20070919 Siphon Fuel

Acoustic Pie 14:09, 19 September 2007 (BST)

Suggestion type
Item/Skill.

Suggestion scope
Survivors.

Suggestion description
Ok, what i was thinking was that there ought to be an item called 'a siphon' found in junkyards and mall hardware stores (with a find rate of 2% and an encumberence of 5%) for which you can siphon fuel out of a generator thus rendering it useless.

Now this main seem like a major hit for survivors but it also has an advantage, if there is an iminent zombie threat, one could buy a skill called 'Siphoning Fuel' - allows a quater fuel to be siphoned from generators. And they could syphone off the fuel to at least save something for the future. The fuel would be called 'siphoned fuel' and only last a quater of the time that normal fuel does for the simple reason that you would spill some in the process in the heat of the moment. Thus meaning that it isn't as good of an advantage as one would have thought.

Basically this event would render a genny and transmitter almsot useless, as they are without much fuel. However it would give a temporary solution to a genny if someone needed some fuel for other buildings

These are the conditions of the siphoning:

  • Make it a 20% chance on actually siphoning the fuel (Plus you could then make another skill which would cost the same but increase the %age chance tp 35%). Bringing the message 'You attempt to siphon the fuel but can't get it out of the generator'.
  • Put the skill under zombie hunter tree and give it a 150XP price tag
  • Give a notice of who siphoned the fuel so they'd be 'told off' if found (as in a sense it is almost the same as Gking as you render a building without it's fuel). (This could be turned off in the settings).
  • Only allow someone to siphon off the fuel in the tank bringing the notice, 'the genny is low on fuel', leaving some left so that survivors who are in the building aren't completley our of the picture.
  • Only be allowed to carry one lot of siphoned fuel.
  • You can only siphon fuel if a genny has more than 'low on fuel' otherwise one could steal the fuel and make it last indefinatley. Bringing up the message: 'There isn't enough fuel for it to be worth siphoning'
  • You could use siphoned fuel to fill up a genny a little bit (which in a sense would be like changing the fuel with a fuel can, but not actually filling it fully), or use it individually on an unfueled genny.
  • The siphon pipe would have a 10 use limit before it would break.

I think this suggestion would add a new level to the game as i don't think there are many Human vs Human strategic skills/items which could be used. Also it is not better than searching for a fuel can, as it has less fuel, you can only carry one and you still have to search for the materials. That means it is balanced.

Thanks.

