Neutral Point of View
The Mingus Big Band is a triple-nature group (survivor, zed and PKer) of travelling musicians. Currently in the early recruitment stages, it welcomes all members new to the game or veteran Maltonians. The Band moves throughout the city, seeking to bring the Jazz back to wherever they feel the people need it most.

Want to see The Mingus Big Band for yourself? You're in luck! The Band can be booked to play a gig anywhere within the city limits - simply get in contact with them on the talk page or on their their forum. Bookings are essential.

A Beginning

At the beginning of the outbreak, the recently dead began to rise. With them, the jazz legend Charlie Mingus found his way to the surface, and eventually Malton. Shambling along to a walking bass line, he found his way across the city, and into a Necrotech facility. One quick stick later and Charlie was back in the land of the living, a little stiff, but otherwise fine. With his new found breath of life, Charlie began to walk through the city he'd find himself inside. And he was disappointed. Everywhere he turned, everywhere he listened, there was no music. He could not find a single note amongst the thousands of survivors, or the zombie hordes that controlled much of the city. And this made him confused, sad, and angry.

Throughout his travels, he met others who felt the same way. They missed the music that once covered the entire globe. Slowly but surely, he gathered a steady following, his disciples of musicianship. They gathered what instruments they could from across the city, as they would need tools to convert the masses. And eventually, when their tour was complete, they found themselves in Tompson Mall. Each member grabbed a hat from the Hat Store, picked their instrument up and then, as one, they struck that first chord. With the music shouting out through the empty stores, the survivors turned to see what this was. Smiles began to appear on faces that had not changed in months. Feet began to tap, heads began to bop. A few made their way to that stage, drawn to the music they had missed so much. Crowds began to form. The undead at the gates stopped their banging, tilted their ears towards the new and unfamiliar sound. And with that show, the music had been brought back to Malton.

Now, you will find the Mingus Big Band travelling throughout the city, playing gigs in every club, hotel and Mall they find. They play wherever they feel they are needed, or wherever the people, alive or undead, scream for their jiving beats, screaming horns, and the melody that makes them dance. The Mingus Big Band is bringing the Jazz back to Malton.

"Creativity is more than just being different. Anybody can plan weird; that's easy. What's hard is to be as simple as Bach. Making the simple, awesomely simple, that's creativity."

-- Charles Mingus
