20080105 Tell New Zombies Which Buildings Don't Have Doors

Suggestion type
Starting Info/Interface

Suggestion scope
New Zombies

Suggestion description
Basically, when you're first a zombie, it should tell you which buildings don't have doors. Reading the wiki, it seems junkyards, churches, and cathedrals are the only ones. As such it should say something along the lines of, "Until you get the Memories of Life skill, you can find/wait for a door to be opened by another zombie, or you can attack junkyards, churches, and cathedrals, which don't have doors." This would be part of the starting info you get, like where it tells you to listen to feeding groans and such.

If there are ANY junkyards in Malton that still have uncut fences, it should say: "Until you get the Memories of Life skill, you can find/wait for a door to be opened by another zombie, or you can attack churches, cathedrals, and junkyards (with cut fences), which don't have doors."

Also, it should give you the same info again the first time you break a barricade to the doors ie, from loosely (if you don't have MoL yet). You can't get in anyway, so you'll have time to read it, and it's a very helpful reminder for when you're just about to get frustrated with the game.

I put the types of building in bold, because that's the most important part for a zombie to notice/remember. Also, if anyone prefers a different wording, go ahead and stick that in your vote. I like how it reads, but whatever.

Kill Votes

  1. Weak Kill - Seems like maybe this is more fun to discover on one's own. --Pgunn 01:36, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
Kill/Change - The way it's worded, it's effectively telling the newbie zombies "stay away from buildings that aren't cathedrals, junkyards and churches at all costs until you get MoL!", without telling them that zombies with MoL could open the doors with them to get to the survivors inside. Correct me if the starting info does actually state this, though. ~AriedartinTalkA KS J abt all 10:05, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
RE: The part where it says, "you can find/wait for a door to be opened by another zombie" is supposed to deter people from thinking you have to attack cathedrals, junkyards, and churches, and must avoid all else.
I'm trying to give new zombies these three pieces of information without being too verbose or unclear: 1. You need Memories of Life in order to open doors. 2. If you destroy a barricade, but doors are in the way, you could wait for another zombie to open the door so that you can get in. If you don't want to wait, you can find a door that's already open. 3. Junkyards, Cathedrals, and Churches don't have doors. If you destroy the barricades there you can get in, even without MoL.
Number 3 is really the most important part, because it's not obvious, but I figured that 1 and 2 were needed to make things clear/prevent confusion. Now, (this applies to everyone) if you have a better way to word this, please write it down! --Ms.Panes 18:08, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
Heck. Sleepiness does wonders to my reading. Vote changed. ~AriedartinTalkA KS J abt all 18:59, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
  2. Kill - Then how about make it balanced and tell all the poor level 1 survivor bastards they'll most assuredly die because of overcading? How about telling medics they're a useless class too? Just tell them whatever they need to know, then send them on their merry way. Stupid zombie skills. --Vandurn 14:58, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
You're welcome to suggest your own changes to the game if you think survivors are being treated unfairly. However, I don't understand your objection, as I'm not proposing any new skills. Could you clarify? --Ms.Panes 16:08, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Ha, yes. Sorry, this just jerks my chain. The way the game works is that people have to learn hard lessons. That is how is has been, that's really just how Urban Dead plays. If you're going to start telling new zombies how to play the game, you should also tell survivors the same thing too, give them warnings about the dangers that they will face regularly. Except instead of buildings that don't have doors, tell them all the buildings will have heavy, overbarricaded doors that, yes, they will die trying to break down. Maybe if there was a zombie class that started off with Memories of Life, maybe that would make sense, not that the actual zombie class would make sense, but your suggestion would. Making the game easier or harder is never good though. --Vandurn 14:41, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
  3. Kill - More fun to figure out by yourself.- Inky 21:10, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
