hi just wondering if you could tell me how i should go about making a group page for a zombie group i want to start, and where i can recruit members. thanks. jp.

A Hunt Involving Men

I'm thinking, about organising it. Thoughts so far are,

  • 2 player teams

0r

  • Sitting Ducks. That is random bonus characters are introduced every few days, person who kills them gets bonus points, plus it brings everyone closer together.

What you reckon?

--RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 16:00, 1 October 2009 (BST)

Sounds cool, how do we find random bonus characters? Are they involved in the hunt originally or randoms? Either way is good obvs, just wondering who will decide which randoms are the bonuses? --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 17:01, 1 October 2009 (BST)

[1] thats how, the grand high commander creates them. 3 bonus points for whoever finds the bonus man in Vinetown --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 19:01, 1 October 2009 (BST)

moza tov on your promotion!

Reorganize History

On your project page, you note the need to reorganize Category:History. What do you mean by that? Put it in chronological order? Sub-categorize it? also, congrats on the crat. --RahrahCome join the #party!21:32, 4 October 2009 (BST)~

Category:History is currenlty a mixture of POV group history, events relevant to the game's history and also historical events made by Kevan. Some of us had some plans to fix it up. Rooster and I had the conversation here about it, I don't usually get around to recategorization because it's on the lower half of my list of to-do's on the wiki. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 02:01, 5 October 2009 (BST)

Questions

I want to make a page for my alt. I want to avoid all the confusion of VB related things, now do I have to create a User:Kalei page or do I have to create it as a User:DarkBlueHelmet/Kalei page? Thanks. --DBHT 02:05, 5 October 2009 (BST)

It would be User:DarkBlueHelmet/Kalei, as there's no such user named "Kalei." Non-existant userpages are criteria for automatic moving, I forget which exactly. --Bob Boberton TF / DW Littlemudkipsig.gif 03:15, 5 October 2009 (BST)
You have the page put at User:Dark Blue Helmet/Kalei. Look like it's already been done, good luck with the page. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 05:52, 5 October 2009 (BST)
Thanks. I made the page after Bob had said to do it that way. --DBHT 14:53, 5 October 2009 (BST)

Orphans

The no content ones will be up for deletions, any ones with a home base will be added to the history section of that building. Everything else? Not sure yet. But it gets them off the orphans list for now. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 12:09, 5 October 2009 (BST)

Re: Suggestions

Yeah, you'd be right. Must have just put it into the wrong heading. I may be drinking too much... Nothing to be done! 22:22, 9 October 2009 (BST)

Any chance you can do a ghost image type thang on it? --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 09:33, 11 October 2009 (BST)

Sysop

As you said on Boxy's A/M case, there are currently only 3 active sysops. So, instead of applying as a sysop next month, as I had planned, I'm thinking I may well do it quite soon. Do you think I've made the necessary improvements before my application?--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 16:18, 11 October 2009 (BST)

