Suggestion description
A new scientist skill called Observation. This would allow you observe one of three different event-groups that you can't normally see. Only the observer would be able to see them, so there would be absolutely no spam for those who don't want it. All of the groups would require a skill in addition to Observation. There would be a button "Observe" with a dropdown-list containing the following choices (provided you have the correct skills). None of these would give you the names or profiles of zombies.

You get notifications when the level of barricades changes, like from loosely to lightly barricaded, very strongly to quite strongly and so on. If both you and the (de-)barricader are on the same side of barricades, you see who did it.
You see every attack and fix on generators and radios, and who did it. You also see if someone changes the channel of the radio.
You'd see anyone who sprayed graffitis, and what they wrote.

There would be an initial cost of 4 AP to find a place where you can see everything you need. The observer's AP regeneration rate would be halved (to 1 AP per hour) during observation, because of the attention required to notice any and all changes. One "activation" of the skill would last 8 hours. The block description message would show (to those with this skill) how many people are currently observing the block.

During observation, the "Observe" button would change to "Stop observing". If anyone attacked the observer, their concentration would be broken. Any action taken by the observer would also break it. Once the concentration is broken, the AP regen rate would go back to normal.

Clarification: It's in the science-skills tree and costs the same as all science skills. The other skills (Construction, Radio Operation and Tagging) aren't required for buying the skill, but are required for observing the events of that group. Example: If you have Observation and Construction (no Radio Operation or Tagging), then you can only observe the barricades.

Keep Votes

  1. Keep/Change I like it... Can there be a "Cancel Observation" option? --Secruss 18:49, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
    Added it. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 18:55, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

  3. Weak Keep and change - I'm really not sure about this but I guess it couldn't do any harm. It should also be a civilian skill.Studoku 19:17, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
  4. Weak keep - ok --~~~~ [talk] 19:56, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
  5. Keep - But as Whitehouse said, we need more info about this skill. --Pvt De 19:58, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
  6. Changed to hesitant keep Thought about it, I want to see this in-game, but I feel it should only appear available for purchase once you have one of the three mentioned skills. - Whitehouse 21:11, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
  7. Keep - Bleh. Glenstone 23:22, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
  8. Keep - Because scientists need more skills. BoboTalkClown 23:31, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
  9. Keep. sure. --Pgunn 00:01, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - I don't like it. --The Hierophant 18:53, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
  2. Kill - Meh.-- dǝǝɥs ɯɐds: sʎɐʍ1ɐ! 19:02, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
Which tree will it go under (you say it is a scientist skill but none of the the required skills are in the scientist skill list)? How much does the skill cost? Would it not be better as three individual skills each as subskill of the three listed required skills? - Whitehouse 19:38, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
  3. Kill As Whitehouse. Sockem 20:02, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
  4. Kill _ Certain levels of anonymity should be secure.--SeventythreeTalk 20:05, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - I don't really like voting Spam, and it may seem quite unjustified in this case. So I will try to explain. a) It is very illogical for this to be part of Scientist skill tree. Makes more sense as either a civilian skill, or even something Military personell would learn. b) It subtley opens the door for mutil-abuse... I can set up a zerg scout, track everything that goes on and anyone who goes through... then log in with my main alt and do some nasty damage. Gad, combine this with DEMON tand... ouch. c) Slowing down my AP regeneration rate does not wash... taht also just encourages the zerging tactics described in b). I think that's enough... and taken together, I think this justifies my Spam vote: i.e., the sum total of the effects of this suggestion are IMO rather broken, and go against the basic principles of the game. --WanYao 21:09, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
  2. Spam - anything that's so powerful it requires a cost of 4-12AP, is probably overpowered. You place great store in the limits (you must have all these skills!), but many, many players now have 1000s of XP, so they're not going to care. Plus, it doesn't make any roleplay sense at all. Why would anyone need any skill just to observe stuff. Clearly, the reason that we can't all currently choose to see that stuff must be gameplay. So, this breaks that. And it encourages zerging. I can't think of anything good about this. --Funt Solo Scotland flag.JPG 22:08, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
  3. Beat it - They told him don't you ever come around here. Don't wanna see your face, you better disappear. The fire's in their eyes and their words are really clear. So beat it, just beat it. You better run, you better do what you can. Don't wanna see no blood, don't be a macho man. You wanna be tough, better do what you can. So beat it, but you wanna be bad. Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it. No one wants to be defeated. Showin' how funky and strong is your fight. It doesn't matter who's wrong or right. Just beat it, beat it. Just beat it, beat it. Just beat it, beat it. They're out to get you, better leave while you can. Don't wanna be a boy, you wanna be a man. You wanna stay alive, better do what you can. So beat it, just beat it. You have to show them that you're really not scared. You're playin' with your life, this ain't no truth or dare. They'll kick you, then they beat you, Then they'll tell you it's fair. So beat it, but you wanna be bad. Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it. No one wants to be defeated. Showin' how funky and strong is your fight. It doesn't matter who's wrong or right. Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it. No one wants to be defeated. Showin' how funky and strong is your fight. It doesn't matter who's wrong or right. Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it. No one wants to be defeated. Showin' how funky and strong is your fight. It doesn't matter who's wrong or right. Just beat it, beat it. Beat it, beat it, beat it. --Sonny Corleone RRF DORIS CRF pr0n 23:49, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
  4. Spam - Suggested and rejected as well, but i cant be bothered to dig up any of the hundreds of dupes. This is just another tool that will let trenchies force everyone to play the game their way or get a bullet. No thanks, i like diversity. --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 23:53, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
