Space Marine Pledge

Who are the Space Marines?

We are the Emperor's Finest, chosen from male youths and subjected to vigorous trials, training, psycho-conditioning, given the best weapons and equipment in the Imperium, they are the first in the fray and the Angels of Death. In Hive Malton the Space Marines serve as our rapid-reaction force that strikes both beyond our territory and serves to reinforce positions and allies in danger of attack by Traitors or Mutant hordes. Only the best may join them, and it is an honor to serve alongside the Adeptus Astartes in battle. We serve as elite, precise strike teams coordinating our actions through IRC in real-time to have maximum impact out of proportion to our limited numbers and have a high degree of participation compared to other agencies.

History

The Legions

The First Space Marines were produced by and using the genetic material of the God-Emperor's twenty Primarchs. These were exceptional individuals, with great and varied powers. There were twenty Legions in all, each under the command of their Primarch. The Legions were incredible fighting forces, composed of Mankind's greatest warriors and armed with the most advanced weaponry and equipment available to the Imperium. Each Legion contained thousands of Marines and were many times the size of the later chapters with the only limit being the amount of Gene-seed the Legion had for transforming humans.

Horus Heresy

After many years fighting to reunite the fragmented empire of humanity the Emperor returned to ancient Terra (Earth) handing the reins of 'the Great Crusade' over to Horus, primarch of the Luna Wolves. With this great honour was also bestowed the title Warmaster and the permission to rename his legion 'The Sons of Horus'.

In the 31st millennium, nine of the Legions were corrupted by the influence of the Chaos Gods, purged themselves of potential loyalists at the Istvaan III Virus Bombing, wiped out most of the Salamanders, Raven Guard, and Iron Hands Legions including the Iron Hands Primarch Ferrus Manus at the Istvaan V Drop-Site Massacre, and rebelled against the Imperium and the Emperor's rule under the leadership of Horus. The already competitive legions fell upon each other cutting a swathe of destruction right to the heart of the Imperium.

After a cataclysmic battle for the Emperor's Palace on Terra itself, the traitors were defeated and Horus was slain by the Emperor's own hand. Horus' defeat was not without cost however; the Emperor was left crippled and on the brink of death eternally consigned to 'the Golden Throne'.

Breaking of the Legions

After the heresy, there were many fears of another Astartes rebellion, and so it was decided to divide the nine loyal Legions into smaller forces called Chapters, a thousand Marines to each. The Imperial Navy was also removed from their command with extreme limitations being imposed upon the fleets of the space marines. Every Chapter has some history back to one of the original loyal Legions through the geneseed of the Primarchs.

Present Day

In subsequent millennia, the Imperium has also created new Chapters of Space Marines, using gene-seed sampled from existing ones. Many of these Successor Chapters follow the beliefs and doctrines of the Chapter their genetic material originated from, while maintaining their own methods of operation and battle. According to Codex: Space Marines, the vast majority of new Chapters are founded using the Ultramarines gene-seed, as they have the most stable gene-seed and still have all 19 functional implants.

There are approximately a thousand Space Marine Chapters in existence, most of which follow the teachings of the Codex Astartes, but the exact number is not known.

All Space Marine Chapters within Hive Malton serve as the rapid reaction force of the Imperium of Man, both bolstering defenses in threatened suburbs and acting as our first wave in any attacks against enemies of the Imperium of Man. Space Marine forces may be deployed anywhere within Hive Malton so long as it is in furthering the interests of the Imperium of Man and Allies of the Imperium.

Founding of New Chapters

As per Command Order #1, the manner in which Space Marine Chapters will be founded has been changed to the following:

New Chapters and Orders can be founded as separate groupings of Marines and Sisters if there are at least five who are willing to do so. Said Chapters and Orders until they hit 25 do not get representation on Imperial Command but are seconded to another Chapter or Order who does, presently that would only be the Wolf Lord Ulfgard. Once they hit 25, which is enough for five minimum strength squads, then they receive their own representation on Command, and while this may seem like a potential security matter it would take a considerable amount of time and effort to get together that many people under one Chapter and as such should both be rewarded and encouraged with that. That said, the Marines and the Sisters collectively would still both only have one vote in Command matters, so all the Marine Chapters would get only one vote and same with the Sister Orders.

That said, aside from needing at least five to found a new Order or Chapter, this will require approval from Command to do and there must be aside from the needed five, one of whom must serve as a Chaplain or Palantine as the case may be, there can only be one Chapter and one Order founded each month. This gives time for the new Chapters and Orders to grow after founding and prevents the possibility of 10 Orders and Chapters of 5 members each diluting their effectiveness.

Organization

The Space Marines are organized into a number of different Chapters each with its own practices, lineage, and history in Hive Malton. Each Chapter has its own recruitment policies and training practices.

All Chapters mark their membership with the following template:

and individual Astartes with the following template:

All Chapters follow a more or less similar structure as is laid down in the Codex Astartes, although there is some variation in how this is done and some few chapters disregard the Codex completely like the Black Templars, who organize into Crusades of no fixed size broken down into Fighting Companies of fifty, or the Space Wolves, who are formed of twelve Great Companies of no fixed size, as two examples of this. As there are approximately a thousand Chapters in the Imperium it would be nearly impossible to list all of them with their colors and standards. In general most follow the model outlined below:

Chapter

A truly awesome force of Space Marines, a full Chapter is the largest unit of any one group of Space Marines who serve as part of the same unit. Consisting of ten full-size companies, a Chapter of Space Marines when deployed is a military force that few can match.

Company

A company is a force that consist of nine combat squads and a command squad. A company is commanded by a Brother-Captain. This is the largest force that is likely to be deployed by any Chapter in Malton and is the upper limit on any Chapter's size with the noted above exceptions.

Squad

The base unit of all fighting forces of a Space Marine Chapter, a squad is lead by a Brother-Sergeant and consists of ten Battle Brothers of varying specializations. Some squads are specialized in assault while others in fire support and some are truly all-around units. Command squads consist of the Company Captain along with nine other Battle Brothers in support.
