The Malton Forensics Unit is a branch of the Malton Police Department and a core group in the Department of Emergency Management, which has over 400 members!. Historically dedicated to assisting the MPD in protecting the citizens of Malton through crime scene investigation and handling forensic evidence, the MFU has now been largely repurposed to reviving the undead, curing the infected, and tracking the zombies in their area of assignment, as well as fulfilling their traditional function as police scientists when needed.
Membership in the Malton Forensics Unit is no longer restricted to Scientist-class characters only. Civilians and military revivers may apply if they have the starting skill for either of the Scientist classes (i.e., NecroTech Employment or Diagnosis.

[edit] What We Do
The Malton Forensics Unit is a group dedicated to the support and survival of the defenders of Malton. This means that while we see the need sometimes to use force on those persons that embrace their zombie state, our primary aim is to revive slain survivors and bring them back to the world of the living. As a forensics unit we also must be able to scout out the area, find clues to activity, and pave the way for our sister groups to clear the area.
Members of the MFU work primarily out of NT buildings, or nearby safe houses, where the supplies they need to work are available. Duties include managing revivification points (both in the game and the wiki page), DNA-scanning zombies in their assigned area, and making regular reports to the DEM central offices on the activities in their area, including Necronet printouts when available.
All new members receive rigorous survival and tactics training at The Academy before receiving their first assignment.
Understanding our mission begins with understanding the situation. The mathematics of this infectious outbreak are frightening. Each victim becomes a vector (or carrier of the virus - i.e. a flesh eating zombie), and vectors cannot be killed permanently. The only way to remove a zombie is to revive them, and that is slightly trickier than infection. This fact should illustrate how important it is for each individual to maintain a high level of personal security. Citizens who sleep in alleyways put us all at greater risk. Therefore, continued programs of education and information sharing are imperative to the survivor cause.
[edit] Goals and Guidelines
To achieve these short- and long-term goals, the Malton Forensics Unit has set forward the following guidelines for units in the field:
- Support each other: Render whatever assistance or support you can to other DEM personnel in your area. If you are in the same or adjacent suburbs, stay in touch and be ready to help.
- Scouting: Keep an eye on the general zombie population in your area. Report sightings in the appropriate places (wiki, local group forums, DEM sitrep threads, etc).
- Checking for breaches: Check safehouses and TRPs in your area, particularly NecroTech Buildings, to see if they have been breached. This can be a key support function! Alert the tenants and neighbors that there are zombies inside (yes, this makes a difference), erect a minimal barricade, and do what you can to drop the zombies. Always dispose of fallen survivors and enemies before seeking more secure shelter.
- Adjusting barricades: Lower barricades on buildings designated VS safehouses that became overbarricaded, and instruct tenants why they should not overbarricade, providing links to the wiki and the appropriate barricade plan if applicable. Raise barricades on buildings where they have been dropped, with VS safehouses getting priority.
- Respect Sacred Ground: We support the Sacred Ground Policy, and members must consider cemetaries functional Revivification Points. While it is still recommended to only revive those that have placed a revive request, zombies on these locations should not be attacked.
- Community service announcements: When visiting highly populated safe houses and NecroTech buildings (containing survivors), let them know about any forums or wiki pages specific to that location or suburb, report any unusual zombie activity or numbers in the immediate area, remind them of the appropriate barricade level for that building, etc. Make sure to let them know the MFU is providing the helpful information and urge Scientists to report in.
- Ladies and Gentlemen, The Malton Forensics Unit would like to encourage all individuals with scientific training to report in and join the MFU.
- Hi, and welcome back to the world of life. If you could use some guidance, the Malton Forensics Unit's doors are always open.
- DO NOT OVER-BARRICADE! Citizens that are unable to find safe places to sleep will be turned into more zombies - which then have to be revived. Save your allies and reduce your enemies by following established barricade plans.
- Please DO NOT sleep in a VS resource building if you have the Free Running skill, just to save the AP to move into an EH building. You are putting the lives of the weaker survivors at risk by presenting the building as a more tempting target.
- The MFU would like to remind the citizens of Malton that we must work together for our survival. Please spread useful information when you have it. Spray cans can alert survivors to safehouses or extremely barricaded buildings.
- Observe the Sacred Ground Policy. The Sacred Ground Policy is a movement to convert ALL Cemeteries in Malton to Revive Points. This will provide revive points in every Suburb that do not require any notification.
- Spread the word! Tell others what you know. Use an action to communicate important information when you have one to spare.
- Be safe! Calculate your movements, plan for obstacles and combat. Don't be caught without a safe place to hide! http://redrum.soul-fantasy.net/map.php
- Tag buildings: NecroTech Buildings should have some sort of tag informing people of our group. Other buildings can be tagged with useful information (barricade level, location of closest revive point, etc) and just sign the tag -MFU. You can also just tag the TinyURL for this wiki page, http://tinyurl.com/ykukwy. Because of the brevity needed for spraypainted messages, the Malton Forensics Unit advises some of the following messages and reminders.
- Can you handle a needle? Join the MFU!
- Join the MFU http://tinyurl.com/ykukwy
- DON'T OVER BARRICADE. People get trapped outside.
- Check your maps before exploring. Don't be Dead.
- Been bitten? Don't die indoors. Warn others.
- GOT QUESTIONS? http://wiki.urbandead.com
- Recruit: Try not to be shy. Let people know you are with the Malton Forensics Unit. Encourage Scientists to report in, providing the URL. If you aren't the talkative type, just provide the URL for the forum and let them know people here will be happy to answer questions. The more personnel the department has at it's disposal, the more good we can do in the community!
- Maintain the wiki: This goes particularly to Head Coroners, who need to keep the MFU Command page up to date. But all members can help out by making sure we are listed in the description of suburbs within which we are active, linking NecroTech entries to us where actively monitored by MFU personnel, helping to maintain the List of Revivification Points, etc.
- Barricade plans: Draw up barricade plans in accordance with the Uniform Barricading Policy for any suburbs in organized districts that do not already have one developed by active groups specific to that area.
- Work with your community: Scientists are encouraged to communicate with and assist any local community groups whose goals are congruent with the Unit's Goals and Guidelines. Additionally, as a Malton-wide organization, we have the opportunity to help bring like-minded groups together on large-scale projects. Working as a team we can accomplish great things!
[edit] Supported Policies
Uniform Barricading Policy The Uniform Barricade Policy (UBP) is designed to provide as secure a barricade plan as possible that still leaves resource buildings and sufficient safe shelters accessible for less experienced survivors. It is also designed to provide a wide range of entryways for those with Free Running, so the population can spread throughout the suburb, reducing tempting targets crowded with survivors if located by zombie spies. The Free Running skill is strongly recommended as a very early skill choice for survivors.

