Survivor Tactics
The information on this page or section discusses a survivor strategy.

A Foreword

Above all else, Poke Tactics are not meant to be used for the disposal and removal of hostiles. Anyone following Poke Tactics will have to accept that they will not be killing most of their enemies and they should rejoice in that. Disruption, even in the most minor of ways, is your main goal. You alone may not break the siege or crush that building, but your meddling is intended to weaken the opposition in minor ways. Whether they end up with less HP or less AP, you've helped and probably caused more trouble than you're worth.

This tactic was researched by survivors, but it could very well work for zombies. In fact, it is probably considered one of the basic zombie tactics, but changed for the survivors' sake: go in, hassle as many enemies as possible, and get out alive. That being said, it will only be outlined for Humans.

Poke Tactics Requirements

Knife, Fireaxe, Pistol, Shotgun, or zombie weapons and accompanying training for the weapon(s).

Free-running helps, though is typically only necessary against sieges.

You need to hit quickly and strike as many targets as possible. Load your weapons up before you leave to fight.

Human Poke Tactics

First, you must ready your weapons and find targets.

Second, you must find your targets. As zombies are one big, hulking, nameless mass, tactically adding them to your contact list and labeling them a certain color (Red for all tangos, possibly, or maybe different colors, to allow easy differentiation) is crucial. This is especially easy when (or right before) you throw dead intruders out of your building. You can skip this step if you are attacking a small group or a lone zombie.

Third, you must attack as many foes as possible, spreading out damage at a rate of one hit per enemy unless the group is small enough for you to hit more than once in one run. The main point is not to cripple the enemy force, but to hobble them. One hit you make is one hit an active defender doesn't make. No matter what, deal no killing blows.

Fourth, you must retreat before you are caught and murdered for being annoying.

Zombie Sympathizer Poke Tactics

Your job is easier. Your targets are named and you probably have Diagnosis. If you are attempting to 'sap' for your zombie allies, it would be prudent to harm people at the bottom of the target list. They are the more active players and, thus, the guys you want to weaken. If they spend their resources ahead of time, it can throw off the metagamers' plans or just frustrate the lone wolves. Either way, your cause has been strengthened by so many AP. However, you still want to hurt as many people as possible. Even though you can't spread infections, you can make them spend FAKs, even if your weapon is lame. If you die, you join the horde anyway, so you win that way too.

You still want to get out before you meet your end, so that you have some time to get to a safe zone. Not everyone in the zombie horde will ignore you, especially those ferals.

Advantages

  • You don't die.
  • If you do, you can continue to use it.
  • It can be done regardless of whether or not zombies are inside a building.
  • Those that get into your building are less likely to kill you/your zombie brothers are more likely to have a successful siege.

Disadvantages

  • You get less XP for wounding.
  • Wars are not won with these tactics, otherwise meat-shields would be even more expendable.
  • Without coordination and the aid of conventional warriors, you will surely fail.
  • Zombies with digestion can heal themselves without much trouble.

Note for Noobs

Poke Tactics do not benefit you in the slightest. You want to kill to gain Exp. You are not able enough to help a defending team in any way other than meat-shielding and they don't value you very much since you can't barricade. Give poke tactics a try when you have some levels under your belt.
