20080211 Number Groups v2.1

Hhal 01:41, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Suggestion type
Stats page change.

Suggestion scope
Everyone

Suggestion description
Put simply, all I'm proposing is to number the list of groups. Here's an example of how it might look: Numbergroupsv2.PNG

As you can see, there is nothing special about this. This is not giving the groups any special rankings. This does not change how the groups are arranged in any way. All it does is number all the groups on the list.

Note: I realize this is the third time I have submitted this, and I thank you all for bearing with me. The first time, I mistakenly edited my suggestion during voting. Second time, a sysop removed it by exploiting a loophole in the system. Let's hope nothing else goes wrong...

Voting Section

Voting Rules
Votes must be numbered, justified, signed, and timestamped.
# justification ~~~~

Votes that do not conform to the above may be struck by any user.

The only valid votes are Keep, Kill, Spam or Dupe. If you wish to abstain from voting, do not vote.

Keep Votes

  1. Author Keep - As always, please keep in mind that a Spam is not a strong kill. If you just don't like my suggestion, vote Kill. --Hhal 01:43, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
    • Hah! Check this out! "Each author should not make more than one suggestion per day (i.e. in a 24 hour period beginning at 00:01 BST)." This means that this is NOT a multi and is a perfectly legit suggestion. --Hhal 02:17, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
      • Thank goodness, I'd hate to have to vote a fourth time. But provide the link, please. --Ms.Panes 03:44, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
        • It's down in the voting rules...about halfway through I think. --Hhal 17:51, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  2. Keep - Sure.... but it will probably be removed again... --/~Rakuen~\Talk Domo.gif I Still Love Grim 02:01, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  3. Keep - Same as last time. --FXI 02:11, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  4. Keep - I'll vote keep every time this suggestion pops up.--Xan2020 02:20, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  5. Keep - Honestly, this is the same as last time, and all the same taint-wipes are going to vote against it because they can't grasp a suggestion that isn't a major overhaul. --Heretic144 03:30, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  6. Keep/Change - Although my group is close enough to the top that I can count, but from those at the bottom it can help judge where your group is in relation to others. I'd prefer if the numbers were aligned in a straight vertical line, rather than hugging the group name. Also, better picture. --  AHLGTG THE END IS NIGH! 04:02, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  7. Keep - Again, I don't see who this hurts. --Diano 04:10, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  8. Keep - Hmm....why was it not numbered in the first place? The page would look much cleaner if it were numbered.--Jamie Cantwell3 07:04, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  9. Keep - thanks to Karek the Giant Wanker (making up rules to remove the last iteration of this), I'm forced to vote yet again on this perfectly reasonable suggestion. And, for the troll-voting morons below, it's one suggestion per calendar day, not per 24 hours - so if you're going to quote rules, please make sure you read and understand them first. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 09:23, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  10. Keep I think I bought this up in suggestions once, haha. Honestly, I don't understand these people who are voting kill for this...especially the guy who says it would encourage a "this group is better than that group" mentality....they are already ranked...We are just voting on putting numbers next to the freaking names. It might be easy for groups who are coming in the top 10, but for us who are in the 40's, it becomes taxing to count it out every time. Sorry for the long winded post.--MichaelRead 11:00, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  11. Keep - I like knowing that my group is 234th or whatever.-Studoku 11:32, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  12. Keep This also keeps track of how many groups there are. I wouldn't mind a group stats page that shows how many members are alive/dead, what levels, etc. --Jon Pyre 14:24, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  13. Keep - A tad helpful in knowing the position ♠lid #;background:#ffffff;padding:1px;">Z. slay3r Talk  17:54, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  14. Keep - Why not? Makes things more organized, and a bit easier to use. Now how is that
'poinless?' Since when do things go by, 'if it's not the hugest thing to hit UD, why bother?' It
makes a positive addition to the game. Lt Graves 18:01, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  15. Keep - I continue to strongly support this suggestion, my group is 68ish on the list and its a pain to count that many spots, not to mention i just left finger prints all over my screen that i have to clean. one thing i would change is what AHLG suggested, aligning the numbers in a straight vertical line --Scotw 18:54, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  16. Keep - OMG SOOOOO0OO00O POINLES OMG NO! Example of spam vote provided to left. --BoboTalkClown 20:30, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  17. Keep - it's a simple fix, no reason not to--CorndogheroT-S-Z 23:28, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  18. Keep - For the ordinally challenged. --Aeon17x 01:39, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
