[edit] 20070519 GPS Units Crossover to Zeds
ShadowScope 06:29, 19 May 2007 (BST)
Suggestion type
Improvement
Suggestion scope
Zombies.
Suggestion description
If a zombie has a GPS unit when he is dead, he is still able to see the GPS co-ordinates of the building he is in. So instead of seeing "You are standing outside The Blackmore Building", such characters would see "You are standing outside The Blackmore Building (55,47).
Why? Well, it provides a cross-over item, and therefore provides a use for the otherwise useless GPS unit. Zombies are able to aquire flak jackets and can determine with accuracy the health level of a rival player with Diagnosis, so I think they can read random numbers on a GPS Unit. However, a zombie can roleplay not being able to understand that these numbers corespends to certain buildings until he gets Memories of Life, and even then maybe not even then.
What's the point? Well, it allows for zombies to easily locate where buildings are, and allow for them to communicate to each other where targets are located. Pure zombies who don't bother with human gear (like the Barhah Bridage) won't be harmed by this, but other zombies would like this suggestion a lot. The info is already there in the source code, or easy to find on a map.

Keep Votes
- Keep -I see this as good idea. --Fippe 11:17, 20 May 2007 (BST)
- Keep - Not much cross-over items in UD and zombies can read, I think. So the GPS should be a cross-over item. --JudeMaverick W! TJ! Talk 06:34, 19 May 2007 (BST)
- Keep Makes sence.--Seventythree 11:07, 19 May 2007 (BST)
- Keep Sounds good. --Ylomaus 12:37, 19 May 2007 (BST)
- Keep It's a great idea, maybe not a GPS as someother people have said. Maybe something along the lines of "Memories of Direction" sort of thing? I don't really know what to replace the GPS for zombies, but still a good idea.--Sheep to spam: Always ! 05:31, 20 May 2007 (BST)
- Keep - This has to be a dupe. --Matthew Fahrenheit YRC☺T☺+1 07:42, 20 May 2007 (BST)
- Keep - Zombies can already listen to radios so I don't see why they cant read GPS units.--Bluish wolf 08:55, 20 May 2007 (BST)

Kill Votes
- Isn't it already like that? If not, please tell me and I'll change my vote to keep. --Axe Hack is Against the New Facebook 15:35, 19 May 2007 (BST)
- No, I am afraid it is not. If you get a GPS Unit as a surivior and then die, you do not see your inventory, hence you do not see your GPS Unit at all. swiers told me that, hence why I made this suggestion in the first place.--ShadowScope 16:43, 19 May 2007 (BST)
- Kill - Survivors don't get to see this information without scrolling down to the inventory. Why should zombies? That's really my only issue with it; if it was changed to display the coordinates in the inventory section - or if it also had that data displayed next to the building name for survivors - I would be fine with it. --Saluton 16:20, 19 May 2007 (BST)
- I'll add it in as a note for that to happen if it gets to Peer Review, looks more logical.--ShadowScope 16:43, 19 May 2007 (BST)
- Kill -Does'nt make much sense, these are zombies for gods sake, no intelligent beings! Maybe, maybe if it required memories of life to use, but even then... have you ever seen a zombie reading data in a horror flick? - Kill - I've got no problem with zombie characters knowing where they are, but I do have a problem with them using human gear. It's completely out of genre. I like the "Scents of Direction" suggestion better for this reason, but if you want to make it easier, just add it (for free) to one of the other skills in the scent tree. --Uncle Bill 04:09, 20 May 2007 (BST)
- Kill as uncle bill--Vista +1 12:37, 20 May 2007 (BST)
- Kill - The zombie might as well just be a survivor. --Heavy DDR 13:20, 21 May 2007 (BST)
- Kill or Change - Zombies are almost completely unintelligent beings. They CANNOT use computer equipment! I thought this was a joke suggestion at first. Personally, I think it should be placed in the humorous suggestions category after this vote is done. The obvious flaws aside, I could see an additional skill along the lines of "memories of life" (actually, a subskill of that one) providing a way for the zombie to look at his/her GPS unit. Still, though, even this change leaves the idea throughly ridiculous. Can the survivors become as Bruce Campbell or other zombie action heroes and attatch 100% accuracy shotguns or chainsaws to their limbs? No. That would be silly. --Davurnium 16:40, 21 May 2007 (BST)
- EDIT: I don't like this idea (how could anyone get that impression?), but I think there might be a good compromise. I like the "Scents of Direction" suggestion that also appears under the suggestions that are under consideration. Zombies using technology irks me, but I'd be closer to supporting it if it was inherently biological. --Davurnium 19:24, 21 May 2007 (BST)
- Kill/change -What if the the GPS lets you see the co-ordinates of all the buildings on the map (so A: you don't have to scroll down to see it and B: People will save a little time if they have to remember how the numbers go up and down as you move) and make it so zombies with MoL can use a GPS? --AlexanderRM 01:54, 22 May 2007 (BST)
Spam/Dupe Votes
- Spam - Seriously, is this some kind of joke? Zombies using computer equipment? Next will they be given the chance to use Necronet to look for nice big hordes to hang out in? A skill to give them a sense of vague direction may be an idea worth considering, but not this. Comparing a hand-held computer device to a flak jacket or the Diagnosis skill is just ridiculous. To use the GPS the zombie would have to take it out, check it, understand the display and put it away again (unless you say they have it in hand all the time, in which case you'll have to give a serious nerf to claw attacks), which is hardly comparable to a tightly-strapped flak jacket which was being worn when the person died, or a Diagnosis skill which basically indicates the ability to recognize a wound. --The Hierophant 17:34, 20 May 2007 (BST)
- RE TO ALL: My experience with Suggestions has taught me that only Peer Review or Peer Reject suggestions get considered...rarely Peer Undecided. To all those who voted Kill and Spam, you can expect a brand new zombie non-crossover skill that will have an added side-effect of a GPS Unit. However...note that it will have to be a side-effect, spending 100 XP just to gain a GPS Unit seems a bit too...useless.--ShadowScope 19:38, 21 May 2007 (BST)
