20071015 Grenades

Suggestion description
Here's an idea for a single use weapon. Grenades would provide respectful but not excessive damage, and due to their wide area of damage start with higher accuracy. They would harm individual targets (no AOE).

There would be two kinds. Stun grenades (found in Police Departments at 2% and Armories at 1%) and ordinary kaboom grenades found only in armories at 1%.

Both kinds would start at 25% accuracy. There would be a thrown weapons skill that would double it to 50%.
Stun Grenades would deal 5 damage.
Explosive Grenades would deal 10 damage.

So this is pretty great damage for a newbie, and not that bad for even a maxed out old timer. They're harder to find than a pistol clip (in PDs at 7%) and only give you the one shot as opposed to five, and max at 50% accuracy while guns can go up to 65%. But it'd be pretty nice to find a 10 damage weapon with 25% accuracy at low levels, and there would be no need for a gun or loading.

This weapon is similar enough to the pistol or shotgun that it won't radically alter the game, and I personally would always take a loaded shotgun over two grenades for obvious % reasons. But since you'd be finding these randomly you'd be happy to use them when they come along.

I just think it'd be interesting to have a new weapon. Variety is the spice of life, and this is a simple way of providing a simple boost to variety.

Keep Votes

  1. Simple A little bit of newness to keep things fresh. --Jon Pyre 16:30, 15 October 2007 (BST)
  2. Intriguing - could fill a niche if they are very low encumberance. --Karloth Vois RR 18:43, 15 October 2007 (BST)
  3. Conditional Keep - As long as you change "kaboom grenade" to "HE grenade", I'll be happy. --Hhal 18:49, 15 October 2007 (BST)
    • Re That was just colorful phrasing, not what they'd be called. The actual item would just be "grenade". --Jon Pyre 18:53, 15 October 2007 (BST)
  4. Sure. --Labine50 MEMS | MHG 21:44, 15 October 2007 (BST)
  5. Keep/Change The ideas good...but it needs alot of fine tuning....i myself once had an idea for a sniper rifle...only usable in tall building...high power...but still, tweak it up a bit, it seems like it would create heaven for a PKr arson gang......and how much damage would it do to machinery? 15.10.07 Captain Neo 'Zombie Ahoy!'
  6. Keep A little surprise once in 1 hundred searchs, I like it. Rebel147 03:32, 16 October 2007 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - Grenades are AoE weapons. Making them non-AoE is a bit weird. I think one-use weapons (in addition to the flare) would be interesting, but just not grenades. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 17:11, 15 October 2007 (BST)
  2. Kill - As Midi, and it's too similar to shotguns anyway. Glenstone 17:30, 15 October 2007 (BST)
  3. Kill - Only because REAL vikings don't eat spam. But seriously, this is a rather pointless weapon that fills no empty niche, offers nothing significant in the way of fun or game play... nothing. "This weapon is similar enough to the pistol or shotgun".... EXACTLY! A good AoE suggestion would have been FAR better than this, sorry. --WanYao 18:43, 15 October 2007 (BST)
  4. Kill - Mmm too similar to shottys. Having a grenade that isn't AoE is odd and a bit out of genre. The only movie I've seen a grenade being used in is Resident Evil: Apocalypse and that wasn't really a good movie.--  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 19:03, 15 October 2007 (BST)
  5. Kill - -- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 20:01, 15 October 2007 (BST)
  6. Kill - Actually, I'd like to see AoE damage but have it limited to, say 10 people. Frag grenade would be a better name for 'kaboom' and I think the damage should be a bit higher. --ZombieSlay3rSig.pngT 20:34, 15 October 2007 (BST)
  7. Kill - Good, well put togeater suggestion, I just don't like it. One of the better grenade suggestions though. BoboTalkClown 21:34, 15 October 2007 (BST)
  8. Kill - having the 'kaboom' grenades only found in armouries will just reward the troglodytes that are currently crammed into Creedy. Also, having a grenade without AoE damage just doesn't seem right, especially at 50% accuracy. --Pavluk A! E! 22:01, 15 October 2007 (BST)
  9. Kill - For all the reasons stated above. -J. A. 23:15, 15 October 2007 (BST)
  10. Kill - Good stab at making a workable grenade suggestion, but that's all it is I'm afraid. --SeventythreeTalk 00:09, 16 October 2007 (BST)
  11. Kill- How are grenades NOT AoE??! --Vkkhamul 01:09, 16 October 2007 (BST)
  12. kill Grenades that only hurt one target ?? thats unheard of. Grenades are meant to take out Multiple foes. You toss a Grenade in a hospital you wont just wound one person you will wound 5 or 10 people. This suggestion inaccurate to the game due to the fact a grenade wouldn't hurt just a targeted individual it would or should hurt multiple people--Johnny Reb 02:16, 16 October 2007 (BST)
  13. kill we can't find military issue assault rifles, but we can find grenades? that and their already is a molotov cocktail PR_Weapon#Molotov_Cocktails in the peer revivewed, and pretty much fits the need for a grenade type weapon--Zach016 02:25, 16 October 2007 (BST)
  14. I like the idea of AoE weapons but, as Midianian said, this is weird to make it not that. Also, the damage and hit probably are way too high. Ironically I think, a high hit percent my actually be ok for AoE, but not here. I don't think the stun grenade should really even do damage. Maybe have a hit penalty or something instead.--Pesatyel 03:15, 16 October 2007 (BST)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Dupe - And I so wish you could get a VB escalation for something like this but it's not funny just crap.--Karekmaps?! 16:32, 15 October 2007 (BST)
    • Re I am sure there have been numerous Grenade suggestions in the past but I don't recall any making them a simple 1 use attack, normally they're some complicated area effect. Plus the accuracy and damage feel pretty modest and balanced compared to past suggestions. Do you have a link? --Jon Pyre 16:42, 15 October 2007 (BST)
  2. Incomplete. Where's the "Encumbrance" rating? How many grenades you can have can very well affect potential damage. Also, 2.5 damage/AP for the Stun and 5 damage/AP for the Explosive? Too high IMHO.--ShadowScope 17:30, 15 October 2007 (BST)
    • Re Its's less than firearms... As for encumbrance, probably making them the same weight as a gun would make sense. --Jon Pyre 18:32, 15 October 2007 (BST)
  3. Spam - On two counts: first that its inclusion eats into the "found nothing" section of the search chart, and therefore would be powering up survivors that don't need it. Second on that it is not a complete suggestion- you need to add encumbrance. Revise please. --Karlsbad 20:23, 15 October 2007 (BST)
  4. Spam - Expand on the crappy weapons we have alreay not make more crappy ones. Sockem 20:24, 15 October 2007 (BST)
  5. Spam - This is unnecessary and utterly illogical. --The Hierophant 21:27, 15 October 2007 (BST)
  6. Spam - it's been a while since I spammed a JP suggestion. Really - what use is the Spam vote these days, anyway? Oh, and non-AOE grenade? How does that work, then? I know why you're doing that, because it would be auto-spam if you tried for an AOE weapon, but - dude - it just doesn't make sense. Not RP, not GP, so QED, it's RIP from FS, JP. --Funt Solo Scotland flag.JPG 23:04, 15 October 2007 (BST)
  7. Spam - As Funt and Karlsbad, except instead of revise, please salt and burn this idea so it can harm no other innocent voters. --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 23:06, 15 October 2007 (BST)
  8. Super Spam - It's incomplete (no encumbrance). It includes about 3 different ideas (2 items, 1 skill). It's another worthless weapon that everyone will discard once they have gun and axe skills. --Steakfish 23:54, 15 October 2007 (BST)