Think you fit the criteria? If so, try and work out what questions people will ask you of the process. Why do you want to be a sysop? What would you do with your sysop power? What are your achievements? That kind of thing. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 16:31, 11 October 2009 (BST)
The only thing which I might not meet is indication of trust (which is why I've asked here, and asked on other sysop's talks before). I want to be a sysop to
  1. Help the wiki by taking some of the burden from the others sysops.
  2. Be able to deal with admin stuff while the other sysops are asleep or whatever (from what I can tell, Cyberbob, DDR and Boxy are all australian. As I'm on the other side of the globe, I'm likely to be online at different times.)
If I had sysop powers, I'd really just keep on with what I'm doign now, except I'd also do more work on the admin pages, and use the powers I'd gain to help speed things up. As for my achievments, I archive all the suburb news every month (on the 12th actually, so I'll be doign that tomorrow), and I've started (and nearly completed) updating the suburbs with those little icon in the header things. I'm also an arbitrator, though I haven't one cases. Stuff like that.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 16:37, 11 October 2009 (BST)
Don't forget the orphan stuff. Thats another admin thing. I'd come upwith a better reason than 1. Remember that a lot of bids and votes attract drama. Being a sysop means VB and misconduct, how you deal with these in a bid reflects how you would deal with them as s sop. If you are after more admin things why not try adding to this. Suburb/History#The_Record --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 16:54, 11 October 2009 (BST)
Yeah, i've seen that before, but I can't do it because it doesn't fit on this screen. I guess I could fumble with adding screenshots together, but it's rather overtly ridiculous. And I'm aware of the a/vb and a/m thing, and I feel that I could handle it.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 16:57, 11 October 2009 (BST)
Could you not use the zoom function on your browser? --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 17:13, 11 October 2009 (BST)
It's feasible.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 17:15, 11 October 2009 (BST)
Besides, the suburb map really doesn't show the actual state of the city. It's a pretty terrible system.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 17:15, 11 October 2009 (BST)
To be frank, I'm looking for more in a sysop than just a queue handler, the admin chores never sit for more than a couple of hours, mostly thanks to Bob, so that's not in my priorities with new ops at the moment. It could change anytime, of course, but at the moment I want more strong willed people on the team. The truth is at the moment the only user in the community I would vouch is Rosslessness, when it comes to anyone else I'm just going to hear out the community's say more than anything else. I'm planning on writing a small article on tasks and things I think people should consider adopting if they want to help out the sysops, just in case people find themselves in your position working to become an op for the wiki. Obviously you don't have to wait for it.
It doesn't hurt to have a promotion bid anyway even if you aren't going to get into the position, I did it, it lets users tell you straight and honestly what they want out of you as a sysop and in my experience it is the best critiquing tool, even if the bid itself fails horribly. I'd recommend it for sure. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 17:41, 11 October 2009 (BST)
Cool, I'll set one up on tuesday, or sometime around then.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 17:44, 11 October 2009 (BST)
Oh, and read the old bids! see how most people react. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 17:49, 11 October 2009 (BST)
Definitely a doozey. Read the archives of old user bids, successful bids of users that interest you. It helps you understand more about the community and the wiki as a whole- definitely a good thing to do on a rainy day, and something I think you'd be interested in Yonnua, given your epic narrative stuff about present day admin business. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 17:52, 11 October 2009 (BST)
And if you don't get in find a project to do that puts a massive template on as many pages as possible in an admin type way.
{{Group Active?}}

I've actually already looked at loads of the old bids, funnily enough.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 18:23, 11 October 2009 (BST)
In a nutshell my initial sentiment towards sysop-ready users is that they do our jobs for us; for example if they see something needing a move, like a noobs character page in the mainspace, move it over themselves, check for incoming links, change them, and then template:speedydelete the original page and put it up for A/SD, then notify the user of the change. Saves us the trouble of doing all of the above, and we instead have to just press one delete button rather than having to worry about everything else in the move. Something like that, for example, demonstrates that you know how the system works, you know how to do you job properly and you also work tightly with the community and new users. Proactive stuff like that can mean alot to some people. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 00:02, 12 October 2009 (BST)
^^^^^^^^ Cyberbob  Talk  01:18, 12 October 2009 (BST)

It was more of a challenge. You have a lot of people chiming in on misconduct, but very few sysops. Combined with your "only 3 active comment" I thought It might nudge people towards a promotion bid or two. I reckon that at least 3 users who should put in bids before the end of the year, and 1 or 2 of them will be successful. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 18:03, 11 October 2009 (BST)

Sorry

I missed the guidelines page when I was looking through the policy, and I never meant to offend you, or to stir up drama. I was just providing what I thought at the time was a correct policy interpretation. Naturally, I'd forgotten about the most important page. <_<. Ah well, sorry about that.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! It wasn't for you, it was for Iscariot, you never offended me, don't worry. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 19:20, 13 October 2009 (BST)
Oh, cool. Just checking, because I didn't want to annoy anyone, and I did kind of invade the conversation with pointless (and incorrect) drivle.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 19:32, 13 October 2009 (BST)

