20080108 Laundry

Shotstol at 00:32, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Suggestion type
to make your clothes look nicer

Suggestion scope
Humans in powered buildings

Suggestion description
I had to throw away my nice Fort Creedy camouflage uniform today, because it was too bloody from all these times I've died and killed. I can't get a new one since Ft. Creedy is under zombie control and I'm a survivor. I like camo, because I have a camouflage jacket in real life and it is SICK NASTY. Also, I was concerned with those people who have been wearing the same clothes for over a YEAR. Ugh. Don't wanna be around them.

So an idea came into my head. Why not bring a laundry machine into the game? Here it is:

Laundry Machine

Locations: Warehouses(2%) Fort Barracks(5%) Mall Tech Stores(5%)
Encumbrance: 20%

Allows clothes to be washed for 0 AP(seriously, who actually uses clothes as a communication method anyway?) in a powered building. Removes any blood from the clothing. Both washes and dries.

The descriptions:

  • Setup:
"You set up the laundry machine. It whirrs, clunks, and falls silent."
  • Descripton:
Powered:"A portable generator is running, powering a (damage condition) white laundry machine...."
Unpowered:"...a powered-down laundry machine,...."
  • Use
"You put your clothes through the washer, then the drier. Your clothes come out dry, immaculate, and smelling of linen."
  • Destruction
Dented to Badly Damaged:"You smash/shoot at the laundry machine. It sputters briefly."
Destruction:"You smash at the laundry machine. It collapses, and falls apart."
  • Fixing
"You fix the laundry machine."

It has the same HP as generators and can be fixed with toolboxes.

  3. Keep Such... amazing flavor. Omega 00:45, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
  4. Keep - Could be better, like costing 1 AP, but whatever. --Heretic144 00:56, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

  7. Keep - There is no cool way to destroy a washing machine. -doc crook 02:08, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
  8. Keep/Change - Why make laundry machines a separate item and become a unused hindrance? Would be better to have them come with a certain building type automatically. They can still be damaged and repaired, but cannot be "destroyed" and removed from the game. Also, there are other items in-game that are given 1 AP uses and yet are in themself useless; wine and beer, for two things. --Private Mark 05:29, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
  9. Keep- nice harmless idea, so why not have it. Eventually, a new class of laundry killers will appear.--James beckerson 07:53, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill Firstly, I'm not certain but this may be a dupe. Secondly, clothes should just remain the way they are, realy. If your clothes are overly torn, you should realy just get new ones. --SeventythreeTalk 00:40, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
  2. Kill - P'shh... Go get new clothes at the local church... --TriPolarClicky! 02:53, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
  3. Kill/Change - Needs a high AP cost to use, 5AP or so as it saves a whole bunch. Oh, and Grim, I can tell you that washing machines are pretty much the same weight and size as portable generators, so the encumbrance is quite fitting :). --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 09:48, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - Wow... coming from a Creedy Trenchie... I thought the blood made you look more bad ass? =P --/~Rakuen~\ 00:45, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
  2. Spam - Actually, this may sound strange now, but OVERPOWERED for exactly why you are suggesting it. It actively saves AP that would normally be used to replace the clothes, not to mention similar ideas have been rejected before, and it's a free action so No free actions.--Karekmaps?! 01:01, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
  3. Spam - Washing machines are huge. 200% encumberance at least, displacing everything else in your inventory. Not to mention the fact that without a Drier (200% more encumberance) and washing powder (3% encumberance) you are just going to get uniformly messy soggy clothing. That, and the fact this saves you an obscene amount of AP running back to a place where you got the clothing and changing into a new set. if you dont like blood, you shouldnt be playing a game dedicated to violence. --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 02:06, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
  4. Spam - Go find new ones and stop being lazy -- boxy talki 02:23 9 January 2008 (BST)
  5. Spam - As so many above me. Although, I was secretly hoping someone would suggest a laundry machine just so I could get a few chuckles. --Hhal 02:40, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
  6. Spam - Do you honestly expect me to believe that in a zombie apocalypse, most people are worried about what they're wearing? If you care that much gb2 gaia. And another thing, have you ever attempted hauling around a washing machine? It takes at least two people to easily PUSH it somewhere. Unless everyone in Malton is a roids freak who loves fashon, Im gonna have to shoot this one down. -Downinflames 03:13, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
  7. Spam - Centaurs with crossbows, Satyrs with lightsabres etc. No free actions. However I will change my vote to Keep if it is conceded by everyone who votes Keep that Malton's water supply is down, therefore these machines don't work until Kevan reintroduces running water. -- Iscariot 04:13, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
