20080107 Shooting out from inside of building

Kastore 2008.dec.07, 22:00 CET

Suggestion type
New feature or new skill

Suggestion scope
Survivors in safehouses

Suggestion description
This idea came in my mind a couple of days ago, that the survivors in Malton can't effectively stand against a long lasting, ongoing siege from the zombie hordes because of the following facts: Becoming a zombie from human is easy, because you only have to kill yourself (jump), and spend 10 AP (or 1) to stand up. But becaming a human from zombie form is hard, as it needs another player and a syringe, and 10 AP from that player, and 10 from you to stand up. Zombies who get inside a sieged building and killed can continue their siege, but killed humans need to walk in circles for revivification, and often spends more and more AP to get back in his/her original fighting position. Also, revivified zombies belonging to the sieging force can also stay inside the buildings under siege, and can PK some deffender, without any loss, as he will wake up as a zombie again, as well as the PK-ed players. This gives the zombies another advantage with the APs to spend. On the other hand, humans have much better weapons to fight with, so they can deal better damage/AP ratio. But this seems to be not countering the zombies' advantages. Evidence based fact is, that a siege where nearly equal zombie attackers and human deffenders were present, the zombies were victorious. (I just browsed over the Wiki for famous fights, and haven't found a single largescale siege, where human deffenders defeated a zombie siege.) For this reason, I started to think about a method, that can help the stuck in deffenders in their fighting efforts. I would like to suggest two forms for this idea for shooting out from buildings.

The first idea: buildings wich are at least very strongly barricaded, can be used to fire out from, but with an increased cost of AP, like 2 or 3 AP per shot. This is because maintaining the shooting position need concentration. The second idea: a new skill, called Sniper training wich allows the player to do as told above. This skill would need the Free running skill (as it is needed to access buildings' roofs or fireladders, or such), and with Basic Firearms Training kills. The third idea is to combine the two into one, reducing the users of this opportunity to fewer players.

Keep Votes

  1. Keep - As I described above, I would like to see this in the game, practicing in sieges. --Kastore 21:16, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
  2. Keep - This would be a nice tool against sieges.--GunFox13 23:27, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - Sounds good, that is until you go to the game statistics screen and realize that survivors outnumber zombies by almost twenty percent. Zombies already have a hard enough time getting through barricades, adding your suggestion to that would make it next to impossible for new zombies to even get close to a building let alone level up. Just picture yourself spawning in a green suburb as a new zombie, you wouldn't get two feet before some trenchie blows your head off from inside a building causing you to have to use 15 ap to stand back up only to be headshot again. With that being said I must decline.--Srg Shawn 21:22, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
  2. Weak Kill - Not bad... for a gun buff. Actually, this is pretty good... BoboTalkClown 22:22, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
  3. Kill - zombies currently have the advantage in sieges, but so far there hasn't been a good solution to that--CorndogheroT-S-Z 22:28, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
  4. Kill There's not supposed to be a solution to zombies having the advantage in sieges! They're players too, and they get screwed over on most other occasions. This gives a buff to a side that already is doing a whole lot better, and actually encourages dumb behavior in survivors. Survivors should not be shooting zombies on the street, if you have a couple of AP handy in a siege and no zombies are actually inside at the time, barricade, dump bodies or heal. --SeventythreeTalk 23:26, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
  5. Kill - I can see you put a lot of thought into it, but the survivors just don't need more advantages... if it were the other way (zombies: 60% Humans: 40%) then I might change my vote... --/~Rakuen~\ 00:20, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Dupe - This has been suggested at least 20 times. Ill find links later, unless someone else finds them first. --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 22:26, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

  3. Spam - Please read the Frequently Suggested before posting a suggestion. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 22:41, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
  4. Dupe As everybody above and anyone below. You haven't played a zed have you? Iscariot 23:09, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
  5. Spupe - Similar things are frequently suggested. Basically, it's a way of allowing trenchcoaters to sit inside behind barricades and hurt zombies. It's not even any use in a siege because going outside to kill (which has the same effect but uses fewer AP than this) trades massive amounts of human AP for a small amount of zombie AP from headshot. This AP should be spent cading/dumping/healing/reviving anyway.Studoku 23:10, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
  6. Spam - No. --Cyberbob DORIS CGR U! 23:18, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

  8. Spaupe - Above. --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 23:47, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
  9. Spam - Terrible idea. Not only is the zombie siege advantage the only edge that they have against survivors in any context, but shooting zeds outside does NOTHING for survivor chances. --The Hierophant 00:03, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
  10. Spam - Even if you could shoot from rooftops using current weapons and at the same AP cost, it still wouldn't be worth it because you just wasted a lot of your AP (and ammo) for what amounts to a zombie simply standing up again. The best case scenario here is that you have headshot and the zombie doesn't have ankle grab, and even that is a waste of AP (not to mention unsportsmanlike to newbies). Shooting from inside buildings or on rooftops IS very much in genre, and would be worthwhile if a headshot actually meant permanent zombie death, but in Urban Dead you have to remember that the rules of the game are a little bit out of genre for the sake of being able to play longer. --Uncle Bill 00:23, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
  11. Spupe - I'm a chargin' mah dupe cannon! --BlobdudeTalk TM MC 03:14, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
  12. Spam/Dupe - 1) Suggested countless times before; 2) Sieges are really quite a foolish endeavour for survivors; 3) NO! --TriPolarClicky! 04:05, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
  13. Dupe - With a lack of understanding of the game.--Karekmaps?! 04:15, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