  19. Keep - Spam votes for spam's sake is the worst kind of spam. This isn't a bad suggestion, it just keeps getting removed for stupid reasons. Let's just vote on it's merits and be done with it. --Uncle Bill 06:24, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
  20. Keep - Kudos to you for somehow creating a shit-fest down in the Spam Votes section. Personally, I don't believe it makes any difference if this is implemented, seeing as the numbers don't really mean anything. In fact, that's the whole point behind the arguments and drunken rantings downstairs, isn't it? Ahh, hell. Whatever. In the end, it's Kevan's decision, not ours, to implement this, so all the arguing in the world over a bunch of pretty grey text being sprinkled on a page won't make any difference whatsoever. At least the numbers aren't trying to imply that one group is greater than the other now. --Private Mark 04:53, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
  21. Keep - Oh dear god! Adding NUMBERS to the STATS page? ENUMERATING things like some kind of LIST? YOU GODLESS COMMUNIST YOU! --Gene Splicer 21:28, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
  22. Keep as Gene Splicer... Lol... ~A`Blue`JellyTME*V*I*L*? 00:46, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
  23. Keep -Druuuuu OcTRR 00:08, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  24. Keep - As Gene Splicer.--Kolechovski 00:58, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  25. Kepp - What lame excuses the kill/spam voters come up with. Well... I suppose it's valid if you think it's ugly, but a zed apocalypse is ugly too. It's fitting, don't you think? Besides, one group can already do that if they choose to count them by hand. If they really wanna do that, then nothing's stopping them now. But if someone wants to see how well the scale to all the other groups, then why the heck not? It would be even better if you wanna see if you can take on another group. "We're number 16, but they're number 8! We can't beat them! AAaaaaaaarrrghh!" It'd save most of us a lotta trouble. -- Quizzical  Quiz  Speak  01:11, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  26. Keep - Simple and effective. I don't any problem with this. Look at how east for us to number stuff. All we do is put "#". --Adobewedge 02:12, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  27. Keep Good. --Darth LumisT! A! E! SR 22:52, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
  28. Keep - Then someone can suggest a JavaScript function to hide the numbers. --Anotherpongo 14:58, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
  29. Keep - Good idea. A time saver as you don't have to spend time counting your group's posistion --Moosjoo 14:39, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
  30. Keep - I like it. It would just make things easier. --Falco 20:22, 21 February 2008
  31. Keep - Go for it =) --Mirasta 11:12, 22 February 2008
  32. Keep - I don't see any reason why we shouldn't put this in, it would make determining your own rank a lot easier. --Geoman777 04:03, 23 February 2008
  33. Keep - It's better than having to count out what rank you are. --Blanemcc 10:51, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
  34. keep - there is no good reason under the stars for me not to vote keep. --WanYao 16:04, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
  35. keep - I always take ages trying to find my groups rank and you always lose count and have to restart. good idea.tom1504 17:38, 23 February 2008
  36. Keep - I've always wondered why they weren't numbered, That needs to change.--KF 23:28, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
  37. Keep - Sure, why not. --Vandurn 13:57, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
  38. Keep - Makes life easier --Rick Best 22:09, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - as usual, I think it's prettier without the numbers. BTW -> "This suggestion has been removed from voting because each user is only allowed to submit one suggestion per 24hr period" -that will probably happen again, as it's been less than 24 hours. The fact that today is the 11th and the last time you submitted was the 10th makes no difference. I'd suggest removing this until the allotted time has passed. --Ms.Panes 01:51, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
    • I think it's actually that you have to wait until after 00:00 BMT or something like that. I certainly hope you're not right. It would really suck to have this removed again. --Hhal 02:04, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  2. Kill- I do not like what is suggested and what Pane said, but really mainly because you were mean to Karek and being an ass about it as well. -- BKM 05:25, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
    • I doubt this'll do any good, but let me remind you of the Golden Rule of voting: You are voting on Suggestions, not Users. --Hhal 03:38, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
