20080122 Bucket of paint

Magnum Odus 14:07, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Suggestion type
Balance change, reducing the use of meta-gaming, marker.

Suggestion scope
Humans and their ability to track other humans.

Suggestion description
Finding a bucket of paint in a warehouse, art gallery, or tech store, will allow you to throw paint on someone in the same room. This will mark their name the colour of the paint, and will give others who come into contact with this person the opportunity to see why that have been marked. The paint will also drip for the first five moves the person performs, before drying. This will allow the person to be tracked briefly. After that person has used 50AP, the paint will dry up entirely and only show up on their profiles.

Example: X is wearing a blue-paint-stained sweater.

This will reduce the need to use greasemonkey programs and the UD tool. It will also provide a means for newer players to see which characters they may want to be weary of. I am strongly against meta-gaming, and consider this to be a function that may convince people to remove add-ons they may have used in the past.

Keep Votes

  1. Keep. I think this would remove the edge meta-gamers would have over other people. Magnum Odus 14:14, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
  2. Seems like a good idea.--Thekooks 18:33, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. This is completely irrelevant to UD. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 14:21, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
  2. Kill - As Ass Hack ;) --/~Rakuen~\ 15:50, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
  3. Weak Kill - It's not unrealistic, and I can see how it's useful, but I don't think you have the details down ("opportunity to see why they are marked? Where?"), and is 50AP the right criterion for when it dries? Still, the suggestion isn't completely unreasonable. --Pgunn 16:05, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
  4. Kill - I really want to Keep this, but it is just so silly. It just wouldn't fit in the game. --Druuuuu OcTRR 16:28, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
  5. Kill - Uneeeded.--Kolechovski 16:30, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
  6. kill - while I can see lots of uses for this (your PETA remark on the talk page is the perfect comeback by the way) It would degenerate into paintball wars within hours of implementation! Contacts are already coloured and this should not over-write that, it would be like flares (even the oft suggested coloured flares) in that it would be meaningless for its intended purpose. While it might be fun to throw paint on your enemies it would wear pretty thin pretty fast and so I am afraid its kill from me. --Honestmistake 17:00, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
  7. Kill - I'm pretty sure we're all aware of 'painting your target', but you don't need to take it so literally. Maybe if you fixed the flavour for it, and made it sound more in-genre, people would be more accepting. Spraypainting each other, perhaps? Spraypainting the barricades, for pure flavour and decoration? There are loads of alternative stuff we could do with paint. ~AriedartinTalkA KS J abt all 17:15, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
  8. Kill - Unbalances gameplay in favor of survivors. How am I supposed to PK successfully if people are tracking my movements? Plus, it would be annoying to have paint dumped on me all of the time.  Billy Club Thorton  T!  RR  17:48, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
  9. Kill - It may be well-intended, but I see this essentially being abused and misused 2/3 of the time and becoming a source of great annoyance for players who take this game seriously. --Diano 20:04, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
  10. Kill - Sorry, I just don't think this fits, flavour wise or would be taken up at all in the way it is intended.--SeventythreeTalk 20:06, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
  11. Kill - PAINTBALL WITHOUT BALLS. BoboTalkClown 21:58, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
  12. Kill - As above. --Heretic144 23:42, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - This is urban dead. Not paintfighter. --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 14:22, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I know that. It's just a real world method of marking hostile players, as opposed to certain tools that give your character psychic powers.Magnum Odus 14:28, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
  2. Spam - This would be blatantly abused by those who you're trying to mark. They'd just throw paint on innocent people and then there'd be a bunch of different coloured people running around trying to kill each other. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 14:31, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
  3. Spam - As Midianian, except plus my doctor coat would get all dirty and I don't want that. Good idea! But your suggestion itself, how you typed it out, needs reworking. --Vandurn 14:36, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
  4. Spam + Humourous - N.B. you don't need plugins to make your contacts appear in color you choose --~~~~ [talk] 15:32, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
  5. Humorous - And unfunny.--Karekmaps?! 15:39, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
  6. Humourous - And would lead to spam.Studoku 16:29, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
  7. Spam - the sooner that the multiple spam votes whitewash this suggestion, the better. Ah-hardy harr harr. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 16:41, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
  8. Spam - High potential for abuse by idiots. --Z. slay3r Talk  20:35, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
  9. Humorous - But not humorous. --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 22:23, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
  10. 'Spamtastical! - Yeah, hmm I like the idea of throwing paint on someone but this is just a bit too ridiculous to be implimented and would actually take the fun out of the game as you'd be spammed with the colours of the rainbow within minutes. Acoustic Pie 22:30, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
  11. Spam - Yes, do give us a great way to cause drama, this would be a very good thing(!) Also, why would new players need to know "want to be weary of."? Do certain players in this game cause tiredness? Is this like the drowsy label of some medicines? Danger: do not operate heavy machinery after being exposed to this player? Learn to write in my beautiful language or refrain from turning on your computer. -- Iscariot 23:03, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
It's not your language, jackass. I would be more upset if you hadn't filled your petty attempt at masturbation with basic grammatical errors. I spot at least five punctuation mistakes; I consider this far worse than typing adding an "e" to wary. Is this what you honestly do with your free time? Are you still a virgin? I hope you are; smugness of such levels should have died out decades ago. Magnum Odus 23:15, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Oh, look! The shining moral beacon responds with "get laid"! How mature! How refined! Hark! I shall now go to the talk page of this failed suggestion and whine about abuse.... -- Iscariot 23:19, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
So that's a yes, then. And "hark" just furthers my point about your smugness, eheu! You little furcifur. Magnum Odus 23:24, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, was I supposed to justify that rhetorical question with an answer? I'm not the one losing the argument (as well as making poor suggestions) and having to resort to vandalism. -- Iscariot 23:33, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
