20071217 Bigger Numbers

Suggestion scope
Everyone, Everything

Suggestion description
I mean exactly what I'm saying. Just add a zero to the end of any number related to HP (and XP) currently in the game. (This means 500HP total, 100HP damage from a shotgun, skills cost 1000, 1500, and 750, ect) Why? Mainly because it would make it much easier to add new items, attacks, and such. As it stand now, changing one point of damage for an attack is completely game breaking. That makes it really hard to change things. With that kind of rigid structure, I feel like Urban Dead could become a stagnant, boring game.

This suggestion doesn't do much on it's own, but if implemented it opens up a lot of room for future changes.

Keep Votes

  1. Keep Urban Dead is a rigidly structured and increasinly boring game. If Kevan ever wants to make numerous additions this is something for him to consider using. No point until then. Call this keep highly conditional. --Jon Pyre 18:48, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  2. Keep - Maybe some decent items could be suggested if we use this--CorndogheroT-S-Z 18:53, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  3. Keep/Change No one seems to vote for their own suggestions these days. Are we no longer allowed? As long as AP stays in the current system then this makes no changes to the game I can think of, but allows more fine tuning, say making infecting more deadly with 15hp per Ap, rather than 10ap (Under new system) I muchly prefer the doubling system below.--Rosslessness 18:54, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  4. Keep/Change - I support it in spirit, if not in actual mechanics. I would prefer just doubling the numbers more than adding a 0. (ie 100/120 HP, 20dmg shotguns, 10dmg pistols, 6/8 dmg claw/bite, etc). A conditional keep, as Jon said. --Druuuuu OcTRR 18:55, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  5. Keep - meh.--'BPTmz 20:30, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  6. Change - double it, as Druuuuuu(uuuuuuu-lllaaaaaa - the chances of anything coming from Mars, were a million to one, he said). --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 21:46, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  7. Change- I'd go with multiplying by 5 but that's just me.Studoku 00:01, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
  8. Keep/Change as Druuuuu. --BlobdudeTalk TM MC 00:03, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
  9. Keep for later If there comes along a great little suggestion, and this is necessary, why the heck not? --The Trichloroethane Potato SGP E! RQ! Winner 1! 01:24, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
  10. Keep- Meh. I don't mind. --Darth LumisT! A! E! SR 01:47, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
  11. Change - Cautious keep from me, but not a bad idea - Urban Dead never felt future-proofed to me. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 07:39, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
  12. Keep - I like it! Doubling, tripling, x5ing, x10ing. Any of them would be great. - Grant 09:50, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
  13. Keep - If the game is going to continue to grow, I think a change like this is necessary. x10 is probably overkill (x2 or x5 would be better) but it is acceptable. --Beauxdeigh 18:19, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - Why? This isn't Yugioh.--  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 18:44, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
(That was quick) Why? I stated why, clearly. It gives people (Read: Kevan/People writing suggestions) more room to work with. --LumiReaver 18:47, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I see what your getting at. But I don't liek teh big numberz. :'( --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 18:50, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  2. Kill - I've always disliked games that have trailing zeros for no good reason. If Kevan wants to add more weapons, etc. to the game, then he can add the zeros then. For now it serves no purpose. --FrozenFlame 18:55, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
It's a psychology-kinda thing. If the numbers aren't big enough, people wouldn't be inspired to come up with new stuff to fill in the gaps. ~AriedartinTalkA KS J abt all 18:54, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
  3. Change I really don't like the idea, but i will remain neutral (no vote at all) on the doubled numbers. - Pardus 19:13, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  4. Kill - Nah, I'm fine with the current number system.--GunFox13 19:29, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  5. IMA CHARGIN MAH LAZER - Sorry about that.. hehe.. anyhow, I don't think the current level of granularity is bad. If it must change, I like Druuuuu's suggestion for doubling them more above - 100/120 or 50/60 HP are numbers I like thinking about more than 500/600. --Pgunn 19:55, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
I'd be cool with Druuuuu's idea, but it only increases the room to play around by a little. Instead of getting 10 points to play around with, you're only getting two. If anything, though I'd prefer it over nothing. --LumiReaver 20:31, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  6. Final Fantasy: UD - If you were to remove this for a revision and go with Druuuuu's idea of doubling rather than adding a zero, then I would vote for something like that. 600 HP reminds me of Final Fantasy... --Ryiis 20:36, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  7. Pointless - Just have decimals. Make that acceptable. BoboTalkClown 22:44, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Arr, same thing. Check the discussion page. --LumiReaver 22:49, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  8. Change - As Druuuuu. -- John RubinT! ZG FER 21:26, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  9. Slaughter - Ahhh... no, no. I mean, what would that actually do? Everything would still be the same, but only increased by a zero. -J. A. 00:11, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
No it wouldn't, please read more. --LumiReaver 00:27, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
  10. Kill - As above. --Z. slay3r Talk  00:18, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
  11. Kill -It might open up new suggestions, but i don't like. --Bring The Pain!Anti Gorefest5Fight The Pain!TMW!B! 00:56, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
  12. Creating finer gradations of value won't make the game more interesting, nor will the resulting suggestions be interesting. However, it WILL add complexity to the game and volume to the suggestions page. SIM Core Map.png Swiers 02:32, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
  13. Change - That is teh pwnz. Can we settle for something less, like doubling, instead? 100HP seems to be a precedent. ~AriedartinTalkA KS J abt all 16:41, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
  14. kill - pointless, and all those zeroes are VERY annoying. if a new mechanic can't fit into the game as it is, then it bears skepticism... --WanYao 10:02, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
  15. Kill - Sounds stupid. --Downinflames 19:00, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

Spam/Dupe - it's definitely a dupe, but I'm not searching Peer Rejected for it. Unless you can provide a specific example case in which this would improve the game, then I'm out. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 20:22, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
It's hard to provide an example where this would improve the game because this doesn't directly change it. The whole point is to make more room for future changes. I do have a few ideas that could take advantage of this, however. I'll go ahead and put them in the discussion page, but please keep in mind that they don't necessarily come with the package, okay? I swear if I see a kill vote saying something like "No cloth armor" after I mention that that it's not related I'll kill some babies. --LumiReaver 20:31, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Okay - changed my vote. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 21:46, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
  1. This looks humorous... --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 00:02, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
And how is that? I think you're mistaken as to the intention of this suggestion. --LumiReaver 00:28, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
For one thing...A shotgun causing 100 points of damage? That seems a little crazy, doesn't it? Besides, the current system is fine the way it is. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 21:02, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, the thing is, the point is to inflate the numbers, so that there's more room to develop in between. That's 100 points of damage from a shot gun, true, but you've got 500 points total. In other words, it's pretty much the same thing, but with more room for future development. Anyway I think I might pull this in favor of multiplying everything by five. Doubling is cool, and all, but that's still not much more room than is already available, and not many people like multiplying it by ten. I'd like some more discussion, if that's not too much to ask for. --LumiReaver 13:51, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
    One RE per vote. And don't ask if I read it. It's more then likely I didn't. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 14:42, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
  2. Spam - Pointless, there is no reason for this suggestion to exist at all.--Karekmaps?! 00:35, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
