Suggestion description
Recently, while checking my contacts list, I can see that over half are classified as 'Missing'. For my contact list, that's over 60 names that others now can't use. It must be very frustrating for a new player, having to go through name after name after name. What I'm proposing is a character deletion system, where if you click on the delete character button in your character profile, you are sent an email with a randomly generated passcode. Now you can enter the passcode in your profile to delete your account.

Once you have gone through that process, which will hopefully bring griefing down to a minimum, there are two 'endings' for each character class, based on their fluff. The selection of either ending is random.

Military: Ending 1: Flashing your Special Operations ID card, you walk through a military roadblock, dropping off all your equipment on the way. You have completed your mission, and are out of this hell of a city - now what?

Ending 2: Blasting away left and right with the weapons you have obtained in Malton, you are almost out of the roadblock, but fail to notice an antipersonnel mine on the ground. Oh well, at least you're free from the nightmares.

Scientist: Ending 1: In the dark of night, you hold on to your makeshift hang glider, and jump from a tower on the edge of Malton. As your soar through the night sky, you realize that you have left Malton behind, but it will take far longer to leave your nightmares behind...

Ending 2: You have had enough. One day, you mix a series of chemicals together, and load them into a syringe. The chemicals you have mixed will completely dissolve your brain within half an hour. You may be dead, but at least you aren't undead...

Civilian: Ending 1: Under cover of night, you jump the wall around Malton and slit the throat of the unwary sentry posted there. Throwing your bag over your shoulder, you disappear into the darkness, never to see Malton again.

Ending 2: As you fight furiously to repel a horde of zombies from your safehouse, three grab you from behind. Refusing to become one of them, you pull the pin on a grenade you found. You blow yourself into fragments so small it would take someone weeks to identify the remains...if anyone cared enough to.

Zombie: Ending 1: Staggering out of a remote sewer entrance, you look around at the unfamiliar surroundings. Smelling brains nearby, you stumble towards the smell. 'Food' is the only thought that registers in your dazed mind...

Ending 2: As you accidentally blunder into a Special Operations patrol, they shred you with a hail of automatic rifle fire. You are placed in stasis and taken to a government lab for study on how to permanently eliminate zombies. It will be a long stay...

Keep Votes

  1. Keep - You know what? I actualy quite like this one. Especialy the descriptions.--Seventythree 15:41, 14 September 2007 (BST)
  2. Author Keep
  3. Keep/Slight change - I love the descriptions! The only thing I'd change is that any character that hasn't logged in for 6 months gets deleted. --Hhal 16:01, 14 September 2007 (BST)
  4. Keep/Minor Change - Sounds good, but some of the endings need redone. Like Scientist ending 1...Why would a scientist have a hang glider? --Sonofagun18 07:05, 15 September 2007 (BST)
  5. Keep - But please don't auto delete after six months. I travel a lot and am often away for six to eight months at a time, and this would kill my characters! --Uncle Bill 08:57, 15 September 2007 (BST)
  6. Keep I'd like it more if you got a bit more of a choice between the endings though, somehow. Kalir FTW! Z/S UD Potato Words 22:15, 15 September 2007 (BST)
  7. Keep/Improve I like it, but it'd be even better to have some more/better choices for the ending. The idea of your skills/XP determining the ending would also be interesting.--James Ennis 00:00, 20 September 2007 (BST)
  8. Keep- OMG THIS IS AWESOME!!! If this is implemented, I can finally delete my retarded scientist who had dropped his DNA Extractor- and with flair, too! --Vkkhamul 20:54, 22 September 2007 (BST)
  9. Keep - This is a good way of handling character deletion with some added sense of satisfaction.--Thragnor 23:20, 23 September 2007 (BST)
  10. Keep- I like this. for my two bits, see the discussion page--Liam Degen 01:39, 25 September 2007 (BST)
  11. Keep- I like this one! If it's possible that the name of the player getting out of the city gets available for others, it's even better. But please keep the idea that the player has to get out of the city, no 'Delete Account' Button, please. --Reflow 23:22, 28 September 2007 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - Its impractial, though I like the flavour. Most poeple create an account then just stop playing after a couple of days and forget about it. They're not going to make the effort to send for an e-mail, reply and delete their account just so someone else can use their name. PLus think how annoying/griefing/irrating it would be if someone you knew turned up with the same name only it was a different person since the other person deleted their account. --MarieThe Grove on Tour 10:39, 15 September 2007 (BST)
  2. KeepI love the blurbs but have to agree that a lot of characters simply leave after a few days of being killed with no progress, they are not going to bother with this! As a way to "retire" a long standing character this has a lot of merit tho. Set a (high) target for XP and; if you reach it; the next time you log on you get a message like this! the option to waste XP on fluff would be needed so as to avoid unwilling retirement but it would give us a goal to work towards which could be satisfying! --Honestmistake 17:42, 14 September 2007 (BST)
  3. Kill - Name reuse would lead to confusion. --Pgunn 19:28, 14 September 2007 (BST)
  4. Kill - Oh yes, I can see it now, someone ends up reusing one of my old names, goes on a killing spree, then I get blamed for it. Just add numbers to names you like. Simple. Can't use "crackmonkey"? Make it "crackmonkey5000" or something. No confusion there.-- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 02:05, 15 September 2007 (BST)
  5. Kill - I don't care about name reusing, but Shadow got a point.I hope the ending is based on some factors, like, you need to have free running,a level limit and bunch of things like that. For Civilian Ending 2 it doesn't make sense if you are just inside a building with survivors and no zeds. This idea is workable;take-it-to-the-talk-page.Good luck >_^--Perne 12:17, 15 September 2007 (BST)
  6. Kill - SA made a god point there. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 14:44, 15 September 2007 (BST)
  7. Kill - The only escape option is the one where the outside military has every possible exit covered, guns you down, and throws you back into the city. All Malton residents have the zombie disease; that's why we all get up when we die, and that's why there's a quarantine in the first place.--Jiangyingzi 09:36, 19 September 2007 (BST)
  8. Kill - Totally nullifies the point of the game...you are STUCK inside Malton, you CANNOT get out. If this were activated, the majority of people would get rid of their accounts.

