[edit] What are Imperial Protectorates?

An Imperial Protectorate is any suburb that, while not directly controlled by the forces of the Imperium which is signified by the deployment of Imperial Guard troops, Adeptus Mechanicus agents, and the forces of the Ecclesiarchy, but rather a suburb where at least half the survivor groups within are allies of the Imperium and as such enjoy the same rights, privileges, and protections of those directly under Imperial control. Often a protectorate if it is deemed vital to the Imperium may in fact be brought under Imperial control but if not then it will be left to its own devices, entrusted to uphold the Imperium and to be protected by the Adeptus Astartes, Adeptus Sororitas, and the Inquisition as they need and request such aid and protection. Any group who is either an Ally of the Imperium or a group in good standing with the Imperium in a protectorate may request the aid of the Imperium, this does not mean we will involve our forces in strife between survivor groups.

To emphasize, Protectorate status is granted to suburbs not groups. We do not consider our allies under our protection but rather our partners in reclaiming Malton from the hordes that infest it. We consider territory under our protection or control, but this is more that our forces are active in the particular territory, the degree of that activity is dependent on if we have control as is defined above or have substantial interests and allies in that area.

The other circumstance where the Imperium may declare a suburb a protectorate is if the survivor population in said suburb is so thoroughly ravaged by mutant hordes that, in the interests of the Imperium and Humanity, Command declares such a suburb under our protection. If this is the case the suburb in question remains a Protectorate in perpetuity. Once the Imperium declares its protection over anything it does not withdraw such protection.

[edit] How to Become an Ally

Any survivor group may become an Ally of the Imperium. To do so they must petition Imperial Command to form such an alliance with the Imperium. Once a group becomes an Ally of the Imperium they may request assistance from the Imperium in the form of our more aggressive and mobile Agencies or that their suburb, if they feel it necessary and the Imperium has the resources, be brought under Imperial control by deployment of more permanent forces. In exchange for such an alliance any Ally must remain in regular communication with the Imperium through Imperial Command in some fashion or another and take no action that would cause harm to the Imperium. Furthermore, as the Imperium will grant aid if it is able, if the Ally is likewise able to do so then it would be greatly appreciated if the Imperium is in serious danger to assist in some fashion or another for the Imperium.
