Suggestion description
Arrgh I spent 30 minutes writing this and then it went away. Okay... rewriting this.

I wrote a past suggestion where some people mentioned their displeasure with the idea that people are carrying tons of shotguns. I agree - it doesn't make sense. So my idea is a two-part change to shotguns and shotgun shell ammo. I realize this might get killed but I'd like to take this to Talk:Suggestions if it does. I've tried to take this to Talk:Suggestions for about 2 weeks and I've been unable to figure it out, so if anyone can help me (Cheeseman, Airborne, or anyone else helpful?), please do send me a note. I seem to suck at figuring out wiki editing.

Anyway, here's the idea:

1) Limit the amount of shotguns which people can carry to two. If they have more, then put 2 shells per shotgun in its place. Don't kill or spam yet, please read further first.

2) Lower the burden percentage for shotgun shells from 2% to 1%. It makes sense. Shotgun shells are lighter and smaller than 6-shooter pistol ammo (6-shooter ammo requires that holder for the bullets which a shotgun shell doesn't, the casing itself is lighter, and 1 shell is half the size of a standard pistol clip. You'd be able to carry more ammo, but not as many shotguns. This is necessary to have it be a fair tradeoff. Plus it makes sense to carry more ammo, not more big unwieldy shotguns.

3) In addition to being able to find single shotgun shells at the normal rates in PDs, Gun Shops, and Armories, allow boxes of shells to be found as well. A box of shells would hold 4 shells. It would be 3 times harder to find a box of shells in a gun shop or PD than a single shell, and twice as hard to find it in an armory. I don't know the percentages, which is another reason I'd like to have been able to do this in Talk:Suggestion first if I had been able to figure out how. In other words, if the chance of getting a shotgun shell in, say, a PD is 1 in 5, then the chance of getting a box of shells in a PD would be 1 in 15. (These numbers are not necessarily accurate, I'm just using them to show the idea of 3 times harder to find). The message shown would be something like 'You search and find a box of shells, containing 4 shotgun shells.' (it would be 4%, as opposed to 1% for a single shell, of course)

4) If you have 2 shotguns already, and you find another shotgun, the game will pose something along the lines of You find another shotgun, so you remove the shells from it and add them to your inventory

Notes about this change

1) Pistols and pistol ammo is unaffected by this. Their weights/burden make a lot more sense, and you can more easily carry several small, light pistols than several large, long, heavy shotguns.

2) This is an all or nothing for the shotgun change and ammo change - you can't just limit the shotguns, and you can't just lower the burden percentage for shells. If you just limit the shotguns without changing the burden of shells, it's unreasonably unbalanced in favor of the zombies. If you just lower the burden of the shotgun shells and don't limit the amount of shotguns you can hold, it's unreasonably unbalanced in favor of the survivors. Both changes in tandem work fairly for both sides.

Benefits of this change

1) Armories will have an actual use. The chance for 4 shells if you're lucky.

2) Survivors will be able to carry more ammo, which can help in a protracted fight. This aspect will benefit survivors.

3) Survivors will have to reload the shotgun every time they shoot it twice, which means using 1 AP per reload during the fight. This aspect will benefit zombies.

4) No one will be able to complain anymore that Sam the trenchcoater is carrying 12 loaded shotguns around, but the survivor will still be able to carry a significant amount of ammo to fight the hordes.

If you want to kill this idea, okay, but if you do, please send me a note to try to help me figure out how to use Talk:Suggestion, so I can rework this idea (or other ideas I have which I haven't posted yet) for the future. Thank you.