Sacred Ground
We support the Sacred Ground Policy, and members must consider cemetaries functional Revivification Points. While it is still recommended to only revive those that have placed a request, zombies on these locations should not be attacked.

ESCUE Where possible, churches should be considered as indoor RPs, removing the need to step outside and back inside to perform revivification.
| Rescue |
| This user thinks that adding 1 AP to the revive cycle is pointless. |
No Random Revivification Select revive targets using revive request tools that allow you to see the profile of the person you are reviving. This prevents you from reviving a known player killer or generator killer or wasting a syringe on a zombie with Brain Rot, and keeps syringes available to those people that will be acting in the interest of survivors.

| This User or Group supports the Random Revive Policy by utilizing Revivification Request tools. |
River Tactics
River Tactics are a broad range of strategies which seek to gain an advantage over zombie horde and mega-horde incursions through flexibility, redirection and avoidance. Borrowing heavily from concepts cultivated in Aikido, River Tactics do not directly conflict with the thrust of enemy strikes, instead exploiting the voids for survivor advantage.

[edit] MFU Core Curriculum
MFU recruits are expected to master the following trainee skills during their time at The Academy. New graduates should make acquisition of the advanced skills a priority after receiving their first assignment. Recruits who enter the Academy already in possession of all the trainee skills need only attend campus for one week or until they have demonstrated mastery of DEM policies and protocols.
Trainee Skills (Required for graduation):
| Advanced Skills:
|
(The NT and Doctor labels are artifacts from the period when MFU only accepted applications from scientist characters. The Core skills have not changed, however.)
The levels are the suggested order in which these skills should be acquired. However, current environmental conditions or campus/team needs should also be considered; for example, an NT cadet may wish to purchase Diagnosis before Lab Experience in order to fill a deficit in campus triage reporting.
Cadets are encouraged to discuss questions about their skills training and priorities with their instructor staff.
[edit] Organization
- 1 Chief of Forensics - Sets MFU policy in cooperation with the Commissioner's office. Rank equivalent to MPD Superintendant.
- 20 Head Coroners - Each responsible for 1 District, composed of 5 suburbs.
- 100 Coroners - Oversee each suburb, may assign Toxicologists to NecroTech Buildings as resident scientists to oversee operations.
- Lab Technicians and Toxicologists - Associated with the NecroTech network.
Coroners are granted a fair amount of latitude in how they organize their suburb and keep their crews motivated, as long as they are working in accordance with Department guidelines and respond to directives from their Head Coroner and/or Chief Inspector.
