20080127 Endurance Training: The Revision

Cheeseman W!RandomTalk 18:56, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Suggestion type
Skill

Suggestion scope
Everyone (Newer characters in particular)

Suggestion description
Right. Since the last attempt at this bombed completely, I'm going to change it taking on board Seventythree's idea. So here is the new improved version of Endurance Training:

First of all, Endurance Training will be a skill available in the Civilian Skills Tree for 100XP. It will allow you to increase your encumbrance to 115%. However, the snag to this is the purchasing of the skill. The snag is that you will have to choose between Body Building and Endurance Training. You won't be able to be both incredibly muscular and able to carry heavy weights over long distances, I'm afraid. One or the other, and after you've picked the skill you want, you won't be able to change your mind. There will be a clear warning on each skill to let you know that you can't pick both and possibly a confirmation box to allow you to change your mind if you clicked the wrong one by accident.

In order to allow older characters who already have Body Building to get this skill (if they want it), you will get a single opportunity in your Buy Skills page to purchase Endurance Training which will remove your Body Building Skill and replace it with Endurance Training. If you don't want it, you just leave it as it is.

Summary

  • Endurance Training will give you an extra 15% to carry items.
  • It will be available for purchase for 100XP as a Civilian Skill.
  • You cannot possess both Endurance Training and Body Building. You'll need to make a choice between them.
  • Current characters will be given the option to change to Endurance Training, however after that you cannot return to Body Building. Choose carefully.

EDIT: Here's the original suggestion in case anyone wants to compare them.

Keep Votes

  1. Author Keep - Lets see how this one goes. -- Cheeseman W!RandomTalk 18:57, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
  2. Keep - Alright. --Private Mark 19:08, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
  3. Keep - good idea, and I don't get why choice skills are so looked down on, they would remove the homogenity of high-level characters--CorndogheroT-S-Z 20:12, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
  4. Keep - I like it, choice is good, level 41's are all the same. This makes a good balance, easier to kill, but more effective at storing and transporting goods. Perhaps if the encumbrance was reduced a little for people who choose BB and increased a little for those with ET it would be better -- boxy talki 01:14 28 January 2008 (BST)
  5. Keep- I want more skills! --Darth LumisT! A! E! SR 03:00, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
  6. weak keep - fine --~~~~ [talk] 08:20, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
  7. Keep - I think that this could be an interesting addition.--SeventythreeTalk 10:28, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - 15% is overpowered. Look at the recent Rucksack votes. Also, Choice Skills are generally looked down upon. --Druuuuu OcTRR 19:08, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
  2. I don't want more than 100% to be possible. - W 19:17, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
  3. Kill - Nice idea, but encumbrance is fine.  Billy Club Thorton  T!  RR  19:24, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
  4. Kill - Mmm. Encumbrance may need a 2% buff at most, but really, survivors do fine. --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 19:30, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
  5. Kill I don't want to have to choose between the two. Sorry. ----Secruss|Yak|Brahnz!|CGR|PKA|800px-Flag of the United States.svg.png|EMLN|Templates|RRF|RFTM|Crap|WHOZ|Evil3.gif|MU|GN|C2008|Chippy.gif|22:03, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
  6. No! - Thank you... BoboTalkClown 00:37, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
  7. Kill - I like the idea of choice skills, give characters a bit of variation - but i would choose BB so this is pretty useless.--Jed 01:06, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
  8. I like "choice" skills, but those are class based that I liked. Not this. And, as before, survivors do NOT need extra encumbrance room.--Pesatyel 03:07, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
  9. Kill - Love choice skills, but choosing between these two is ... underjustified. Strong people, in real life, tend to be good at carrying stuff. --Pgunn 14:24, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
  10. Kill - As PGunn above. - Headshot Hal 16:10, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
  11. Kill - If you could carry 15% more stuff, you would HAVE to be incredibly muscular. Also, I really don't like the thought of being forced to choose. --Hhal 16:58, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam- Choice skills are bad. Mkay.Studoku 20:02, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
    • Re - I disagree. It actually gives the opportunity to develop characters differently. If you think about it, there is very little difference between a level 41 Scientist and a level 41 Military Class. This is basically breaking that trend towards similarity and making the end game much more varied in tactics. For example a survivor with Body Building would be better suited to assaulting zombie held buildings (or survivor held ones from a zombie point of view) and taking more damage whereas the one with Endurance Training would be better as a support class to provide healing, revivification etc as they wont last as long as a Body Builder in combat. -- Cheeseman W!RandomTalk 20:10, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
  2. Spam - Conditional Skills that disable other skills suck. And also, Encumbrance exists for a reason, it's already absurdly weak don't weaken it more.--Karekmaps?! 21:14, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
  3. Spam - "You won't be able to be both incredibly muscular and able to carry heavy weights over long distances". Sorry, but that's just stupid. I've seen the Iron Man contests - and a lot of them involve being both incredibly muscular and able to carry heavy weights over long distances. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 21:37, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
  4. Flan&Jello - sorry, I just don't like this one... the above peoples also have good points. --/~Rakuen~\Talk Domo.gif I Still Love Grim 23:52, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
  5. Spam - I hate conditional skills. --Ducis DuxSlothTalk 00:12, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
  6. As so many above in Kill and Spam. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 14:13, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
  7. Spam - 1. Survivors can already carry ridiculous amounts of stuff. 2. HATE mutually exclusive skills. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 14:40, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
  8. Spam - Above good all said are. --The Grimch U! E! WAT! 15:07, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
  9. Spam - Please leave endurance alone. It is fine as is. It's actually even better than fine. -- John RubinT! ZG FER 16:06, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
