20071208 Drop Items while asleep
Shrapnelwolf 06:17, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
Suggestion type
Slight improvement.
Suggestion scope
Survivors who like to end their day by searching.
Suggestion description
How many times has this happened to you? You only have a few AP left, so you head back to your safehouse. Let's say you've set up base in a mall, like I have. With a few AP left, I usually like to search for items to use upon my next login, and you might too. However, you get some item that is useless to you (i.e. a DNA extractor when you already have one, a generator when you have nowhere to put it, etc). Now as you know, dropping items takes no AP in the first place, so why not allow players to do it when they have no AP left? It seems slightly arbitrary to force players to wait half an hour (at least) to do something that takes no AP.
The only problem I see is that of explaining this in character, because of course your character is asleep when you have no more AP left. My suggestion is that the flavor text be something to the effect of: "You rouse yourself from your slumber for a minute, take *item name* out, and toss it on the floor, then go back to sleep."

- The whole reason for the sleep page is likely to reduce server load. There is really no need for this; it costs 0 AP, so just do it when you log in next time. Also, you in fact CAN drop items while sleeping, using the Items internal codes and a bit of URL crafting- try http://www.urbandead.com/map.cgi?drop=ITEM_CODE and see what happens. The real issue is you can't check out your inventory- which rather makes sense, given that you are "asleep".

- Also, you can go into your settings and toggle certain items on/off. For example, if I already have a spray can but I'm looking for fuel, I can uncheck the box and presto, problem solved. --Uncle Bill 06:50, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

- Kill- As above. Also, dropping items isn't "free," it costs an IP hit. --Darth LumisT! A! E! SR 20:55, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- Kill - Makes no sense. When you're asleep, you're asleep. --Waterspark2 04:54 p.m., 8 December 2007 (EST)
- Kill - Doesn't have an AP cost to drop stuff, so who cares? --Howard Bentley 23:11, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- Kill - I understand your point, but... I mean, you can't even see what building you're in or how much health you have while you're sleeping. I think the point of being asleep is that you're not *supposed* to do anything/see anything. It seems these minor irritations are intentional for some game-related reason. Like, you use your last action point to wind up in a building- you have no idea if it's full of zombies, people... until you wake up. --Ms.Panes 09:52, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
- Kill - Just check your settings and toggle certain items on/off. --the wallaby♥ 12:30, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

- Kill - I regularly sort out my stuff while I'm....oh, wait, I'm too busy SLEEPING! Iscariot 15:23, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- kill - pointless... just drop it later. once you're passed out, you're passed out... this is unnecessary and goies against the whole point of ap ticking and limits..... --WanYao 16:15, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
