20070617 New weapon: Repeating Rifle

Suggestion type New in game Weapon

Suggestion scope Players can find Repeating Rifles and slugs for ammo

Suggestion description Repeating Rifle holds 4 bullets at one time slugs are found only in singles. Slugs can be found in Forts and mall gunstores. Repeating Rifles can be found in Gun stores, museums and forts.

Damage repeating rifles does 8 damage and with flak jacket it does 6

Why Repeating Rifles in malton I think this will be benefital to Pkers and to Pro survivors fighting the zombie population. Think about it repeating rifles are not way to overpowered like an AK 47 and M16's are since repeating rifles do not hold 30 rounds and there is no clip loading. They are a fair weapon holding a maximum of 4 bullets and bullets are found one at time.

Rifle Training and advanced Rifle Training 75 XP for military 100XP for civilians 150 XP for scientists


Basic Firearms Training Player gets +25% to hit with all firearms attacks ( Rifle hit rate 30% )

Rifle Training An extra +25% to hit with a rifle ( Rifle Hit Rate 55% )

Advanced Rifle Training An extra +10% to hit ( rifle hit rate 65% )

Rifle and ammo Search Ratio's and Encumbrance rate

Encumbrance rate: 6%

Mall Gun Stores (3%/6%) ( Rifle )

Armories (2%), ( Rifle )

Museums (3%) ( Rifle )


Mall Gun Stores (6%/10%) ( Slug ammo )

Armories (4%) Slug Ammo )

Junkyards (1%?) ( slug Ammo )

Encumbrance rate: 2% / 0% when loaded

  1. Keep - As rifles go, this is one of the better suggestions. Falls right between the shotgun and the pistol in damage pr. shot and also in damage/AP. You might want to suggest some search odds, since people will vote spam and call the suggestion incomplete. - BzAli 22:04, 17 June 2007 (BST)
  2. Keep BzAli said it. This is better than some of the other rifle suggestions. Maybe play around with the accuracy a little bit, you know, give it a bit o' character. To Karek, just because it's frequently suggested doesn't mean that someone can't come up with an idea thats already in there that isn't completely worthless. If someone came up with a rifle suggestion that fit everybody's wants and needs, and was completely balanced (yes highly unlikely, but still possible) would you spam it just because it's in the Frequently suggested page?     One concern I have thought of, though: Will this mean another two feats? I think what we should do is make a feat called longarm specialization and have that for the first bonus to rifles and shotguns, then shotgun specialization for the extra shotgun bonus and rifle specialzation for the extra rifle bonus.

  6. Keep. Humans who favored shotguns were really hurt by the addition of encumberance. This offers an alternative, moderately high powered, and you can store more.   11. Keep - Well, this seems to be one of the better suggestions for weaponry I've seen in a long time. With a little bit of work this could turn out quite nicely.   15. Keep - Though I am usually very cautious around suggestions involving machine rifles like this, this is the most balanced, not over-powered one I've seen so far. I think, however, that they should not be found in museums, despite the many military exhibits found in historical museums. There are, after all, a lot of musuems in the city, and this sort of weapon ought to be kept in some moderation. If this is found in Mall stores, and people with pistol training find it, then a simple adjustment of their settings can make them disregard it as useless. In addition, this breaks the typical base 5(or ten, I suppose) damage rate of fire arms, which has been a bit of a thorn in my side during sieges. -- EtimS 17:43, 18 June 2007 (BST)

Keep/Change I'd say that for the damage it does, the AP it costs, and general accuracy of rifles, the accuracy maximum should be 75% (with a base, untrained accuracy of 15%) with no further changes to your suggestion.     Keep - I like it with one caveat that with the rifle you can see the zed outside your building and can shoot at them. Its completely unrealistic that you can not fire at zombies outside your building, as if a buildings second floor is boarded up because you barricaded downstairs. just a thought, either way i like the "repeating" rifle. --Darth Eins of Malton / Darth Einstein of Monroeville

  2. Kill - Keepers pushed you to add search rates--unfortunately, your search rates are horribly low. That's not the point here, though. My main objections include: 1) New gun suggestions are extremely common and this one does little to shine above the rest except being "balanced". 2) If a mid-level survivor has pistol training but not shotgun training or vice versa, when searching a police department or mall's gun store, he will find an annoyingly large number of the other type of weapon which will hinder him finding the kind he wants and also require him to waste time and IP hits dropping them. Adding a third type of weapon exacerbates this problem. 3) The only thing this has over shotguns is encumbrance. If a mid-range gun between pistol and shotgun were necessary, it would need to be more AP-efficient than the shotgun; i.e., rifle slugs could be found in pairs or small boxes containing multiple slugs.   3. Kill/Incomplete - Where does the "repeating" part come in? Is it just to make it sound better? Aside from that, encouraging PKers is a bad idea.   4. Kill - We don't need any more weapons in Malton, especially a balanced one. As you've balanced it between pistols and shotguns, the only point is to say "Now I have a rifle". And where would these weapons and all the ammo suddenly appear from? And as Magentaine pointed out, have a 3rd weapon and ammo type actually makes it harder for lower level survivors, as they'll be picking up ammo and weapons they aren't trained on. armareum 01:20, 22 June 2007 (BST)

    Don't assume that I'm stupid (or that anyone else is, for that matter), assume the opposite. If you can't see the point I'm trying to make I either didn't write it very well, or you just can't see it.
    In this case, the point I was trying to make was that out of the FIXED success rate for finding ammo or weapons, you'd now have to split that between 3 weapons, rather than the current 2. Which means less ammo/weapons of any one particular kind - e.g. less pistols and pistol clips for the low level character with only Pistol Training. armareum 01:21, 24 June 2007 (BST)
  5. Kill - 2 weapons is enough. I keep shotguns, and shell, even though they're not as AP efficient as pistols.
