20070519 More Donation Upgrades

Seb_Wiers VeM 03:50, 19 May 2007 (BST)

Suggestion type
general improvement

Suggestion scope
characters that have been nominated by players who donated $5 to have the IP hit limit relaxed

Suggestion description
A couple new perks to encourage donations. They may increase bandwidth consumption, but then, that's what the donation helps cover:

  • These characters would always see all the people present in a location, rather than having to use the ?zoom command in locations with more than 50 people. This would have a setting to allow it to be turned off.
  • Speech (by all characters) would be heard by all characters present who have donated, plus 50 more. Thus, characters who have donated would hear all things said by all other characters in their location, regardless of number of people present. This would have a setting to allow it to be turned off.

  1. Kill (Possible Change) - Too overpowered for the 1st one because that will give a good day to PKers. 2nd is ok... --JudeMaverick W! TJ! Talk 06:15, 19 May 2007 (BST)
With 350 IP hits, you can already afford to "?zoom" quite a few times. This would just make the process automatic, not grant any new advantage. --Seb_Wiers VeM 14:19, 19 May 2007 (BST)
  2. It is a good suggestion, but I am not exactly sure why more people want to pay to listen to more in-game spam. Might be useful to gain valuable information...but it still, meh.--ShadowScope 06:19, 19 May 2007 (BST) EDIT: Actually I wonder about changing it so that the person who paid the money can generate in-game spam. Everyone in the building can listen to his messages, if he donated for that character. Far more useful...--ShadowScope 06:20, 19 May 2007 (BST)
There was a skill suggestion along those lines (your speech was heard by 100 people, not 50) and it was not very popular. Note that I did include the option to turn off the "hear all voices" feature (would be done via settings).
  3. Kill No, sorry but the Idea is that the game is free. I can understand about the IP hit thing, but actualy giving any Ingame bonus to people who have donated goes agaiongst the spirit of the thing, and one of the reasons I play the game. Should be open to all.--Seventythree 11:05, 19 May 2007 (BST)
Donated characters can already do a few things you can't (effectively) do with others. ?Rise spamming is MUCH more effective when you have 350 IP hits per character to play with, for example. These suggestions focus on "community membership" (seeing and hearing other people), which IMO is exactly why people donate (they like the UD community). --Seb_Wiers VeM 14:19, 19 May 2007 (BST)
  4. As those above. And you do remember that REing all the votes is considered abuse, right? --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 15:36, 19 May 2007 (BST)
If somebody wants to report me for abuse on that count, I'll be happy to argue my case and face the consequences; it may result in policy change on that topic. I'm not personally invested in how people vote, but I like to try and account for why people's opinions differ from mine, so I'm really just hoping for replies, not vote changes. Clearly this isn't nearly as popular idea as I'd expected, so a little extra discussion on why its unpopular seems wortwhile to me. --Seb_Wiers VeM 18:29, 19 May 2007 (BST)