Keep Votes

  1. Keep - Author Vote. --Acoustic Pie 14:10, 19 September 2007 (BST)
  2. Keep - Just because i expect zombies to gain from this by attacking when the light is off, therefore when noone will be recading. - Pardus 03:44, 20 September 2007 (BST)
  3. Weak Keep - I like the general idea, but it leaves us open to griefers. However, in terms of making things "Harder for the zombies" Go have a cry! your already incredibly strong anyway and something to crotch kick you is needed. --Medico 22:32, 20 September 2007 (BST)
  4. Keep - It'd be useful to be able to take fuel from buildings where it isn't useful to buildings where it is, and not have to search for fuel. And this opens up a few more options for both sides. --ToejamStats Graph Updated 17:05, 22 September 2007 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill Put the segestion the way it was, A big change like that is against the Do's and Dont's...
  2. Kill - No turning generators on and off. People would use this to search with a genny, and then turn the lights out so they don't attract zombies. That's not fair on the horde -- boxytalk • 14:45 19 September 2007 (BST)
Right, well if you read the conditions it says that the siphoned fuel brings the notice that 'the genny is low on fuel' and no-one else can take the rest of the fuel. This means that the fuel would have to run out, or the genny be destroyed to make the lights turn off. Hence this is NOT the same as turning a genny off! --Acoustic Pie 14:52, 19 September 2007 (BST)
Right, well it's still a dog of an idea. It still allows less time to attract zombie attention, it is open to yet more griefing (fuel stealing), and a survivor buff in that you can fuel different buildings with a single fuel can. Still a no. And don't edit your suggestion after voting starts, take them to the suggestions talk page so that most of the problems are sorted out there first, and you get some idea of what the community may think to avoid most of the spamming -- boxytalk • 15:25 19 September 2007 (BST)
  3. Kill/Rework - entirely disagree with Boxy's point - in zombie movies it makes a lot of sense to turn lights off when they're not needed. Being "fair" to the zombies is generally not what's on the survivors minds - "I say, let's give them a sporting chance to eat us".. But... it would make more sense to just give generators an off switch - IRL I suspect siphoning fuel from a running generator to be dangerous and often impossible. --Pgunn 18:52, 19 September 2007 (BST)
  4. kill - unlike boxy, in principle i have no problem with being able to turn off generators. but in practice, i do... to allow one to do this would be game-breaking IMO. basically, don't drop a gennie if you're not willing or able to defend it. or, destroy it if it's causing problems. basically, you're trying to fix bad survivor organisation with a game mechanic. feh on that. --WanYao 19:17, 19 September 2007 (BST)
  5. Kill I don't want people stealing fuel from my Necrotech to power their church. --Jon Pyre 19:20, 19 September 2007 (BST)
  6. Kill - Needs work.-- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 20:29, 19 September 2007 (BST)
  7. Change - Change so that instead of siphoning from gennys you take it from busted cars or something, to fill a new item "Empty fuel can". And it becomes fuel can again after 4 fills. Something like that. BoboTalkClown 21:18, 19 September 2007 (BST)
  8. Kill - There are generally too many buildings with running generators, not too few. Besides, who needs even MORE items cluttering their searches and their encumbrance. If people aren't getting enough fuel, Kevan will tweak the find rates. --Steakfish 23:16, 19 September 2007 (BST)
  9. Kill - Cost does not equal balanced. Most experienced players have a lot more than 150 XP sitting around. What's more, PKers and GKers often only buy enough skills to benefit their activities and end up accumulating hundreds of XPs. In addition, this is way too complicated to be practical to the average survivor. Please think of the newbies. --Hhal 00:52, 20 September 2007 (BST)
  10. Kill - Badly written, Costly != Balanced. --Saluton 04:50, 20 September 2007 (BST)
  11. WK/Change - As WanYao. I'd go for the option to turn the lights on and off; the best thing of all is for a flavor change to accompany on/off, like zombies having a chance to hear survivors in nearby buildings if too many are active in the last 30 minutes, see if the lights are going on and off...But that's fodder for another to-be-flamed-to-death suggestion. --Slightly Lions 11:29, 20 September 2007 (BST)
Kill Don't make it 150XP price tag for zombie hunter, That won't make it rare. Unsigned. --ZombieSlay3rSig.pngT 14:44, 20 September 2007 (BST)
  12. Kill - needs work --~~~~ [talk] 12:47, 20 September 2007 (BST)
  13. Kill An Item called a siphon ??? you mean a hose of some sort right cause I never heard of specific tool thats used to drain liquid out of fuel cells. Also Siphoning is good but what survivor doesn't know how to take a hose and forcibly suck gasoline out of a fuel cell. Also siphoning is dangerous not to mention that when you do it you get a mouthful of gas. I just say destroy the damn generator --Johnny Reb 16:40, 20 September 2007 (BST)
  14. KILL - I've had about as much griefing as I can stand as it is--Liam Degen 01:52, 21 September 2007 (BST)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - Please, read the Suggestions Dos and Don'ts. One of the Don'ts relates to putting options in the suggestion. You have to be 100% certain what you think is the best version of your idea. --Pavluk A! E! 14:14, 19 September 2007 (BST)
  2. Spam - Decide on what we are voting on and then we can vote, unless you know what you want don't suggest it.--Karekmaps?! 14:25, 19 September 2007 (BST)
Right, i have now made it 100% certain, do i need to withdraw it for today and then put it on again tommorow? or can i leave it like it is now, changed? --Acoustic Pie 14:27, 19 September 2007 (BST)
Zomg, non-author RE! I'd take it down and put it back up tomorrow. I'd give you more time to tweak it too.--Suicidalangel 20:29, 19 September 2007 (BST) Non-author RE.--  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 22:23, 20 September 2007 (BST)
  3. Spamish -This isn't as bad (though it's bad for the same reason) as that "stealing generators" idea, but it's also much less useful.--AlexanderRM 01:14, 20 September 2007 (BST) Edit: I'm also HORRIFIED by the massive amount of editing done. Just an inch under this vote it says "Once you have posted your suggestion, it is considered complete. Altering the suggestion mechanics after voting has begun nullifies existing votes, and is considered an abuse of the suggestions system. Doing so will result in your suggestion being removed from the voting system to removed suggestions, where you can work out the details and resubmit later if you desire. It is preferred that you remove your own suggestion and resubmit a new version with changes, if changes are needed." remove this suggestion to the discussion page NOW, or a sysop will. --AlexanderRM 22:40, 27 September 2007 (BST)
