the most (i.e. max number of weeks in the year), are difficult to edit (though not particularly difficult as code goes), and still don't properly archive the older entries in any sort of meaningful way, though we could simply change the archiving procedure to fix that last issue. Aichon 22:50, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
Vapor, if you swing by Aichon's talk page, I sorta outlined my current thoughts for doing this. Hopefully it makes some sense. -MHSstaff 19:32, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

code quest

how do i put a uh, frame inside a frame? ie - like here - if i want a small green frame around that paragraph, instead of the green lines? --    : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : 15:47, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

To be honest, the Mester Arms page is currently breaking Location Style Guide rules. But to answer your question, it would need to be a nested table. It looks like you copied the div table from the top of the CORAM page, which basically is just setting up the basic style of the page. In order to nest a table, you would use the same code but without the div tags. ~Vsig.png 15:58, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, I've long wondered when someone would notice that. May make it a bit more subtle and hope it goes un-noticed. Thanks for the div wisdom x --    : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : 16:09, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

NP. I looked at the code again and it would take a bit more than just removing the div tags to make it work. A whoel table would need to be coded. I can take a look at it after you've made your changes if you want. ~Vsig.png 16:13, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, I just tried playing around with div stuff. Didn't work. Have removed main frame and background colour now. Just wanna try and replace the green lines with a green frame now. --    : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : 16:15, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Danger Report Questions

Hey vapor, I'm not exactly new around here but I do come and go a lot. I was looking at a few building types that have a weird danger report policy. For example all the Cathedrals are 4 block buildings and can be turned into a pinata according to the danger report, wile malls are also 4 block buildings and according to the danger report can not be pinata'd. Stadiums, power stations, mansions and large churches also can be pinata'd according to the wiki. I think we should give all 4 block buildings the same number of attacking zombies to danger level, with the addition of adding a Pinata danger level to all malls. Although it might be very rare that a mall ever does get pinata'd, that does not mean it can't happen. This would help a lot of the newer wiki users when updating building statuses. I would like your input. RaddoX 06:23, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Piñata was added as a status to the template that gets displayed on every type of building except for malls sometime last year. Since malls use a different template for the statuses that can affect them, it appears to have been missed. Anyway, since folks have liked the piñata status on the wiki, I did go ahead and fix the discrepancy. No sense in having them be different, as you pointed out. Aichon 08:42, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, Aichon. And to Raddox for pointing it out. ~Vsig.png 14:18, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

Move Requests

As a sysop, you don't need to request moves for simple things like namespacing anymore. :P For example, you could have just done the group recruitment ad you put up yourself. When it's absolutely clear cut, you can feel free to move it without actually putting up the request. --Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 07:41, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Suburb Groups

I think we just start a project page, with two weeks for nominations for categories following by a two week vote with maintain status quo listed as an option. Otherwise the talk page might get unwieldy. If you agree, I'll throw it up. Otherwise, I'll throw it up under different sections on the talk page, unwieldiness be damned. -MHSstaff 18:34, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

Meh, I agree with others that Open Discussion is where ideas go to die. I honestly don't have a whole lot of invested interest in it so I don't care if the discussion dies or not but if you want this to go somewhere, then template discussion might be the best place to have it, unwieldy or not. We could of course keep the policy discussion going and hope that people keep their heated opinions to the policy page. Your call. ~Vsig.png 18:49, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

Yeah

The guide, like spawning before it is an open document, so as time progresses I'll add more. It's like the difference experiments in my user area. For now I wanted the guide to be short and punchy, knowing full well that long guides never get read. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 10:06, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

Did you catch who pk'd the MERCY member? --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 16:39, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
Nope, I didn't grab it. I think I was on the Nook when it showed up on my What Happened so i couldn't dumbwit it. ~Vsig.png 16:41, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
Fair enough, MERCY are generally good peoples. Swing by glassy in vinetown and say hi to sister rita and the rest of the gang. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 16:43, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
Yeah from what I see of MERCY so far they seem like good folk. I'm going to start making some connections in the area in case this experiment turns into something more tangible and Jimmy finds a home in Pegton. ~Vsig.png 16:57, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
Mercy's forum contains members of MDK and The spanish I... amongst others. Tell them you know Mike Carson as well. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 17:02, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

Suburb Group Poll Thingy

Probably going to be something like this. What changes should we make? I haven't really put in any "criteria for "passing"" type of stuff in it.-MHSstaff 18:35, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

Also, it is probably better (IMO) to keep the suburb map and the group-classifier things on separate polls. -MHSstaff 18:56, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
Ok its looking pretty good. I would suggest using unique headers instead of Yes and No headers. I'll elaborate on this on your sandbox. Something I think we should keep in mind is that from the discussion's onset, the interest has been focused more on preventing conflicts rather than an actual desire to make the surbrb groups NPOV (at least that's how I've viewed it). IMO the only thing POV about it is the word Hostile. There seem to be three camps right now. Those who want to prevent conflict by making suburb groups absolutely all inclusive, those who want to make it simple and utalitarian and those that want to just deal with conflicts through arbitration or precedent. In actuality there is probably something that falls somewhere in between. Another way of helping to prevent conflict and a way of dealing with it when it arrises. I'll elaborate on thisnthought once poll discussion opens.
I think your good to go with your draft of the poll now. We can tweak as we go. We can open a seperate poll for suburb map if it will make it easier. The two are closely related and could probably be dicussed in the same place but it would likely extend discussion before the poll is actually opened. I'm going to be pretty busy today and likely won't be able to help with the poll until later. ~Vsig.png 19:20, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
Is "poll discussion" discussing the draft of the poll and its guidelines, or when polling actually begins? -MHSstaff 19:28, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
Before it opens. The scope of the poll should be discussed before it is opened. The idea is that if we leave off any important points, the poll could be considered unfair and not an actual measure of the public opinion. ~Vsig.png 19:32, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
I see. We throw up the draft, give people a week to suggest changes, and then polling begins. -MHSstaff 19:33, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
Yep only that one week is only a suggestion. Polling should really only open once it is clear that the scope is as complete as it can get. Sometimes that's a few days, sometimes longer. ~Vsig.png 19:38, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
It's going to be five days because I gone next week, and we have sorta discussed parts of this for the last couple of weeks. -MHSstaff 19:40, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
Yeah a lot of discussion has already taken place so it shouldn't take long. I'll add my thoughts about conflict resolution later this evening. ~Vsig.png 19:48, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

Ah, indeed it does. Does that stuff only work for category pages? I didn't know you could do that. Also, the unban jedaz poll being protected, I can't put it in there. Would you do that instead, please? Thanks. -- †  talk ? f.u. 02:27, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

Nope its not just categories. You can transclude practically any page just like you do with templates. Just place a colon in front of the page title. And why yes, I can add requested edits to protected pages. I'!ll add the polnav template now. ~Vsig.png 02:52, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

Wiki folks involved in the Spawning experiment

I think I have them now all covered since Mike Carson suffered a similar fate. Sadly not as educational as in the latter case, but WHY DO YOU HAVE TO DRESS SO PROVOCATIVELY? Totally screwing with poor Sally's hormones. --Sally A. Summers i Ω i 22:44, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

James is a member of Fight Factory. The founding member in fact. That means no shoes and no shirt. Oh and thanks for refueling the genny and not dumping my boddy before you left. That was mighty nice of you. ~Vsig.png 23:21, 7 March 2011
