20070511 Small change to infectious bite

Mordac the Refuser 04:47, 11 May 2007 (BST)

Suggestion type Minor skill modification. Suggestion scope Zombies and bite-infected humans. Suggestion description

First of all, let me start out by saying that this is NOT a change that nerfs any skill or overpower anything. Secondly, I'm pretty sure this isn't a duplicate of something else (if it is, I apologize). Anyway, onto the suggestion:

The infectious bite should "wear off" after reducing the victim's health to 1 hp. It'd be something like the Zerg Defiler's plague spores from Starcraft. It doesn't kill the victim, but it turns them into easy one-hit kills for roaming zombies.

My issue with the current infectious bite:

-The current system forces infected survivors with one HP left to remain standing absolutely still and wait for help - which may never come.

-FAKs are not always easy to find.

-Waiting and waiting for someone to heal you is kind of... dull.

-New, inexperienced human players are likely "doomed" if infected.

Survivor Benefits:

-Am infected survivor with low hp points, no FAKs, and no medics nearby could still be able to move around and search areas.

-Basically a survivor has a SLIGHTLY better chance of coming out alive.

Zombie Benefits (or why this is NOT nerfing Zombie skills): - 1 HP survivor is still pretty much dead meat - or at least is in no shape for combat.

- There are more easy-to-kill lunches running around. This would especially help lone zombies looking for free XP.

-Low ranking zombies in need of XP could especially benefit.

-Gives zombie players more practice sharpening their hunting skills.

Overall Benefits:

-Adds to the feel of zombies "toying" with their prey.

-Adds a bit of suspense to the game (running everywhere, clinging on to a tiny bit of hope and bumping into hungry zombies at every corner who could kill you with one swipe).

An infected survivor who's bite wears off should receive this sort of message:

"The infectious bite finally wears off, but your body remains weak and in agony. Soon, zombies will smell your blood and detect your weakened state and come swarming after you. You are in no shape for a fight. If you don't want to become a free meal for the zombies, you'd better START RUNNING NOW."

  1. Kill - I like the genre thingy of dying from a zombie bite. After you're bit, you know you're doomed, so some cheap thing about surviving makes UD less interesting. I personally would be mad if I survived a zombie bite...--Lachryma 04:51, 11 May 2007 (BST)
Re: A guy with 1 hp left in a zombie infested area is still pretty much doomed. Mordac the Refuser 04:59, 11 May 2007 (BST)
ReRe - But I like to see them cough and fall over!--Lachryma 05:13, 11 May 2007 (BST)
  2. Kill - No, Zombie bite should always kill you if left untreated. --User:Axe27/Sig 05:04, 11 May 2007 (BST)
  3. Kill - Definitely a kill, if anything infection should be more lethal. --Sonofagun18 05:48, 11 May 2007 (BST)
