20070512 Advanced Free-Running

Seb_Wiers VeM 00:11, 12 May 2007 (BST)

Suggestion type
Skill; subskill of free-running

Suggestion scope
Survivors

Suggestion description
A sub-skill of free-running that would allow several new abilities.

First, you would always have and be able to successfully use the "exit building" option, even in buildings over VSB.

Second, entering or exiting a building would cost 0 APs under most circumstances- although you still could only enter buildings that are VSB or less. Its assumed you are so acrobatic that entrances and exits are no more of an impediment to you than interior walls, cars in the street, and so forth; since you aren't moving to a new block, there is no cost. The one situation where there WOULD be a cost (1 AP) is if your previous action was to enter (or exit); you can't do free "ins and outs" without taking an action (one with an AP cost) in between. This is to prevent people with the skill from going to VSB+2 (or less) buildings or and popping in and out over and over for no AP.

This new skill would be pretty handy, and it also fixes the "can't move to outside of adjacent square" annoyance free-running currently causes. If that's what you want to do, this skill would let you exit your building (for 0 AP) and then move to the adjacent square.

Keep Votes

  1. Keep Totally great idea. --Moskau Moskau 17:31, 12 May 2007 (BST)
  2. Keep I agree with Suicidalangel. It is annoying having to move blocks just to get out of a building.--Joshua Durden.[۩AB] [ZS] 06:39, 12 May 2007 (BST)
  3. Keep - Author Vote. --Seb_Wiers VeM 01:14, 12 May 2007 (BST)
  4. Keep Don't see why not. --User:Axe27/Sig 00:30, 12 May 2007 (BST)
  5. Keep A pretty good idea. I always hated having to move four more blocks just to leave a building.--Suicidalangel T 00:43, 12 May 2007 (BST)
  6. Lovely - Ooo, a brilliant skill!--Lachryma 01:17, 12 May 2007 (BST)
  7. Keep If you can move outside by clicking on an adjacent building when you don't have free running learning new abilities shouldn't prevent you from doing what you were able to before. I'd get rid of the free entry though, just the free exiting is appropriate. --Jon Pyre 04:25, 12 May 2007 (BST)
  8. Keep - This would be pretty useful. --Uncle Bill 04:26, 12 May 2007 (BST)
  9. Keep - Magnificent! It's always annoying to move to other blocks to get outside. --Fippe 06:58, 12 May 2007 (BST)
  10. Kill - Sounds pretty good. --Sonofagun18 09:29, 12 May 2007 (BST)
  11. Keep Yep. I like it. Oh, and sonofagun, surely you meant keep, not kill? --Seventythree 12:07, 12 May 2007 (BST)
  12. Keep This is a good implementation. "Popping out and in" to check on what's outside will cost 1 AP, as it should. One free enter or exit makes sense as advanced free running, and the "can't go to outside adjacent building" is actually kind of an annoying nerf for taking free running right now, it really needs to be fixed. Thanks, good idea. --Rasi 08:55, 12 May 2007 (EST)
  13. Keep - yeah, sounds cool to me. --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 23:19, 12 May 2007 (BST)
  14. Keep - I'm a bit shaky on the second part, but overall it is good. --ZombieSlay3rSig.pngT 01:09, 13 May 2007 (BST)
  15. Keep - If you are voting kill because you think entering a building over VSB is a noob killer, read this.--Labine50 MHG|MEMS|DHPD 02:46, 13 May 2007 (BST)
  16. Keep A very useful skill and you don't waste much AP. JudeMaverick 13:20, 13 May 2007 (BST)
  17. Keep - If all high level players can enter or exit EHB buildings with ease, then bye bye entry points, hello utter newbiedeath of the game --Gene Splicer 18:49, 12 May 2007 (BST)
False supposition = false conclusion. The suggestion says quote: you still could only enter buildings that are VSB or less. It makes no change to the requirements for entry points, and hence no difference to newbies. --Seb_Wiers VeM 19:18, 12 May 2007 (BST) - I was tired, sue me --Gene Splicer 13:44, 13 May 2007 (BST)
  18. Keep - Sounds good to me. - JedazΣT MC ΞD CT SR: 09:54, 15 May 2007 (GMT)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - The free entry and exit-part is what makes me go against this. - BzAli 11:49, 12 May 2007 (BST)
