20071222 Heliport

Rosslessness 12:00, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

Suggestion type
New Location.

Suggestion scope
The good people of Vinetown, and if the concept is sound people in other suburbs.

Suggestion description
In the days before the outbreak this was a base for the fuelling and repairing of corporate helicopters. It was used by pop stars, businessmen and the numerous news channels in Malton. It is a single story building, whith landing pads on the roof, overshadowed by a tall control tower.

Location

The 3 block area of Vinetown including 88,61 89,61 and 89,62. Currently all wastelands.

They would be replaced by the heliport, a large building with the following layout. All blocks have doors and the control tower is a tall structure.

New Heliport.JPG

Search Items

Heliport: Fuel Cans 4%, Toolboxes 2%, Newspapers 2%, Spray Cans 2%

Control Tower: Radios, Binoculars, Newspapers. All 2%

Clothing

Leather Flying Jackets, Flying goggles, Aviator Sunglasses, Long Scarves, Helmet, Flight Suit

Other Game Effects. Whenever powered, all players within the control tower can hear the external military broadcasts, as they are played through the facilities air traffic control unit. A radio transmitter can not be hooked up in the control tower, If this is attempted you expend 1 AP and receive the following message .”Setting up a transmitter here would interfere with the equipment already in place.”

If the concept is approvable I would imagine a few othe Heliports in Malton, but I would suggest these locations later.

The following is just flavour description, and you dont really need to read it to vote.

External Heliport: Above you towers Malton’s Heliport. The concrete walls are cracked in several places. A helicopter is wedged in place where it crashed, its cockpit inside the building.

Internal Heliport: You are inside Malton’s Heliport. Pieces of twisted machinery and rusting helicopters litter the landing pads. There is no way you can be airlifted out.

External Control Tower Unpowered You are standing outside the control tower for the Malton Helipad. The grey imposing building casts a dark shadow over the streets below. High up overhead, the charred wreckage of a helicopter hangs precariously out of a huge jagged hole in the wall that it created.

External Control Tower Powered You are standing outside the control tower for the Malton Helipad, a tall imposing building. A smashed helicopter hangs precariously from a high up jagged hole. Red lights wink on and off on the tall electronics tower and the air hums with the static of badly tuned radio broadcasts.

Internal Control Tower Unpowered Looking out across the heliport you see a number of derelict helicopters, around you radar screens and equipment lie still under thick plastic sheeting.

Internal Control Tower Powered Looking out across the heliport you see a number of derelict helicopters, around you radar screens beep and equipment scans quietly searching for flying objects.

  2. Keep - not a bad bit of flavor, mixed with limited usefulness (external military updates) -- boxy talki 12:33 22 December 2007 (BST)
  3. Keep - I especialy like the addition of the aviation goggles and scarves and such. This suggestion combines great flavour with a certain tactical usefulness.--SeventythreeTalk 13:12, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
  4. Keep - Because I like it. And to Wan Yao, Heliports do exist (google is my friend :p), also we do have a few mansions in Malton (so obviously some rich people). - Whitehouse 13:20, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
  5. Keep - sounds solid. -the wallaby 13:26, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
  6. Keep - I rarely vote keep on flavor suggestions, however I'm going to make an exception here. Everything looks fairly well thought out. Cheers --Ryiis 13:29, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
RE:Cheers, have an 80's suggestion themed quote. "I have the need, the need FOR SPEED"--Rosslessness 13:36, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
  7. Keep/Proviso - I'm all for new buildings / terraforming, but Vinetown, and wasteland replacement? Vinetown's already got a Mall and a Cathedral - there are plenty of 'burbs that have no feature buildings at all, so I'd think it would be better placed in one of those. And, I think, rather than replace outdoor locations with indoor, it's a better idea to replace like with like. But still, you get the Keep. It's got goggles and scarves, after all. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 13:33, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
  8. Keep - As duh Funt. BoboTalkClown 14:07, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
  9. very strong keep - I love the idea, another place for zombies to wreck! =)--Worthog117 15:34, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
  10. Keep/change - love the idea, but maybe a different location?--CorndogheroT-S-Z 15:45, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
RE Sure. Any suggestions on that welcomed. Use the talk page for this suggestion.--Rosslessness 15:48, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
  11. Keep/Change - A different location, perhaps, as with the previous comments? ~AriedartinTalkA KS J abt all 16:20, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

