[edit] Travelogue

visit my user page at goat girl aka Lewin

As a member of the ATO, i have taken up the cause, and am joining in the great field research work being done by our members. This takes the form of logging suburbs we have travelled through for the benefit of our fellow travellers. My travels begin in north east Malton, in the suburb of Dulston. So without further ado..

[edit] Week 1 in Dulston

After leaving my 'birthplace' of Santlerville, and fond memories of beatbox kids and dribbling beavers behind me, i ventured north, towards Dulston. On my way i checked in with several local groups and asked them what was going on. Also, as every good traveller does, i researched the suburb's wiki. I must now say that both of these methods of research proved to be flawed due to the fluid nature of the Dulston citizens, and in particular their barricade policy, which afforded me some trouble in my initial expedition. The basic problem seemed to me to be an unhealthy fear of attack from zombie groups. This resulted in me finding every building in the suburb overbarricaded. On my first day i only just managed to find an entry point in the form of a railway station, and furthermore, with my last action point! After conversing with several players and members of the ATO i have come to believe that this may have something to do with zombie problems in the past, although i shall say no more here, as i know no facts. I can however, show you what i was dealing with in terms of personalities during my initial time in Dulston.

27.50 MHz: "Fight or flee!" (9 hours and 22 minutes ago)

27.50 MHz: "RESIST! HUMANITY DEMANDS IT!" (7 hours and 34 minutes ago)

27.50 MHz: "John Freeman who was Gordon Freemans brother" (4 hours and 53 minutes ago)

27.50 MHz: "BRAINSTOCK ARE GEEK FACISTS" (4 hours and 47 minutes ago)

27.50 MHz: "STOP KILLING INNOCENTS WITH YOUR ..." *static* "...ARSE LIST" (4 hours and 46 minutes ago)

27.50 MHz: "ANY PKER CAN REPORT A RETALIATION S" (4 hours and 46 minutes ago)

27.50 MHz: "AND GET GENUINE SURVIVOR LISTED" (4 hours and 46 minutes ago)

27.50 MHz: "..." *static* "... THE BRAINSTOCK. THEY HAD BRAINS REMOVED IN THE 1ST WAVE" (4 hours and 45 minutes ago)

27.50 MHz: "Oh, calm down, people. Too much of the radio broadcasting" (3 hours and 37 minutes ago)

27.50 MHz: "is panic-stricken around here. Just be vigilant and calm," (3 hours and 37 minutes ago)

27.50 MHz: "and we will most likely be fine. Tarumigan out." (3 hours and 37 minutes ago)

27.50 MHz: "Also, in other news, #1 OSU defeated Michigan State 24-17." (3 hours and 32 minutes ago)

27.50 MHz: "GO OSU! GO OSU! Go Buckeyes!" (3 hours and 32 minutes ago)

27.50 MHz: "Calm down? The whole game is about the desperation and" (2 hours and 55 minutes ago)

27.50 MHz: "drama of a zombie epidemic. What we need is more alarmists!" (2 hours and 54 minutes ago)

27.50 MHz: "Keep an eye on Michaud Fire Stat. 2 zeds got in. Rez'd 1 K 1" (44 minutes ago)

What is to be gathered from this lively banter? Many, many things. First of all i should tell you that i haven't managed to find anything like a standard frequency for the suburb, check groups' wikis for information on personal frequencies. What i have consistently found however, is that citizens tend to be rather dramatic as to the zombie problems at hand. This could well have led to the aforementioned overbarricading, and also the rather entertaining occurance of twenty or so survivors fleeing a building because of the presence of a lone zombie inside. This radio braodcast also demonstrates that there are sane and logical people in Dulston, some of whom clearly passionate for OSU.

'After several days spent living in Dulston, the following is to be said:'

Dulston is a great place for beginners, there is a low zed count, and even though it can sometimes be hard to find and entry point, it is more often than not safe to sleep outside. I have done this twice to prove my point.

Dulston is great for Medics, there are several accessable hospitals, and a reasonable number of those sleeping in the streets have minor cuts and bruises from passing zombies. Of all the zeds i have encountered there, all seem to be low level and unable to inflict meaningful damage. If sleeping on the street expect to wake up with 10 less HP. Given the great amount of survivors there it will take not time to be healed and you'll be fighting fit. This is naturally a bonus for medics once more. As a low level medic, i can myself testify to the grateful and kind nature of Dulstonians:

Jason Kevins said "Many thanks goat girl :)" (4 hours and 45 minutes ago)

Alarmist though they may be, the people of Dulston are the nicest bunch you could wish for. It really is a dream suburb. Up until now i have encountered NO PKers, and AT LEAST 70% OF DULSTON IS POWERED AND RADIO EQUIPPED.