Not Sorry

So are you gonna leave it alone now that boxy said to?--xoxo 17:08, 13 October 2009 (BST)

You can't be serious. You disgust me. I thought the question was all too obvious; are you going to leave it alone? You little parasite? --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 19:18, 13 October 2009 (BST)
the answer to that was obvious to everyone but you, and hopefully now you've caught on...--xoxo 16:02, 16 October 2009 (BST)
Why would I? I don't speak "AlIm". --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 16:14, 16 October 2009 (BST)
Not sure what alim has to do with anything, but i will be leaving it alone because my one and only concern was that someone who i had specifically requested don't edit my groups page did edit it. Simple huh? --xoxo 16:23, 16 October 2009 (BST)
Yeah, and all I was concerned about was that the page was categorised, and Boxy did so. Even simpler, no? --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 16:26, 16 October 2009 (BST)
Mmm sounds nice and simple but the fact that you reverted my edit rather than simply leaving it or requesting someone else make the edit reeks of bad faith. Whatever, continue with personal vendetta, i can cope. --xoxo 16:30, 16 October 2009 (BST)
If it reeks of bad faith, send me to A/VB. Interesting how you didn't, what with the community protecting your back just so heavily. I reverted your edit because I was in the right, if I weren't you would have happily done something about it. Wiki apathy for the lose. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 16:34, 16 October 2009 (BST)
I did nothing about it because i came back and boxy, who you'd like to think you're just as mature as had fixed it all up. No A/VB necessary.--xoxo 16:40, 16 October 2009 (BST)
You misinterpret my self esteem. And don't talk to me about maturity. Reverting a categorisation because a user you don't like used it? Sheesh. Just let this all go. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 16:42, 16 October 2009 (BST)
I would have bought that before i logged in today and saw your tirade of edits against me. And i don't not like you, i just don't understand you...--xoxo 16:44, 16 October 2009 (BST)
Ditto. And my 'tirade' was brought on by your typical cries of "vendetta" and "personal bullydome" despite the issue at hand: I wanted to categorise a page and you reverted it for nothing less than a petty kick to get one up on me. How would you expect me to react. With lulz? --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 16:47, 16 October 2009 (BST)
Honestly? I thought you'd take a chance to be mr mature and leave it, or contact boxy or one of your alts for all i care and get them to make the edit - both easy and avoiding of drama, well maybe not the alt one...--xoxo 16:50, 16 October 2009 (BST)
I did appeal for users to do it, hence why Boxy did it. I hoped it wouldn't have to come to it. Why are we still discussing this? --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 17:00, 16 October 2009 (BST)
Coz you keep ending your posts with questions? --xoxo 17:02, 16 October 2009 (BST)
One wonders your excuse for the other two. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 17:07, 16 October 2009 (BST)
lol if you wonder then just drop a question mark in there and i'll be more than happy to fill you in :) --xoxo 17:09, 16 October 2009 (BST)

In response to this

Since you hastily protected the page i'll reply to you here - i'm not really gonna bother writing much since you've clearly lost any sense of reason. There's not just black or white but all shades of grey and lets agree that boxy did us both a favour. I'm not sure what you're all het up about but maybe calm down a tad and cut the personal stuff, its not a good look for the usually cool headed and nonconfrontational ddr.--xoxo 16:17, 16 October 2009 (BST)

Being told from you of all people to worry about image is rather condescending. I think I'll manage, thanks.
And fyi, I scheduled it because I'm a sysop and it's my job. You had a whole day to reply to me and you didn't, your loss. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 16:32, 16 October 2009 (BST)

