20070826 Cigarettes and Smoking

FalloutGod13 07:10, 26 August 2007 (BST)

Suggestion type
Cigarette Pack Item and use thereof

Suggestion scope
This is for survivors, something of a flavor item kinda like beer but counter productive.

Suggestion description
Location :This is something that you would be able to find in regular buildings, wasteland, pubs, car parks. The places where this item would be found will never be an NT building or any kind of office, police department or fire station. Smoking is not allowed in Hospitals either, so logically this item is for the streets, pubs, junkyards, and maybe automotive places(most mechanics I know smoke a few packs a day).

Would not be able to find in resource buildings such as police stations, hospitals, ect. to clarify that point again. This is both for practical game play reasons as well as the average workplace policy most places have about cigarettes.

Effect: Originally I thought I'd suggest a useless inventory space holding item. However I realized that's not going to fly.

Instead my suggestion has been run down to an item that you can use and get a comment and possible status change to hp from. "You enjoy a few cigarettes to pass the time"

Now the fun part, 40% chance when you smoke you get a nicotine rush and feel rejuvenated. This would give you +1 health. "You smoke a bit of the pack and get a heavy rush of nicotine and feel slightly rejuvenated! You gain 1 health." 20% chance you go into a coughing fit and feel sick and lose one health. "You smoke a bit of the pack and go into a coughing fit and feel nauseated! You lose 1 health." 40% of the other time nothing happens to effect your status. "You smoke a bit of the pack."

Naturally every time you use this item there will be a 35% chance to run out of cigarettes. "You realize you are all out of smokes!" Trust me it's a reasonable chance out of pack during a zombie quarantine. I imagine it would be too easy to get carried away trying to pass the time. I believe this item will be great for role playing as well it will be somewhat of a gamble healing item.

It's a pack of cigarettes so I can't imagine it being very encumbering 1% or 2% is reasonable. It would not hold more than one slot of space.

I think that about sums up all the details. :)

Keep Votes

  1. Sure. - With the suggestion the Dupe Brigadetm linked to, you loose one health every time, in this one, there is a few things that can happen.--Labine50 MHG|MEMS 07:55, 26 August 2007 (BST)
  2. Eh. Why not? --Secruss 23:39, 26 August 2007 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. javascript:void(document.body.innerHTML.replace(/beer|wine/,"ciggarettes")) - and done, or close enough. Neither is worth the AP (and player time) it would waste. SIM Core Map.png Swiers 14:31, 26 August 2007 (BST)
  2. there were no cigarettes in fallout --~~~~T''' 15:26, 26 August 2007 (BST)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Really Dumb I ususlly dislike spam votes, but I really dislike this one. The flavor is alright, but the "Get healthier from smoking" idea sux! Also it's a Almost-Dupe of a good suggestion. Yours Truly, BoboTalkClown 01:24, 29 August 2007 (BST)
  2. Dupe - and I can't believe it got into peer reviewed! Yet another way for survivors to waste their time and health The preceding signed comment was added by boxy (talkcontribs) at 07:19 26 August 2007 (BST)
  3. Spam - Go back to NW if you want to smoke. --Sonny Corleone RRF DORIS CRF pr0n 07:21, 26 August 2007 (BST)
  4. Dupe - Please check the archives people! --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 07:45, 26 August 2007 (BST)
  5. Dupe - it has been suggested before, and passed, so it's not that you had a bad idea, but someone had this good idea first.--'BPTmz 07:55, 26 August 2007 (BST)
  6. Dupe- As above. --Saluton 15:38, 26 August 2007 (BST)
  7. Spam - This would be a gateway drug, as it were. Why stop at fags? Next people would be suggesting marijuana, coke, smack, Special K, crystal meth, etc etc etc. -- Pavluk 15:49, 26 August 2007 (BST)
  8. Dupe - Link provided above, though I also agree with Pavluk - this has potential to "snowball" --Ryiis 17:44, 26 August 2007 (BST)
  9. Spam - Not only is the effect game-mechanically broken, it's just silly. sorry... but it is... --WanYao 19:26, 26 August 2007 (BST)
  10. Spam - Flavor is good when it's just text. Flavor is bad when it clutters your searches with MORE worthless items. --Steakfish 22:42, 26 August 2007 (BST)
  11. Spam - As Steakfish and Pavluk -- Bob Fortune 01:32, 27 August 2007 (BST)
  12. Dupe - As above. - If Jedaz = 09:36, 27 August 2007 (BST) then pi = 2 + 1
RE: It's bad when people who can't read clutter up the voting process. --FalloutGod13 01:18, 27 August 2007 (BST)
Who are you RE-ing? If it's someone in particular, put it below their vote. If you're responding to every vote, which is how it looks, then that's just childish. If people don't like your suggestion, try re-thinking your idea instead of attacking them for not liking it -- Bob Fortune 01:31, 27 August 2007 (BST)
I'm not attacking anyone who doesn't like my suggestion, I'm just poking fun at the ones who don't get it. :) Like I said, people who can't, or don't want to read should not be allowed to vote. Because they essentially don't really know what they are voting on. Right? --FalloutGod13 09:21, 27 August 2007 (BST)
  13. Spam/Dupe - Spam, we already have beer which does a similar thing. Dupe, as above. --Druuuuu 20:03, 28 August 2007 (BST)