  13. Keep/Change - Vinetown? Umm, Vinetown already has a Cathedral and a Mall. Maybe a suburb with nothing. And MORE in Vinetown? I'm guessing you like your suburb (being Vinetown). But the idea is good--Officer 123satsitx 17:21, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
RE I love Vinetown. None of the pesky necrotechs or fire stations, only one hospital. Its ACE! --Rosslessness 17:33, 22 December 2007 (UTC)Just worked out what you meant. I meant more in Malton not Vinetown. Is it too late to change?--Rosslessness 19:35, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
  14. Keep - Not in Vinetown, but otherwise good. --Heretic144 17:29, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
  15. Keep Good suggestion, it adds flavour to Malton, heliports would appear in cities. --Josh508 20:31, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
  16. Keep - Neat idea. Ideally we'll pretend it was there all along -- building a new heliport in present times wouldn't make sense unless the military stormed in to do it. --Pgunn 20:51, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
  17. Keep - Meh.--'BPTmz 20:55, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
  18. Keep - I would prefer to see this implemented as part of an airport, but really anything to make the Malton infrastructure a little more interesting is fine with me. --PdeqTalk* 21:27, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
  19. Keep Good idea. I suggest making it an all purpose airport though, and maybe make the landing area a line of four squares. --Jon Pyre 22:58, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
  20. Keep - Sounds fun, but there should be a pilot's liscense clothing option. --Bring The Pain!Anti Gorefest5Fight The Pain!TMW!B! 23:27, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

  26. Keep - What could be more in theme than making a run for the helicoptor, only to find it's not there? Awesome flavor, and a tall building where you can find binoculars. Way cool. --Uncle Bill 03:13, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

  45. Keep - Great idea, but I'm not sure about a heliport. Possibly an airport or hanger? I don't know how often you see heliports around in cities. --ChrisForelle 19:25, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. kill - sorry, but this concept just doesn't make sense to me. an airport makes sense to me, but this doesn't. maybe i'm sheltered or something, but i have never seen this kind of structure in real life -- i have seen helicopter hangars at airports, and I have seen small outdoor pads with a couple of choppers tied down to resist the wind... and of course landing pads on roofs... but not this kind of thing... Besides, Malton does not strike me as a city of the rich and famous... I'd expect cops and paramedics and traffic reporters to have helicopters, but not many others. --WanYao 12:26, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
Ive never seen such an apologetic kill. Thanks for the feedback.--Rosslessness 12:42, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
  2. Kill - Terraforming sucks. Oh, and there's a suburb with two cell towers, it'd be better to do something with that then to make a totally new building.--Karekmaps?! 20:43, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
Weak Kill - But then we can all fly out of Malton! Those military peoples might pick us up. But then we might spread the virus.... --  AHLGTG 20:55, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
RE You are inside Malton’s Heliport. Pieces of twisted machinery and rusting helicopters litter the landing pads. There is no way you can be airlifted out. This is what the desciptive text was designed to stop--Rosslessness 21:10, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
But then people are going to wonder why the can't fix it with a toolbox. Still, I suppose there is some possibility that this could lead to other things, the virus escaping the city etc. Think of this as an abstain vote that leans a bit to the kill side. --  AHLGTG 21:17, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
    I am now thinking that.--Rosslessness 21:18, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
Maybe the description could be You are inside Malton's heliport. Pieces of twisted machinery pieces litter the landing pad. There haven't been helicopters here since the outbreak. You know, have some backstory of all the choppers having been destroyed by the Military (Honestly, if there was only one heliport in an entire city, I think that it would be one of the first things sorted out by the military) When a generator is on You hear a faint recorded announcment. It talks about all the helicopters being taken away by the government. This is a well thought out idea, and thus, I shall vote. Anyway, makes sense. The military drops in supplies for the people in the city (Think about it. How are we getting food? I really doubt that the malls had enough stockpiled for two years. And the military helicopters that come about 4 times a year wouldn't be able to carry enough)--Normal PhobicC 09:01, 28 December 2007 (UTC) --striking non-author re: and moving to talk page --Ryiis 17:14, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