Why should I bother? The issue is closed by your own admission- Box fixed it up and I've moved on. God knows why you're coming back to it? --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 16:35, 16 October 2009 (BST)
Don't bother for all i care. I'm coming back to it because your reponse is so outrageously emotional i feel there must be something deeper going on here. If you don't wanna discuss thats fine, but like i said - try if possible to keep wiki/irl seperate. --xoxo 16:38, 16 October 2009 (BST)

I don't. The wiki is a playground for our personalities. I thought we'd already discussed this. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 17:00, 16 October 2009 (BST)

Earletown Barricade Plan

Currently there are two conflicting barricade plans for Earletown. There is BOW's plan, and there is another plan I think the latter one makes no sense, with all hospitals heavily barricaded and inaccessible to newbies, but it's the one put on the suburb page. However, the page Earletown Barricade Plan redirect to BOW's page. This is extremely confusing.

Since you're the one who make latest edits and redirects on those two plans a few days ago, I have to ask you this: which plan is the real barricade plan which was reviewed on October 10, 2009? I'm inclined to switch the plan to BOW's one, since it looks better. But I believe asking people who reviewed it is a better idea. Thank you. -- Kittithaj 21:59, 19 October 2009 (BST)

I didn't actually review it, I was just working on both the pages to move a category over, so I've never actually seen the content. Template:Earletown Barricade Plan's image is 2 years more recent to BOW's version, but since there are not really any preferences over who has the "official" barricade plan (a cade plan is only as official as however well a group enforces it), it's up to guys like you, regulars in the suburb, at leased I assume you are, to choose which one is more appropriate. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 01:23, 20 October 2009 (BST)
I can answer that question, since I am conducting the recent string of reviews for UBP compliance. The plan that was reviewed was the template. If the BOW plan is the one more commonly used throughout the suburb, let me know on the UBP page and I will re-review the suburb later this week. Either way, locals will want to decide on one plan and remove the other, or at least request that the link to it from the suburb page be removed. --Maverick Talk - OBR Praise Knowledge! 404 09:24, 20 October 2009 (BST)

Noone cares about the Earletown Barricade Plan .xoxo 09:34, 20 October 2009 (BST)

You see, here's the problem: I'm not one of the suburb's regulars. I'm just a passerby who is staying temporarily, and not going to stay longer than a month. Looking at this inconsistency, and the nonsensical of the current barricade plan is giving me headaches. I posted a similar question on both the suburb talk page and BOW's. I think I'm going to leave the decision to them. And if no one cares, it's their loss. -- Kittithaj 19:56, 20 October 2009 (BST)

You should probably stop trying to speak to him, before you pop a blood vessel. Everyone knows that you a user needs to know what an edit should be when they go to make an edit, but he doesn't. He also doesn't seem to understand that he is alone in thinking that the edit boxy made is worse than what was before, and still hasn't provided a precise explanation as to why (unless I am missing). Here's a tactic: don't bother. (ok I know that says personal attacks, but you get the idea, though his posts are now past any substance). --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 02:14, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Yonnua

I find it hilarious that you say "Look what you've started". Also, that you accuse me of going and accusing Boxy of anything, and "not reading the whole situation". Look back at Boxy's talk, and you'll see that I went and asked him politely, and he gave a polite answer, which was completely acceptable, and would've prompted me going back to Iscariot and asking more. Then, someone else turned up and started screamign the place down, actually starting an argument with Iscariot. Oh wait, that was you. Now, I'm not saying that you did it alone, Iscariot definitely helped, but you did cause a major amount of the issue. you have no place telling me that I'm the one who caused the problem.

