[edit] 20071203 Infection?

SeventythreeTalk 16:25, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Suggestion type
Skill name change, flavour edit.

Suggestion scope
Everyone, I guess.

Suggestion description
To begin with, I'd like to say that I like the idea of infection. Its very much in genre and I would love to see a good infection suggestion implemented. This, however isn't it. In no way am I suggesting changing the actual in-game effects of the infection skill and infection itself. I merely wish to change the name and flavour of it to something a little more fitting

The name infection has never realy sat right with me. The actual ingame effects of being infected don't feel realsiticly like an infection. I mean, whoever heard of a FAK comprising of no (In my experiance) antibiotics being used to clear up an infection? If anyone wants to get in touch with me about creating a viable infection skill, then feel free to drop me a line on my talkpage, becasue I would love to see a proper infection suggestion implemented.

My suggestion is this: We change the "Infection" skill and effects to "serious wound". Instead of giving the survivor you've just bitten a case of the nasty zombie flu, you use your jagged teeth and unnatural strength to rip through their skin and sever vital veins, causing them to loose 1 HP per go, in exactly the same way infection works now. Some ideas for the new names/flavours relating to this new skill:

  • Savage bite - Replaces infectious bite
  • (when a zombie bites you with savage bite) A zombie bit you for X points of damage! The bite tore through one of your veins and you are now bleeding severely
  • (when you attempt an action that would result in HP loss under infection) You lose 1HP from serious blood loss
  • (when you heal somebody up and staunch the bleeding)You used a FAK on xxx. you healed them for X points of damage and bandaged their heavy wounds. They are no longer bleeding so badly

I do not wish to change any game mechanics that to this date revolve around infection, merely the name of the skill, the name of the effect and some of the related flavour.

  8. Keep - S'all good, nice suggestion. Also Killers, in practically every zombie film the zombie takes a massive chunk out of the arm or whatever with various parts with it, so this makes sense and there's still an infection. It's not like a bad drug related disease, a zombie isn't exactly going to stick a needle in you and run off in hysterics, it's gonna rip into your flesh and have some chianti and fava beans. Acoustic Pie 21:11, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
  9. Keep - Howabout then, we have some decent infection flavor. BoboTalkClown 21:24, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

  11. Keep - I see where you are taking that. And I like it. At the moment Infection does not look at all like infection from zombie movies. -- John RubinT! ZG FER 21:51, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
  12. Keep - The current iteration never felt like an infection to me. A good real zombie infection would be better than this 1AP leak. Besides, you zombify WITHOUT an infection, too. Doesn't make sense.--Druuuuu 22:20, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

  20. Keep I agree. Anti-biotics would have to be used to clean out infections and to me, keeping it the way it is now just doesn't make sense. --Blanemcc 19:05, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

  2. Weak kill - As above.Studoku 17:02, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
  3. Kill A zombie bite turning the victim into a zombie is one of the classic motifs in the genre. I don't want to replace that with a generic serious wound. --Jon Pyre 17:58, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

  7. Kill- like it as is, it isn't your normal infection, and FAK's can be added to. Whoever heard of bring able to stay alive forever from zombie beatings off of FAk's --Zach016 23:18, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

  9. Kill - Fine how it is. And realism can't be an argument for something that makes no scientific sense in a zombie apocolypse. -- AHLGTH 01:55, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

  14. Kill - Fine as is. You get rid of gangrene by amputating the offending limb... What's wrong with getting rid of a zombie infection by snipping out bits of black, bubbling flesh? See! Not all infections require antibiotics! :P Anyway, if the infection DID require antibiotics, who says survivors aren't smart enough to add them to the FAKs that they *assemble themselves*? Nice effort, though. --Ms.Panes 12:38, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your vote, you've given me an idea, of sorts. Not sure how I'm going to work it out yet... But thanks!--SeventythreeTalk 13:00, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
  15. Kill - A change for no reason. Provides no benefit to the game. -- Rutherford 15:47, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
  16. Kill - I'd rather see the effects of Infection changed to fit the name (and make the skill less useless) than see the name changed to fit the effects. --Mister Nathan Marbles 22:23, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
