20070525 Upgrade to mobile phones

Seventythree 08:43, 25 May 2007 (BST)

Suggestion type
Change to existing equipment.

Suggestion scope
Survivors.

Suggestion description
Ok, for now mobile phones are pretty useless. I however, can see that there could be some real potential in them. Here is a list of minor alterations that I feel should be made.

  • Make the text that you input when sending a message more readable (ok, this may just be my computer resolution or something, but does anyone else find it nearly impossible to read what you're typing in?)
  • Have an Inbox with space for 10 messages (messages can be deleted for no AP cost)
  • Have a function by which you can, for an extra AP send the message to up to 10 people in your 'phonebook'
  • Include a signal bar. Just a little bit of text in the corner of the phone screen, like signal:good Or No signal
  • If youv'e sent a message to someone in a suburb with no powered mobile mast, you receve a text message that reads [name of recipicant] Message not received.

Come on, give us people who don't use forums and such a chance! Thanks to UncleBill for his enthusiasm in the idea.

  4. It's probably just your resolution that you can't read it...you can already send a message to multiple people at once, but all in all....this is a pretty good idea, I'll give you that keep you want. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 13:25, 25 May 2007 (BST)

  15. Keep - helps to decrease the amount of meta gaming necessary.--Vista +1 15:05, 27 May 2007 (BST)
  16. Keep -I like it when old tools have a use again. Plus it puts more of the game back into the game itself instead of outside forums. Now if only we can find a use for wire cutters again... --Slowwber 22:36, 27 May 2007 (BST)
  17. Keep - Good idea but when the SMS is sent to a player in no-mobile-mast suburb he would recieve the SMS when he enters a suburb with a mobile mast. That't the way it works in real life anyway. --Murhapuro 13:15, 31 May 2007 (BST)
RE Thankyou! I knew I forgot something. Shame it's too late to change it now.--Seventythree 15:33, 2 June 2007 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - Or you could get your contacts e-mail addresses. What you are asking for is, essentially, a mini-email thing in the game. There are outside ways to do this which are far more developed than anything that could be put in UD. --Saluton 14:26, 25 May 2007 (BST)
RE Perhaps I should have made it clearer, but part of the reason for this is to improve communication without metagaming. People may not want to give out their email adresses for whatever reason, or may feel that it is againgst the spirit of the game. After all you might as well say that any in-game communication is useless as you could just communicate through email.--Seventythree 14:43, 25 May 2007 (BST)