Now, as we can see from the fact that it's caused such an uproar again, it's a major problem on the wiki. I was just trying to solve it, so that Iscariot wouldn't constantly be trying to get one over on Boxy and the rest of you, and to try and stop him creating an A/A case, which it's pretty obvious he's about to do. I've always found you to be impartial in this sort of thing, but this has even got you stirred up. All I wanted was to try and fix the situation.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 11:40, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
I persisted in defending Boxy's actions because you so successfully managed to get Iscariot worked up on his own talk page, while (as usual) forming no independent opinion of your own. It would have exploded regardless of whether I instigated it or not. Look at how snivelingly pathetic your initial comment was on Boxy's talk. And I'm not just saying that for the sake of it; it is the entire point of my attitude towards the part you played in starting this. "Would it be that much trouble for the edit to be changed back to how it was before, at least until the data is made how it should be?" Of course it would be too much trouble, because attaining what it should be is impossible, because it involves reversing 6 days worth of ban-time that Iscariot unacceptably incurred. If you'd have done a background check on the entire affair, you would have understood that.
The lesson I want you to learn is that we are not incapable retards and the A/VD situation is fucked up for a reason, and will never be perfect, and Boxy did a mighty fine job of fixing it up considering the circumstances, and until Iscariot actually proves that there is a better method to be had (which, I think you'll have gathered by now, we have done nothing other than offer him to share it to no avail), Boxy's version is that which should stay. This is further demonstrated by the fact no one has kicked up a stink but Iscariot himself. All I could have asked in the first place is that you actually had gone and looked at the situation and made your own opinion, and that was the main point of my comment. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 11:57, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
Well, part of making my own opinion was to see what the two people involved, Boxy and Iscariot, said about it. And why don't we just say that the next 6 days of ban time he gets are discounted, because he's already served them? Arguably, that does mean he can perform vandalism "for free", but that could at least minimalise the issue. Could it? I don't know. It depends upon him acting like a dick, which he always seems to do. Part of this was me hoping that he wouldn't be so immature and aggressive, and that he would cool down and try to resolve it through communication.--Yonnua Koponen Talk ! Contribs 12:16, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
Of course that's the easiest solution, something we'd unanimously support to the extent that it never even needed to be spoken bar when Boxy announced it on Talk:A/VD. But it isn't that simple because it isn't hard to just use "credit" as a way of saying sorry, or simply saying we were wrong. And Nubis was already demoted by this point so any sort of corrective action was futile. And there's always the fact that it all happened under our noses and no one managed to pick it up. You see now why I don't take it lightly? Anyways, it's been done, let's move on. I think I've managed to prove (through my own poor form) that this isn't going to go anywhere despite Iscariot's claims. I'm ready to pass this by. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 12:27, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Ah well, it's your problem now, so good luck with dealing with his stupidity. Iscariot is more reasonable than you think. The case wasn't disputed because all involved parties accepted and he has absolutely no authority over the outcome over the case unless an arbitrator sanctions him with it, which one one will. Don't worry, but thanks for the concern. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 13:47, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

I'm thinking of running

for sysop, but wanted some input. Do you think I'm qualified for the position? With Ross and Rorybob's recent applications, is it too early to run?

Here is my resume, if you're interested in contribution background (over 4000 edits). Specifically, I was the driving force behind completing the BIC (as documented here), and partially behind the recent revival in demerging locations pages (as evidenced in the prior link, as well as the previous three month's A/SD records). I often follow A/SD, A/PT, and A/MR, although as a regular user I am unable to really do anything on those pages. So far as I can tell, I have made no enemies, and am polite and professional in my appearance.

So, what do you think? Am I ready?

Thank you in advance,

--~ Red Hawk One Talk | space for lease 23:37, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Other applicants do not matter when it comes to running. We all should be looking at your contributions anyway, not basing it off of how many people we have oping. What's probably going to be your biggest downfall is you aren't seen enough, and we don't know how you'd react in a hostile environment, since you've had no enemies. We also don't know how you'd react and how active you'd be in A/VB and A/M. Stuff like that.-- SA 23:58, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

