Description
A three storey derelict hotel that has seen better days. Recently gutted by fire and the remaining toilets are blocked.
History
The first and last venture of Malton's worst businessman Ayeammaso Chitty. Mr Chitty arrived in Malton from Japan in 1952, as a child he'd survived the ravages of war and had been one of the first in his family to leave Japan. On arrival, Mr Chitty promptly opened a bank account at a local bank and rented a room at the plush Gunningham Motel in Quarlesbank. For the first few years he took jobs everywhere in Malton in the hope of living his dream - To be a venture capitalist.
It was the spring of 1957 that he began his first venture - The Chitty Hotel. He'd found a plot of land in Dakerstown which would suffice for his small but luxurious hotel. The hotel proved to be a roaring success in it's formative years and off the back of the profits he was making he decided on a new venture - The Chitty Cinema.
You could say that this is where the "Chit" really hit the fan. This was the end of Mr Chitty's dream as the cinema bankrupted him and the hotel was taken over by liquidators and finally closed to pay off the debts.
Maltonions even nicknamed an area after him - Chitty Walk
