20070627 Remember the zombie

Suggestion type
Game interface

Suggestion scope
Faceless zombies

Suggestion description
When you log on UD for the first time, you're likely to be welcomed with a page with tons of "A zombie poked his nose 3 hours and 1 pie ago", or something.

I suggest that, after a "A zombie ..." message is displayed in your screen, all subsequent messages coming from the same zombie be changed to "The zombie ...". It only keeps track of the last zombie that interacted with you, so if a different zombie says something (or attacks you), it will say "A zombie ..." again, and that zombie will be the new "the zombie".

Keep Votes

  1. Keep - Author vote. I agree that zombies are a faceless horde, but I think (as someone else said) I can distinguish "this zombie" from "that zombie", specially when "this zombie" is tangling around my neck. ~m T! 03:16, 27 June 2007 (BST)
  2. Keep - Because it doesn't do anything against zombie anonymity, seeing as how it only tells you it was the same zombie that attacked you without telling his/her profile.-- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 04:36, 27 June 2007 (BST)
  3. Keep - A good idea, though I suspect its easier said than done. Zombies should like it because a lot of times their own allies show up as "unknown zombies" if they are in a big group or move around a lot or whatever. ... 05:14, 27 June 2007 (BST)
  4. Keep - good one --Duke GarlandTLCD SSZ 07:32, 27 June 2007 (BST)
  5. Keep Nicely done--Seventythree 07:54, 27 June 2007 (BST)
  6. Keep Reasonable idea, makes sense! - Werewolf32 09:34, 27 June 2007 (BST)
  7. Keep - Same as Monstah (the author) SgtBop 09:46, 27 June 2007 (BST)
  8. Keep - Very Reasonable. --Perne 09:56, 27 June 2007 (BST)
  9. Keep - Nice little flavoresque change that really does nothing.--karek 12:14, 27 June 2007 (BST)
  10. Keep - I like it! although i think you mean "Picked his nose" , not poked.... --Bruce Torbaron 14:58, 27 June 2007 (BST)
  11. Keep me lieks it. But i know it will be a pain in the ass to program such a feature, so i guess this is nothing we are going to see around soon. --People's Commissar Hagnat [cloned] [mod] 15:03, 27 June 2007 (BST)
Undecided My problem lies in the fact that it kinda DOES damage anonymity. No, not in the sense that we always see the name, however it makes it a lot easier now for survivors to go "Alright, this same zombie was the only one to attack, so we know HE'S out of AP... therefore, let's move onto the next guy since this one isn't gonna be a threat for a while!". I don't think this is THAT big an issue, so if I don't change my "Undecided" vote to kill for whatever reason by tonight, then I'll just change it to keep instead. Still, either way, this is something to be considered. --Aguyuno 20:59, 27 June 2007 (BST) Abstentions/Undecided votes should not be tallied. armareum 21:37, 29 June 2007 (BST)
  12. Keep - Why not. Zombies stay zombie anonymous and at the same time, survivors can somewhat tell the difference between zombies. --Sonofagun18 04:04, 28 June 2007 (BST)
  13. Keep - The zombie approves. --Midianian 15:30, 28 June 2007 (BST)
  14. Keep - Mheh.-- Vista  +1  20:52, 28 June 2007 (BST)
  15. Keep - It'd be nice if zombies on your contacts list also had coloured names when they did something. armareum 21:39, 29 June 2007 (BST)
  16. Keep - Teh win. Vault 21:46, 30 June 2007 (BST)
  17. Keep - Why not? --wooty 17:24, 1 July 2007 (BST)
  18. Nice. Just keep this zombie off my back. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 22:42, 8 July 2007 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill -- This is unnecessary. Click on the link that is "a zombie" and add it to your contact list. -- Firemanrik 04:06, 27 June 2007 (BST)
Doesn't work. You'd have to reload the page to see the zombie's name, but then all the messages disappear. ~m T! 16:22, 27 June 2007 (BST)
It works if you use the back button.--Wee Sonny MacGregor 21:05, 27 June 2007 (BST)
Better yet, use a browser with tabs. -- Firemanrik 00:39, 28 June 2007 (BST)