If you remember during the case, you complained about me editing your shit and dealing with you in an admin-y way. I said I would not if you left my shit alone. Why the fuck are you trying to antagonize me again?-- SA 19:56, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
Why are you always taking it so personal, and why always so fucking aggressive? Take a chill pill! I find it annoying, because it is in fact not obvious, and I could care less who's using his signature is behind it (behind nothing). Leaving out the bold part is one thing, but no motivation, just a sig is too much. Just because it's obvious for you, doesn't mean it's that for everyone.--Umbrella-White.pngThadeous OakleyUmbrella-White.png 20:51, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
Obvious or not, you should not have been the one to do it. You almost fucked me over on A/VB. You fucked up my talk page and would not heed my multiple requests for you to stay away. You didn't even attempt to settle everything on A/A. You may not be breaking any part of the arbitration ruling specifically (Although I think you are), but you're definitely breaking the spirit of it. Which is for us to just leave each other alone for the most part. I have done nothing with anything you've done or said sinc eI came back. You should be doing the same, and leaving the action up to someone else. That way, you know, you don't even have a chance of getting in trouble over that case. That's why this is personal, because after all this time you go and start on my edits, when clearly we should still be leaving each other alone.-- SA 21:05, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
Meh, I'm pretty much pass that entire A/A mess, though I respect it if you aren't yet. I do mean it serious when I said that strike was out of annoyance, not out of a personal vendetta. --Umbrella-White.pngThadeous OakleyUmbrella-White.png 00:23, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

I dug up the deletion schedule, the related discussion, and the A/D cases referred to therein. In all cases, the pages were titled identically to usernames or abbreviations thereof and pointed directly to user pages. By contrast, as there is no user page directly corresponding to the page title, and as the schedule refers specifically to user pages, I believe this case is sufficiently different to warrant being listed on A/D so as to gain the benefit of more consensus as to the interpretation of said schedule. I'm off duty, just finished a required shift. And I think I've been rather calm. But sure, if everything I say and do here is wrong, then so be it. I bear no hatred towards you, just sadness at your hostility. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by RaidenMachina (talkcontribs) 08:11, 12 November 2009 (UTC).

The hostility you are getting comes from the fact that if you had read Developing Suggestions, you would have realized two important things.
  1. Changes to the way AP works is generally a bad idea. Period.
  2. You should ALWAYS put your suggestion in the Developing Suggestions area before it goes to vote.
Since you ignored both of those--which should be apparent if you read the top couple sections on DevSug--AND you ignored the formatting required for suggestions in the voting area, you are encountering hostility. You can freely shrink or enlarge (uglyness warning) images by appending a pipe and then a desired width in pixels. For example, [[Image:Cat3uw.gif|100px]] doubles that image's size from its default 50x50 px to 100x100. --Bob Boberton TF / DW Littlemudkipsig.gif 00:13, 14 November 2009 (BST)

Project Mentor

Hello there DDR. I'm fairly new to UD and more so to the wiki. However, I have an interest in contributing. My primary interest at the moment is adding fiction to some of the more boring (read: blank) building descriptions. This may at some point expand in a nonfiction direction, but I see that there are many rules, not all of which I'm fully grasping (mainly formatting). So, if Project Mentor is still on going, I'd like having somewhere to go for guidance. I freely admit to be really new; however, I like to think (possibly incorrectly) that I'm not a total moron. --Captdrett 02:39, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

If you haven't started blanking shit on purpose or being a dick for the hell of it then you're not a moron. Anyway, I'll say it for him, he'll gladly help you out with anything you might need help with, though he is rather busy lately. And if he decides to be a dick and refuse to help you, I'll verbally bitch slap him and then help you myself if desired. :D -- SA 02:56, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
Did someone say an interest in making stubs more interesting? Why head right on over to ALiM and get de-stubizing goodsir boulevard! xoxo 08:23, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Hey! Well, basically, we have a couple of documents about how to write a more uniform building history/description here and (to a lesser extent) here, but generally a more simplified mentality to keep is:

  • Be exciting, it doesn't have to be based on truth, you can make up names and dates and events which led to the location's creation or importance.
  • Write like you would if you were writing an encyclopaedic article for Wikipedia or something; ie, neutral point-of-view etc.
  • Try not to promote your group or character in it unless it's based off some in-game truth, or you might run into some enemies who want their name alongside yours :/
  • Seriously, have fun. If you want to have some examples of how far you can push the 'non-serious' aspect of the content, check out ALiM and some of the location descriptions they've written. They tend to enjoy pushing the boundaries a bit.