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. It is Kill like that first vote, but with a signature, with griefers and such. The problem that makes me Spam is this: By having players getting a 50% chance of ESCAPING Malton alive, then wouldn't it make sense roleplay-wise to just delete your character and get out of Malton rather than be stuck in this purgoratry of life and death? It makes tactical-sense to decide not to play the game and therefore live rather than go and continue playing and being stuck, always worrying. I think escape should be impossible or very very hard, because if escape is easy, you destroy the theme of Urban Dead.--ShadowScope 17:02, 14 September 2007 (BST) EDIT: Oh, and people play UD on and off. I am opposed to any automatic deletion as that could easily drive the "casual" playerbase away.--ShadowScope 17:04, 14 September 2007 (BST)
SPAM what about Pkers ? I dont wanna die those deaths.. I declare Unsigned, and no pics in votes The preceding signed comment was added by boxy (talkcontribs) at 02:29 15 September 2007 (BST)
  2. Spam - [1]. If you people used a little imagination in your names, they wouldn't be taken. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 19:10, 14 September 2007 (BST)
  3. Dupe - Deletion has been brought up many many times, It will never happen no matter how much flavor you add on, no matter what your justification may be, it will not be reviewed. Yeah this has flavor, but it's still just deletion.--Karekmaps?! 00:06, 15 September 2007 (BST)
  4. Spupe - The Spam/Dupe combo! If deleting characters was ever allowed, this would be a pretty good way to do it. However, reuse of names would lead to confusion, and character deletion makes zerging easier. Imagine somebody creating 100 level one zombies, then having them attack the barricades on a building one at a time. When the first one burns his AP, just delete him, then move the second in (since number one was deleted, the zerg flag wouldn't be tripped) and repeat this process until you break in. --Steakfish 00:54, 15 September 2007 (BST)
  5. Spam - no to delete. Read link that Midianian gave --~~~~ [Talk] 09:09, 15 September 2007 (BST)
  6. Spupe - a dupe of this, albeit with added flavour. However, it is sadly still a spamworthy idea, as Karek points out. -- Pavluk A! 15:22, 15 September 2007 (BST)
  7. Spam - No to character deletion! -- John RubinT! ZG FER 16:27, 15 September 2007 (BST)
  8. Spam - NO CHARACTER DELETION FUCKO! --Sonny Corleone RRF DORIS CRF pr0n 17:36, 15 September 2007 (BST)
  9. No - People, no need to be an a-hole just because the suggestion sucks. BoboTalkClown 20:49, 15 September 2007 (BST)
  10. DEATH TO THIS SUGGESTION! -1: greifing potential. 2: with people having a 50% chance fo escaping alive, for realism you should A: keep playing ON THE OUTSIDE and B: the zombie virus should spread outside, causing the military blockade to collapse and players to pour out to the outside world. No survivor is being let through the blockade, not the military, not anyone. --AlexanderRM 22:22, 16 September 2007 (BST)
  11. Nobody ever leaves the Village Not even to buy spam. --WanYao 05:18, 17 September 2007 (BST)
  12. Deleting accounts leaves a blank user number. Just go idle and your account dissappears. At least until you sign on again. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 22:46, 20 September 2007 (BST)
  13. Spam - No. --Druuuuu 04:15, 23 September 2007 (BST)