  2. Kill - Just click on an empty square (street, wasteland, cemetery, etc.) to get outside (there are only a handful of locations that are totally "landlocked"). And being able to enter/exit for free? WTF? -- boxy T L ZS Nuts2U DA 12:12, 12 May 2007 (BST)
Exiting a building is already generally a "free move". When you click on an adjacent empty square, you spend 1 AP to move to it, and get a free exit from the building you were in. This would extend that already existing ability to the square you currently occupy, and enhance that ability in a logical direction. The benefit is not the ability to exit "landlocked buildings", but rather being able to move in any direction (including into buildings) you wish for the same AP cost as moving over open terrain. Which is what free-running really should give you, if you master it. --Seb_Wiers VeM 14:47, 12 May 2007 (BST)
  3. Kill - i don't like the "free enter/exit" part --Duke GarlandLCD 15:03, 12 May 2007 (BST)
  4. Kill -no free moves.--Vista +1 15:22, 12 May 2007 (BST)
  5. Kill - Free movement isn't good. Exiting out of HB buildings as a sub-skill or something is nice though. --Heavy DDR 15:58, 12 May 2007 (BST)
  6. Kill - While exiting a building is essentially free, entering it isn't. Nor should it be. Besides, if you have free running, you can simply free run to wherever you need to go without stepping outside. What sane survivor would want to go outside? There is nothing out there but zombies.--Bluish wolf 16:36, 12 May 2007 (BST)
"What sane survivor would want to go outside?" How about any survivor who wishes to revive people, and doesn't have one of the cities very few RESCUE locations handy to work in? Though I'll grant you, not all revive workers are sane- take Vita ex Mors for example... --Seb_Wiers VeM 17:01, 12 May 2007 (BST)
  7. Kill - I think this would allow for such a flux in the amount AP, that the potiential harm could outway the potiential good. --Poodle of doom 21:06, 12 May 2007 (BST)
  8. Spam Yes, this is a kill vote. The only reason it isn't a spam vote is because I like the idea of having a choice to leave the building you are in to the street. But for 0 AP? Free Running does NOT need improvement.--Pesatyel 22:04, 12 May 2007 (BST)
  9. Change - I like it but I think that the free entry/exit thing maybe isn't such a good thing- everything should cost AP- maybe just going through buildings with no barriacdes- just a door would be free or something... --MarieThe Grove on Tour 10:27, 13 May 2007 (BST)
  10. Kill - Free actions that gather free info (at the very least) on the hordes outside are really bad. There's a reason even the binoculars can't look outside your current building. --Matthew Fahrenheit YRCT+1 10:51, 14 May 2007 (BST)
Please explain how this could be used to gather information without spending any APs. I tried to write it so that was not possible. --Seb_Wiers VeM 12:43, 14 May 2007 (BST)
  11. Kill - Free running is on the basis of using Sewers isn't it? In that case this makes no sense because you're using the sewer entrance on that block anyway as your exit. Oh and free running is fine as is, downsides are a good thing.--karek 07:41, 16 May 2007 (BST)
Sewers large enough to allow travel into every building in Malton (but not under any roads) seem rather unlikely. It seems likely that Free Running is inteded to incorporate elements of parkour, and if you type "free running" into google and hit "feeling lucky", you get this, which is directly related to parkour. In other words, free running = acrobatic stunts of some sort.
The problem with the downside to Free Running is that once you buy the skill, you can't use any other mode of movement- every time you click on a building, its using free running! There's no way to go back to normal movement; its like buying brain rot! --Seb_Wiers VeM 12:21, 16 May 2007 (BST)
  12. As BzALi. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 13:59, 17 May 2007 (BST)
  13. Kill - Free actions are generally not good, if you ask me. This basically allows you to survey the inside and outside areas at the same time while spending no extra AP, right? I'd be more okay with it if it was one-way (which would have to be the outside direction). --Rgon 17:17, 18 May 2007 (BST)