And remember that when you're doing this, as long as you mean well, you won't get into any trouble. The worst that will happen is someone will just change your wording or sentences around so they don't offend or anything.

Good luck! --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 11:19, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Category: Groups

I commented about this on SAs talk page. And you mentioned you might know something about fixing it. When you get a chance can you elaborate either here, SAs page, or mine? Thanks!--GANG Giles Sednik CAPD 16:49, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

Heya. I fixed Category:Groups so it only had proper categories and not group's own categories, but upon looking at SA's talk that was never the problem... If you are wondering about why the subcategories don't show alphabetically, it is because of the template Template:subcat which can prioritise the category over the ones done manually. Long story, don't know how it works but that's just what it does I guess. As for subcategories disappearing, I don't know what you mean. When I remove Category:Groups from a page and replace it with Category:Survivor Groups or Category:Zombie Groups then it always appears in the latter. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 21:57, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
Excellent. Thank you for fixing category groups. I see that it doesn't require magic sysop buttons to do so I fixed a few other groups, as well. 1,2,3,4.
So I understand now how categorizing is supposed to work. Yet there is this one nagging issue of bringing a category out of one subcategory into a larger category. For example, try adding Category:Noise_Abatement_Societies to Category:Groups. I'm not saying it necessarily belongs there (though there is an argument to be made). In theory all you have to do is remove the zombie groups category and add the groups category. But look how it stubbornly doesn't appear in Template:subcat under Category:Groups. Perhaps a further examining of subcat is in order. Anyways thanks for your help and experience, as usual.--GANG Giles Sednik CAPD 16:14, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
But it appears as it is supposed to appear: not at the start like Template:subcat is supposed to do, but rather alphabetically with all the other groups. Speaking of which, I didn't notice there were so many other groups in Category:Groups. Might have to clean them up soon. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 22:15, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

In my attempts to give the categories some semblance of structure and sense, the idea would be to remove any groups pages in the category and have them appear only in their specific sub-groups. Category:Groups would then mostly be a listing of these different subgroup categories with almost no articles.

You can then avoid all the nonsense with subcat and the wiki's poor sorting as well and making things easier to search. -- User:The Rooster RoosterDragon User talk:The Rooster 16:50, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Lurker time. A/A

I noticed this particular line on the A/AG page (under "How to Arbitrate"):

4. Between them, the involved users choose an arbitrator

  • The people in the case can choose any user of the wiki, be them listed in the Current Arbitrators list or not.
  • You can see how an arbitrator has conducted their previous cases at Category:Arbitration Cases.
  • If no arbitrator is agreed upon, one will be chosen by the administration team.

There is still no timeline of any kind (or precedent that I know of) as far as when the administration team chooses an arbitrator. But there does appear to be something on the wiki addressing it, if a little vague. --Maverick Talk - OBR Praise Knowledge! 404 09:02, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

