[edit] 20070821 Reduce Speech AP Cost

Vkkhamul 22:27, 21 August 2007 (BST)

Suggestion type
This is a balance improvement to make Urban Dead more lifelike. After all, how does speaking require as much effort as searching the area, walking (humans), or attacking? (Sorry if this is a dup)

Suggestion scope
Applies to all players.

Suggestion description
It is simple: the cost to speak, both for humans and for zombies, will be reduced from 1 Action Point to 0.5 Action Point.

Keep Votes

  1. Me being the author =p Vkkhamul 22:38, 21 August 2007 (BST)
  2. Keep - I wish there was a section to post neutral comments or "a little more detail and I'll give you a Keep vote" type things. I like the fact that this would increase communication and roleplaying. I don't like it because zombies usually don't communicate (in source material or in the game). However, in pure game terms, the lack of communication among zombies is a big bonus to survivors. It's also quite dupey, but the idea is good enough that it deserves to be brought up repeatedly. All that aside, I think increasing communication and RP ability is good, and SLIGHTLY outweighs the negatives. --Steakfish 00:07, 22 August 2007 (BST)
  3. KeepIt may have already been suggested but if I don't see a link I don't see proof!Chill 03:45, 22 August 2007 (BST)
  4. Keep More in-game communication is good. --Pdeq 05:39, 22 August 2007 (BST)
  5. Keep/Dupe - More speaking = more flavour. But I've a feeling I've seen this before. --; T
  6. Keep This Is needed, I think it should be straight 0. Nobody would spam, and I can't think of a time when it would be THAT precious to tell someone something. Im not talking about the radio, I mean just normal speech, for the fails below. For the spams below, They culd put a spam system in, just alot of talk, Means no talk for the day! Kaynex   09:03, 22 August 2007 (BST)
  7. Keep, although I concur with Kaynex that having it be 0 would be better yet. We shouldn't need to metagame so much. Saying a sentence and walking a block arn't even in the same league, and better communication would make the game a lot more fun. UpdateRealised that cost of 0 would get spammy. Fractional costs are not unworkable as I understand.--Pgunn 04:40, 23 August 2007 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - 1AP is fine for speech. And why appologise if it is a dupe? You should have check yourself before submitting this suggestion. That being said, I'm pretty sure it is. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 23:33, 21 August 2007 (BST)
  2. Kill - how do you have half of an action point? what your trying to accomplish is great, but if you want more AP to speak, after you're done searching/hunting/moving/'cading wait a few hours and log back in. I play in a survivor group that has reduced meta a sinlge page of guidines (so newbs can understand how we work) and spend at least 5 AP a day communicating to my group(and this will only increase as the group grows). Let's put it this way - the walking dead are smashing through the door, and have your freind by the arm. Would you take the time to calmly walk out side, see how many more there are and then walk back in to tell you freind that's so pleasantly getting chewed on what you saw and what your going to do about it? Or would you just hack the first thing that came through the door to bits and then throw a filing cabinet in the way to try and buy some time? Pardon my longwindedness, but (and feel free to quote me) this comes down to how you personaly play the game, not how the game is made to be played. --Jack13 14:53, 22 August 2007 (BST)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Dupe Just type in speaking and you'll get about 30 suggestions. Someone will provide a link, they always do.--Wooty 23:40, 21 August 2007 (BST)
  2. Dupe - Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is has suggested before. --Sonofagun18 06:49, 22 August 2007 (BST)
  3. Dupe/Spam - speaking should be costly to encourage valueable communication, not spammy yelling --~~~~T''' 08:35, 22 August 2007 (BST)
  4. Dupe - There are older dupes linked from that one. And it's just a bad idea. Imagine all those idiots that spam the radio having free (or greatly reduced) speech. They'd head to the nearest mall and start spouting their crap at everyone! Na, the cost is the only thing stopping our screens being spammed with (even more) useless gibberish The preceding signed comment was added by boxy (talkcontribs) at 12:12 22 August 2007 (BST)
  5. Dupe - As Boxy. This is a really common dupe. Here's another one. Before making a suggestion, check out this page. Lots of the current suggestions which are getting lots of 'Keep' votes started out here. -- Pavluk 12:37, 22 August 2007 (BST)
  6. Dupe - As above. --Saluton 15:36, 22 August 2007 (BST)
  7. Spam/Dupe - Spam, because that is what this would cause. Dupe, as above. --Druuuuu 19:08, 22 August 2007 (BST)
