The situation within the city has steadily been degenerating into anarchy. However, Malton's civil servants have strived to maintain a semblance of order and safety within the city. The MFD has assisted the MPD greatly in these matters.

Early in the outbreak, the Malton Fire Department mainly concerned itself with protecting civilians, as opposed to the military and MPD, which have concerned themselves with combating zombies. In addition to extinguishing fires set by looters, the signature red and black firetrucks of the MFD were seen evacuating survivors from areas on the edge of danger zones and distributing supplies to safehouses.

However, as time passed, the firemen of Malton began to take a more active role in the defense of humanity. Men have been seen taking the fight to the zombies with standard city issue fire axes. One notable example of the bravery of the MFD is the story of Reginaldus Plaza Fire Station. Seven firefighters and ten civilians held out against the horde for months before finally being overrun.

The MFD has maintained its pre-outbreak command structure. Many promotions have been made, but the fire department is still a cohesive organization. There is a current, active MFD presence in most suburbs, though locations within the No-Man's-Lands, such as Barrville and Ridleybank have a greatly reduced MFD presence.