Recommendations after week 1

Get Free Running! Free Running is a necessity in this suburb. The plethora of extremely heavily barricaded buildings means you'll need it to do anything or get anywhere. If you're thinking of coming here as a low level character, it is advisable to spend your experience on Free Running first. Also, be prepared to spend your AP searching and healing, if you're looking for battle, go elsewhere.

[edit] Dulston Cont.

Hey, goat girl is back after almost another week of fun in the great suburb of Dulston and has become rather more informed. I have time and time again confirmed the appreciative and genuine natures of the citizens of dulston:

Jason Kevins said "Many thanks goat girl :)" (4 hours and 45 minutes ago)

Appreciation of my powers of healing is appreciated back, as is comment on my travelogue:

Arrowsmith said "*pulls out dartgun. Shoots Deathwire between the eyes. Sticks out tongue." (7 hours and 4 minutes ago)

Orophin Minyatur said "Btw goat girl, interesting travel logs :D" (6 hours and 53 minutes ago)

Arrowsmith said "*hides an industrial-grade bubble-machine somewhere in the room. No one can find it." (6 hours and 7 minutes ago)

I must say this all makes me very happy, although this is a little self indulgent and it's time i got back to something useful.

[edit] Barricades, Sacred Gound and Life After Death (Dulston)

After further research and redirecting by helpful citizens i have discovered the root of Dulston's paranoia and general fear of everything groaning and hungering for brains. This, i have dicovered, is not unknown to many citizens of Dulston. I shall quote directly:

This is a view not shared by the Dulston Alliance which renounced the Sacred Ground Policy on May 19th 2006 when the zombie group, Dead Rain, used this policy against local survivors by hiding their members at the cemetery. The zombies then used the cemetery as a staging ground from which they launched a series of assaults against survivors living in the northeast corner of Dulston. This event resulted in the loss of both the Trood and Beale Buildings. Ever since that dark day the SGP has been considered "not worth a damn".

This explains, first of all, the general desire to kill all zombies and paranoia of trickery and attack by the zeds, and secondly it explains the total disregard of sacred ground policy and barricading policy by Dulston citizens and the Dulston Alliance.

You are standing outside St Barbara's Church, a large red-brick building with an arched entrance. The building has been very strongly barricaded.

At the time this was written however, the sacred ground policy was being openly supported by the Alliance's wiki. They are definately a great group however, and i invite you to check them out at the Dulston Alliance The radio frequence 26.36MHz belongs to them, they have the best intentions and the most honourable of work and should be treated accordingly. Do not abuse this frequency and feel safe in trusting what you hear on it.

Still on revive points, Duport Avenue is the place to go to. All other listed revive points are slaughterhouses for zeds. Even the Wiki instructs zombies hopeful of a revive to look elsewhere. Even so, i would not be optimistic about a quick revival anywhere in this suburb. The last confirmed report of a successful revive took place on the 25th of July 2007. This may change, and so is only valid until the point at which this was written. A confirmed revive means either i have seen a screenshot, have been informed by someone that they have been revived, or it has been listed online, for example on Wiki:

July 25th, 2007 - This RP is still functioning despite the increase in zombie activity in Dulston. I was revived within the hour of my request. St Anacletus's Hospital also functioning with lights on and cades at VSB.

OK, so now the real test. Recently Anne General Hospital was subject to attack by a group of zombies, during which i was killed. I made a snap decision to blend in with the attackers, killing two survivors who did not have any group affiliation, and moving out into the street (Sorry if it was you). Now the hard part. I had established myself as a zombie, severely annoyed several citizens, and was on the loose. My challenge was to be revived without leaving Dulston. I was going undercover, for lack of a more emotive description, in order to confirm or disprove my findings about Dulston's revivification possibilities. Up until now i have been killed every day, most recently standing outside an overbarricaded St Barbara's Church. After standing up i was attacked within 15 seconds. Credit must go to the Dulston Alliance and their absolute anti-zombie policy. I am curious, however, to discover just how fallen survivors are revived after a zombie attack. I wish to discover this in the next week, through talk with Alliance members and a trip across Dulston to visit Duport Avenue, and prove to all (myself most of all) that a revive point is still actively maintained by the citizens of Dulston. So, people, until then, here is my advice:

Recommendations after week 2

Short and sweet this week guys, but from the heart.