But in fact, the listing of subcategories was merely a result of the wiki doing what the wiki does to categories. Buahahah. *slaps forehead*. Okay kewl. I've read it plenty before, and every time I, as well as the rest of the community, feels compelled that you actually wrote that bile under the assumption that you could have just "gotten in" without having done any work or input into the wiki for so long. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 23:09, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
Which, in retrospect, would make my point even more understandable: not only would you have no idea of what it's like to be a wiki op, but you also have most likely forgotten what it's like to be involved in hard work with the wiki, at all. Your "reasons" not to ask for promotion were null and void just a few months ago, after the A/RE purge of sysops there was a 3 month block where Boxy, Cyberbob and I were the only active ops, and we needed all the help we could get, hence why we brought SA back and Ross, but the point is, you wouldn't have even been present enough to notice we needed ops, let alone consider yourself for the job. You have such a misguided and dated opinion on Administration in regards to yourself and others that it haunts me. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 23:14, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Depends on how you see it. We have, say, 5 unused images every day we have to delete. Every day. 90% as useless and unused as the next. When sysops have such a job for a couple of years, they start to ignore such obligatory actions such as checking "what links here", especially when it isn't in the required criteria for deletion. --DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION-- 13:31, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

Do I vote on cases I bring (such as with User:Cipherace), or stay out of it? Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but I don't really deal with this stuff that often.--~ Red Hawk One Talk | space for lease 04:16, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

You can warn a user from a case that you bring yourself, yes, and if you are so inclined you can vote on it too. DANCEDANCEREVOLUTION (TALK | CONTRIBS) 04:18, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
TA-DAH! The reason he should have never been promoted spelled out clearly. A user has three contributions, all of which you believe to be vandalism enough to create a case about. The idiot should have been perma banned before you even made the case and a note of your actions added directly to the page with the evidence. -- To know the face of God is to know madness....Praise knowledge! Mischief! Mayhem! The Rogues Gallery!. <== DDR Approved Editor 04:20, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
Good thing he didn't though - the edits are obviously a newbie's mistakes. You can see from the diffs that he is in fact making "actual" edits, it's just that somehow he managed to wipe a heap of stuff from the pages at the same time. Cyberbob  Talk  04:26, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

Criteria 7 by proxy

After listening to some of the input, I feel that not only my request, but the entire criteria could use with some rewording. I'm thinking of reworing my request to expand the current criteria to include blankings, while ignoring templates and pages with inclusions. Do you have any input on this?

Also, should I let the current request run its course, or take it down and file the updated version sooner?--~ Red Hawk One Talk | space for lease 03:05, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

I don't think blankings are necessarily the best idea, because imo the criterea of proxy crit 7's should require absolute confirmation that they want it deleted, not just wiping it. Honestly, I think it was fine the way it was but in your interests I would just withdraw it and replace it with an amended version. -- 06:16, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

True, and although Conroy seems fairly desperate to get it to pass, they'll have a hard time getting it through the Senate. Linkthewindow  Talk  00:19, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
I don't actually know anything about this one, I haven't bothered since the last time they tried this, the brutal slaying of it gave me hope for years to come >=D -- 00:23, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
I don't know much about the original, but this one is pretty bad. I'll link to the blacklist, (it's on Wikileaks,) but Kevan would be slapped with an $11,000 fine (if the server was in Australia.) Linkthewindow  Talk  00:25, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
I see. The first one was hugely unworkable. It would have cut all internet speed of all ISPs by a third and would cost more to run. Just random shit like that. It got huge coverage and wa a massive talking point until they tyried to implement it and Telstra literally just said no, then all other ISPs stood behind telstra and backed it up. Ily telstra. -- 00:41, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
I remember it now. Conroy's ignored the ISP's concerns and has basically said "fuck you, I'll implement it anyway." Linkthewindow  Talk  01:59, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

oh and whats the number of talk page spam posts before its vandy? xoxo 09:23, 25 December 2009 (UTC)

1. lol. 2. It sort of depends on the purpose. For example, users have been "not warned" because they spammed talk pages, but only to a certain group, ie. group pages, or only sysops, etc. Whilst others spam crap randomly and get warned for it. Depends on the context. If you are asking because of the guy who has been making christmas messages, I honestly don't think it'll fly as vandalism, he's just sending christmas spirit. =D aweeeesome -- 09:48, 25 December 2009 (UTC)