Kill - At least to me, positional numbers by the groups' names implies "this group is better that that group", or that group x is better than group x+1. I think it might have the same effect on groups as post counts can have on forum users, and encourage groups to compare themselves with other groups in an unhealthy way. --Toejam 10:15, 11 February 2008 (UTC) Rethinking, Abstain Toejam 19:06, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
  3. Kill - Unneeded ego stroking is unneeded.--Karekmaps?! 05:16, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
  4. Kill - Another useless suggestion to waste people's time by who else than hhal? This suggestion is pure spam, and I hate, hate, HATE it. Kevan obviously assumes you can count, and if you can't, then go back to elementary school. Ioncannon11 20:15, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - For, again, spamming up the system with this shitty suggestion. It will probably get multi removed again, but not by me this time since you're a whining cunt and Funt bitches at anyone who follows rules that don't follow how he wants things done.--Karekmaps?! 02:07, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
    • Note - Troll-based vote struck.--The General T Sys U! P! F! 17:09, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
      • I was wondering how long that would take considering I mentioned it could be done on the talk page I think.--Karekmaps?! 05:16, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
        • Yeah, I don't check the wiki as often as I used to (I do have, *some* sort of life outside the wiki, ya know :p). I saw your comment on the Vandal Banning page was surprised that no one had done it, as well.--The General T Sys U! P! F! 16:26, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
    • All I have to say is, your vote means little to me. You vote spam on every suggestion. You really have a people problem, and have no business posting on a public Wiki. --Hhal 02:09, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
      • No, I just spam the shitty ones, like every one you've proposed so far, and usually ones you like which throw the game balance so far in the survivors favor that it'd be impossible to play zombies. Oh and as for statements in my vote, for other users benefit, Don't believe me? Suggestion_talk:20080210_Number_Groups_v2--Karekmaps?! 02:11, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  2. Spam And the point is....what? Learning how to count?--Pesatyel 02:38, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
    • There are at least 100 groups on the stats page, do you want to count them? --FXI 03:12, 11 February 2008 (UTC)Non-author Re--Karekmaps?! 03:18, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  3. Spam - no point, adds shit... If you don't know how to count big numbers, copypaste list to a text editor and look at the row number --~~~~ [talk] 07:18, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  4. Spam - Entirely pointless. If knowing that you're 110th instead of "somewhere around the middle" matters to you that much, you're free to count your position yourself. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 10:22, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
  5. Spam - Bored now. Tranlation: It's a fucking shit idea and I'm sick of it SPAMMING up the suggestions page. --The Hierophant 12:31, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
    • Flaming me makes you look like a two year old. --Hhal 17:43, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
      • It's a response to that witless fuck, Solo, striking my vote for lack of a justification. I consider being bored shitless of the same crap idea being suggested three times to be a perfectly legitimate justification. Oh, and fuck you, you patronising, impotent little prick. There, you wanted a flame and I obliged. Now you can have that smug sense of satisfaction which serves you so well in lieu of sexual adequacy. --The Hierophant 20:59, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
  6. Spam - Unneeded. Learn to count rather than expecting the intertron to do it for you. Note, if he submits this again, can someone just copy my vote over to the new one to save me from typing more to shoot down his crap? -- Iscariot 14:52, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
    • It's not an issue of laziness, it's an issue of quick reference. Sure, anyone with about an hour of free time could sit there and count all the groups by hand. But if you actually don't have that much free time (like me), you can't be bothered with counting stuff. --Hhal 17:43, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
You don't have to count by hand, i already posted 1 way to automate it, there is a variety of others as well. --~~~~ [talk] 20:50, 11 February 2008 (UTC) non-autor re struck
Re your "comeback": In this game, as in life, we should not be rewarding stupid or apathetic people. If you're too stupid to count or can't be bothered then you shouldn't get to know. Your suggestion is for the addition of a pointless piece of coding, hence SPAM. -- Iscariot 03:19, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
  7. There's no telling how many groups are on that list. And to clarify even more before you RE me saying I didn't read the suggestion, that list lists every group with 10 or more members. There's no limit to how long this list can go. So really, we might be seeing 1000 groups, or 100 groups. It really doesn't matter. --•▬ ▬••▬ • •••• •▬ ▬•▬• ▬•▬ #nerftemplatedsigs 20:47, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