GET FREE-RUNNING!

and if you are a zombie and want to live?

STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM DULSTON!!!

haha. Till next time people!

IT NEVER ENDS!
This user is frustrated by the sheer amount of stupidity and crap on the wiki.

[edit] The Revival

I JUST GOT REVIVED IN DULSTON, ON THE 30th OF OCTOBER AT 5:58!

Since your last turn:

Tal Ridmen extracted a DNA sample from you. (5 minutes ago)

Tal Ridmen revivified you with a NecroTech syringe. (5 minutes ago)

Duport Avenue is the place to be everyone. It's the place to be.

After my revive i have moved straight into St Anacletus's Hospital where i am collecting medical supplies and an annoying amount of newspapers. I have healed a citizen and installed a generator and am one of 23 citizens taking refuge here.

I can now confidently say, that despite my initial scepticism, Dulston, in particular Duport Av. is a revive friendly suburb.

[edit] Week 3 in Dulston

Hello again everybody, Lewin here. How interesting the past few days have been. All my assumptions about Dulston have flown out the window. DULLston has become FREAKING COMPLEX AMAZING ZOMBIE BATTLE ZONEston. Perhaps not so extreme, but definately something in that direction. Buildings have fallen, survivors slaughtered, and the suburb had become a battle ground where every man must fight for himself.

28.01 MHz: "Is anyone out there?" (4 hours and 5 minutes ago)

28.01 MHz: "They've broken thorugh!" (4 hours and 4 minutes ago)

28.01 MHz: "wwell, I guess it sux to be you then" (3 hours and 43 minutes ago)

During the first few days of this week, which i spent travelling the streets armed with FAKs, a considerable increase in the number of lone zombies was noted. Reports of PKing increased, as did the work of the Flat Earth group, and radio murmerings appeared regarding some sort of revolution...

The dreaded words You are dead. have appeared on many screens. Most recently several building in the far NE corner have fallen to zeds, and survivors are being killed in their tens.

DarkSideoftheBoon said "1zed 1e!" (9 hours and 38 minutes ago)

You heard a loud and distant groaning 2 blocks to the west and 4 blocks to the south. (9 hours and 14 minutes ago)

A flare was fired 3 blocks to the west and 5 blocks to the south. (8 hours and 44 minutes ago)

You heard a low groaning 1 block to the east. (7 hours and 3 minutes ago)

A zombie brought down the last of the barricades. (6 hours and 57 minutes ago)

You heard a distant groaning 3 blocks to the east and 1 block to the south. (3 hours and 28 minutes ago)

You heard a loud and low groaning from somewhere nearby. (2 hours and 43 minutes ago)

You are dead.

These disturbing messages greeted me from my monitor several times during the week. In that time the largest concentration of zombies i noted was in the far NE corner and a few blocks north of the mall. Spicer Row Police Department and the Beale Building have both been levelled, and at last sight were housing 13 zombies, although this was 2 days ago. Survivors with free running can also no longer be certain of safety, as many buildings have been ruined. I discovered this first hand

You lose your footing on the ruined building, and drop to the street.

In this time of trouble PKing has also increased, although successful communication amongst honourable survivors has led to swift justice being dealt.

Arrowsmith said "Understand, this is a place of healing. I don't tolerate any killing here. If I were you, I'd pay http://z9.invisionfree.com/Dulston_Alliance a visit, too. Mobius187 and the rest of the gang have been talking you over--you should defend yourself." (1 second ago)

Pete Marsh said "Dante, you're a bad liar, telling people yer no pker and you with a bounty of 13: http://ud-malton.info/rg/i/292888 But fear not! In the name of the Flat Earth, I'll drop that to 12, mochyn! :D" (7 minutes ago) Pete Marsh killed Dante Noctis. (7 minutes ago)

On the lighter side of happenings, i can recommend frequency 28.01 for some good solid entertainment. The station reminds me of the crap we used to get on the air back in the good old days in Santlerville.

