Zombies almost always check inside. Some are often used as literal fortresses, and are sometimes so heavily barricaded that it is impossible to enter without Free Running. Tagging a police station earns 2 XP. They are listed as a Tactical Resource Point. Police Stations can be barricaded normally.

An imposing yellow-stone building. One of two PD's and Ammo Cache's at the far Western edge of Grigg Heights.
