Christmas Tree Dead Pool II

CLOSED

As of 16:00 May 7 2007, we have a winner.

The Countdown

Kevan was nice enough to provide an automatically updated page for this. Yay!

The Contest

Yup, this is a just what is says it is. The Game Statistics page shows the declining number of Christmas Trees left standing in the game, and the only real question is, when will the count reach zero?

Oh no..."15:00, 07/05/07 --- 0 trees"...put them back! Put them back!--Thegreathal 17:05, 7 May 2007 (BST)

Why?

The original Christmas Tree Dead Pool filled up much faster than I expected. It also took more work to administrate than expected, and I'm not really happy with the betting scheme. So this is the "New Improved" version that will allow more people to play, and is a bit trickier to win. The original Christmas Tree Dead Pool still stands and will be honored - this is a new "sister contest" that allows wider participation and should be even more fun!

Is This Another Joke?

Of course it is. Its also a real contest with a real prize. It may also just be the first second ever UDwiki community event that isn't 100% virtual.

The Prize

The prize for the winner of the UDWiki Christmas Tree Dead Pool II is (as with the original) one hand crafted UD Themed Christmas Tree ornament made by yours truely. It might just be a gory rubber eyeball hanging from a piece of string with a scribbled note in marker, or it might be a master crafted trophy piece of fimo-clay and chicken bone artistry- if you win and don't like it, sue me. I'm a pretty good sculptor and modeler, with a sick sense of humor (obviously) so chances are it is gonna be "something special", and will be just as nice as the ornament for the original Christmas Tree Dead Pool. I will pay shipping costs inside the Continental USA; overseas winners might have to settle for a "virtual" ornament, depending on shipping costs, or maybe we can get donations to defray the expense.

Of course, you also get bragging rights. Probably a template or something for your page too. Whatever, its (still) just a stupid game.  ;)

The Rules

Each contestant can select the single day on which they think the last Christmas Tree will vanish from Malton. If you have an entry in the original Christmas Tree Dead Pool, this day may not overlap that entry- I don't want one person winning both contests!

The winner will be decided if and when the above page linked to ever indicates that the Christmas Tree population has dropped below zero, even if it subsequently goes back above zero at a later time.

As days pass by, I will "strike out" expired entires. If your entry gets struck out, you may (and should!) make another entry. Thus, it may pay well to pick a "short date" and then re-register after that passes. Or to hold of on placing an entry until you can make a sound guess. Or whatever. Your guess is as good as mine! The idea is that somebody really should win this thing, despite the large range of dates to pick from.

It is possible that there are people out there who still have Christmas Trees in their inventories, who could set them up when the count gets low. That's OK. If they manage to stop the count from ever indicating zero trees, more power to them. It is also entirely possible that people will attempt to kill / defend Christmas Trees in order to win this pool. That's OK. In fact, it is ENCOURAGED. If this pool incites a full blown Christmas Tree WAR, I will have done my job all to well...

Any question / debates / requests for adjudications of these rules should be directed to Talk:Christmas Tree Dead Pool II. But come on folks, its really pretty simple, and this ain't the Publishers Clearinghouse prize we are talking about. Keep it civil. And yes, my rulings will be final- its my idea, and my prize.

As it came up through discussion and won't affect any current entries, I've decided that "never" is no longer a valid entry. You must pick an actual date. --Seb_Wiers Skull n syringes.gif VeM 17:37, 29 April 2007 (BST)

One final (obvious) rule- don't fuck around with editing these rules and stuff, or the pool list. Good faith edits only, no vandalism. Cheating will be considered vandalism and will be reported. I'm not gonna do as much administration work on this one, but shenanigans will still be easy to spot. Don't yah love wiki technology?

How to Enter

Simply enter your signature next to the appropriate date on the list below. That's it! But make sure you follow the rules above.

Entrants may, if they wish, display the following template on their user page. Or steal the code, make their own version, and spam it around. Whatever.

December 2007

Note- if the contest runs this long, I'm worried about whether Christmas trees will become available items again; the contest is a bit pointless if they are a renewable resource. If they do become a renewable resource, I may need to change the contest rules so that somebody wins before Christmas 2007. In that case the winner will be the person(s) who have / had entries on the day when the trees reached lowest population previous to December 25 2007. That means there may be multiple (even MANY) winners if this happens. Don't worry about the prizes; I can mass produce ornaments if needed, and have a decent enough job that shipping won't be an issue. --Seb_Wiers Skull n syringes.gif VeM 18:00, 29 April 2007 (BST)

Or, if changes are made to the game (such as the plain old removal of all existing x-mas trees, or the game is shut down while trees still remain) your entry would be the winning one. --Seb_WiersctdpImagine 18:09, 22 April 2007 (BST)