Flag Smasher said "I spent some time undead too, right outside St. Anne's hospital. Some zombies broke inside, so I went in and said MRH until my throat dried up, but people just kept whacking me with axes anyway. It must be frustrating to be a zombie all the time." (7 hours and 41 minutes ago)

28.01 MHz: "Helloooo Malton! This is a WPKU broadcast." (7 hours and 13 minutes ago)

28.01 MHz: "I'm your host, the ninja of the mike, the assassin of the" (7 hours and 13 minutes ago)

28.01 MHz: "airwaves, and the shinobi of the radio band. Today we have" (7 hours and 12 minutes ago)

28.01 MHz: "a message for one Uncle Zeddie of Radio Survivor." (7 hours and 12 minutes ago)

28.01 MHz: "*clears throat* *does his PKer voice*" (7 hours and 12 minutes ago)

28.01 MHz: "Zeddie... Oh Zeddie... We're comin' for ya..." (7 hours and 11 minutes ago)

28.01 MHz: "Thank you for listening! This has been a WPKU broadcast." (7 hours and 11 minutes ago)

Kratos Nemesis broadcast "there is a zombie outside.. i hit him with a fire axe 3 time" from here, on 28.01 MHz. (5 hours and 22 minutes ago)

Anyone notice how much the poor zeds waiting for revives get picked on? During this time, communications between the Dulston Alliance and the ATO have also increased. These people are honest, just and decent people. Travellers, help them out if you get the chance.

Week 3 Verdict:

Dulston has just got a whole lot more interesting. The number of zeds has increased, and with it everything else. Get there and help out if you can. Repairs and Barricades are called for. On the 3rd, Dulston was upgraded to moderate danger. From what i have seen it should still be there. It has also become difficult not getting killed whilst waiting for revives, by zealous survivors and other zeds alike. I have experienced both.

Thank you for reading, fellow travellers, and i'll see you in Dulston --Lewin 06:06, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The First Month in Review

Hello fellow travellers. Well, it's been a month now and it's time for me to write my monthly review of the Suburb. Firstly however, there are a few things to add on the happenings in the last week.

First and foremost is the signing of a non-aggression pact between the Dulston Alliance and the Allied Travellers Organisation. These two groups now co-operate peacefully and work together towards the common good of the north east of Malton. On that same note, the ATO has established a permanant headquarters in Dulston. We now operate out of the Beale Building, a necrotech facility in the north of the suburb, and we hope to increase the efficiency of the revive point there. Throughout the week, efforts of all survivor groups, including myself and the available ATO memebers, have been directed to fighting the varioius zombie groups in the NE corner of the suburb. The infected swarm, more commonly known and operating as the defective swarm, have seen their collective efforts to take Dulston thwarted by the stalwart defence of various survivor groups. From the 9th of November it became the goal of myself and DDR to take the Beale Building, our selected headquarters. Although we managed to kill several zombies accross this period, the real credit for clearing out much of the north side of the suburb must go to Flustered Fred and his Flustered Bretheren, who have their HQ just two blocks west of our own and are another valuable member of the Dulston alliance.

Now to the final review of Dulston, the day of judgement, the weighing of good against bad, the day when Santa checks his list to see if Dulston's been naughty or nice... (drumroll)

Dulston is a suburb very easy to categorize, and that's a trap many fall into, indeed as i did in my first weeks here. At first sight a paranoid and overbarricaded suburb, with little excitement or purpose. When one spends time in Dulston, one gets to know it rather better than that. True, it's not the Santlerville or Pimbank of which other travellers speak, where every day is a titanic battle for every resource building and you're more likely than not to wake up undead, but it's organised, goal-oriented and most important of all, fun. Having stayed in Dulston for such a long period i saw past my initial judgements. Groups structures and organisation became clearer to me and i started to communicate with the DA, the guardians of Dulston. The groups in the suburb of Malton are on the whole the most organised collection of survivors that i have encountered. As the dynamic of the suburb changes, and threats are present, the atmosphere of Dulston changes. Entry points seemed to open up before me and survivor groups sprung into action in carefully planned counter-incursion operations. There is a great sense of patriotism in Dulston, and it is extremely difficult not to get caught up it. It is now quite hard for me to say anything bad about the suburb any more. So as i help clear out the last pockets of zombies in the far NE of Dulston, i would like to thank everyone in Dulston who has been so kind to me and all of the people who have given me material for the travelogue. Finally i would like to invite all travellers to visit Dulston, and to stay a while, and see what the suburb has to offer. As for my future i plan to document Pescodside, but that shall have to wait. For the moment i am committed to the protection of the NE corner of Dulston and the establishment and running of the ATO revive point. I guess that means there won't be much travelling to speak of in the next weeks, nor much action to report. Thank you, travellers, for reading my work and i hope to see you in Dulston. If you'd like me to visit your NE suburb, just drop me a line on the talk page and tell me your story. --Lewin 23:02, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