Keep Votes

  1. Keep - Author Keep (fixed my non-timestamp thing) - Tselita 21:25, 2 April 2008 (BST)
  2. Keep - I read the suggestion and all the kills and that one spam down there; they all make good points, but I still like it and this person looked like they work hard on this thing. Another keep for you author.--Jamie Cantwel3 05:03, 2 April 2008 (BST)
  3. Weak-Weak-Weak Keep -Though I totally disagree with most of it I am feeling oddly supportive today. I suggest you place all of your suggestions in Talk:Suggestions before bringing them here. If you run into any troubles let me know. I can tell you worked pretty hard on this. (try to shy away from weapons for a little while if you can)--Airborne88Zzz1.JPGT|Z.Quiz|PSS 06:21, 2 April 2008 (BST)
  4. Keep, but just... yeah i agree with bits and pieces of this. The limited thing is stupid as every1 has said below, however boxes of ammo would be cool (but at a VERY low percentage), keep trying! and i look fwd to seein' you at Talk:Suggestions.--xoxo 08:53, 2 April 2008 (BST)
  5. Definite Keep- I completely agree with most of of it because early today i used twenty AP and all i got was one clip and one shell if i had more shells it would help.--And25 13:08, 5 April 2008 (BST)
  6. Keep - But remove the boxes of ammo entirely. The rest just feels more realistic to me. 2 AP to fire a shotgun is exactly right. These are not automatics. --FrozenFlame 06:29, 8 April 2008 (BST)
  7. Keep Makes sense. The amount of people who carry 4+ shotguns are increasing. How can you possibly carry 4 shotguns at a time? two in each hand? --shuamchen 10:50, GMT
    • Re - I personally am theorizing that every person in Malton is actually an expert juggler, and that's how they're doing it. When they want to fire the gun, they use their feet, or juggle the rest in one hand while they hold the shooting shotgun in the other. Amazing people, those maltonites. :)--Tselita 22:56, 11 April 2008 (BST)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - point 1 - why? What prevents you from carrying 3, 4, 5 or 10 shotguns? point 4 - counterintuitive, auto action. It generally nerfs PKers (and prevents such amazing events). --  00:05, 2 April 2008 (BST)
Re - Since you asked, I'll respond to this. 1) What keeps a person from carrying 3,4, or 5 or 10 shotguns are two things - weight and cumbersome-ness. I can see how 2 shotguns can be strapped to a person's back or in a bag or something, but 3-10 is a bit insane. 4 (what happened to points 2 and 3?)) Actually it doesn't actually nerf PKers. It lets them carry significantly more ammo, just like any other survivor would be able to. It'd still be an even playing field for your PKing antics. The only one it really hurts are trenchies. And lets face it, they could use some hurting when they're not killing 20 dozen ninjas with their steely glares. (*gapes at the tommy gun*) -- Tselita
Re - see discussion page.--  07:00, 2 April 2008 (BST)
  2. Kill - Shooting a single shotgun shot would take two AP - one to load the gun, another to shoot. That's the same amount of AP as it takes to shoot two pistol shots, and do the same amount of damage. Shotguns are worse than pistols in every other way besides the lower AP to kill when they're preloaded. Pointless nerf. --Jasonjason 00:20, 2 April 2008 (BST)
  3. Kill - Sorry, anything that restricts gameplay is a no in my book. But good try! --Vandurn 00:34, 2 April 2008 (BST)
  4. Kill - Yea, some flaws (like Jason said), but this is one of the better thought out suggestions I've seen, with enough work this might work out... and Good Try!--/~Rakuen~\Talk Domo.gif I Still Love Grim 01:02, 2 April 2008 (BST)
  5. Weak Kill - I'd rather have a tactical shotgun with bigger magazines. If you need help with the formatting on the Talk:Suggestions page, you can leave me a message on my talk page. --Hhal 01:39, 2 April 2008 (BST)
  6. Kill - What they said. --Banana reads Scoundrell for all of Yesterday's News, Today! 01:43, 2 April 2008 (BST)
  7. Kill - the PKer community frowns upon your shenanigans. --Ropponmatsu 01:53, 2 April 2008 (BST)
  8. Kill - The encumberance system is already designed to limit what you can carry. Also, from an RP perspective, just assume you are carrying one combat shotgun that holds multiple shells.--Dr Doom86Phoenix2.gif T PSS 02:34, 2 April 2008 (BST)
Re - But it's not a combat shotgun. It's a double barrel shotgun. Which means it holds 2 rounds, not 20. But the shells would weigh less, and you could carry more so you wouldn't run out as fast and have to go searching again. Plus with the extra weight you'd have freed, you could hold other important survivor items. FAKs, syringes, toolbox, etc, without always going over 100%. And again I must mention the anti-trenchcoat point :) (sorry for making 2 separate responses, I felt they both deserved a response) -- Tselita
Re - But your missing the point: Encumberance is designed to let the player CHOOSE what he or she carries. If somebody chooses to lug around 10 shotguns, that should be their decision, as long as they dont go over 100%. I agree its more effective to carry a variety of items, but each player should be free to make that decision. Also, it doesnt have to be a double barrell shotgun just cause the wiki tells you it is. In game, its simply referred to as a "shotgun." You can imagine that however you want! Nice try with this though.--Dr Doom86Phoenix2.gif T PSS 06:32, 2 April 2008 (BST)
  9. Shotguns? Whoopty doo. My character is currently running around lugging 4 generators and a tree (among other stuff). Let people carry whatever the hell they want. If your going to be limiting people with REALISM, then a generator would be closer to 100% encumberance.--Pesatyel 03:56, 2 April 2008 (BST)
Re - Tried to send this to you in discussion but it wasn't working. Check this link. [1] Portable generators can be anywhere from 12 pounds (which you carry) to 140 pounds (which you pull on a wheel). The one in the link is a powerful one and it's 27 pounds, with a handle and strap for easy carrying. Carrying it wouldn't give you 100% unless you were a chipmunk. :) (no clue why I couldn't Discuss in private to you while I was able to with Viktor. If anyone knows how to put it in discussion, please send me a talk, thanks) --Tselita 07:51, 2 April 2008 (BST)
  10. Kill - More realistic, but not fun. --ZsL 18:11, 2 April 2008 (BST)
  11. Kill - As Viktor Suvorov (weakly), Jasonjason, Hhal, Pesatyel & Z. slay3r. -- The Lethal Trio [Tlk|NTCS|RRF] U! E! 18:30, 2 April 2008 (BST)
  12. Kill - But I need my 12 shotties! --Trav 20:03, 2 April 2008 (BST)
  13. Kill - For many of the above reasons. Though I do like the idea of boxes of shells being introduced.--DI Sweeny 20:39, 2 April 2008 (BST)

  15. Kill - Mainly because of balance issues from finding multiple shells at once.--Studoku W! 20:52, 2 April 2008 (BST)
  16. Kill - As above. --FXI 00:14, 3 April 2008 (BST)
  17. Kill - What I thought would be a simple percent change turned into a full blown re-imagining of the system. --Ciaran Deckardson 16:55, 3 April 2008 (BST)
  18. Kill - Just increase encumbrance while lightening the shells. But then again, it would become a dupe. ~AriedartinTalkA KS J abt all 16:58, 4 April 2008 (BST)
  19. Kill - Because there are only Pistol Clips.--Carnexhat 14:03, 5 April 2008 (BST)
  20. Kill - The idea really needs some work.--Luke Skywalker 14:08, 5 April 2008 (BST)
  21. Kill - Lets just put the survivors at an even greater disadvantage--Horcoff 12:18, 6 April 2008 (BST)
Kill - Makes shotguns almost identical to pistols. Sometimes we all have to do a little PKing and don't want to do it the slow way, OK? --Riseabove Missing timestamp: vote struck. --Funt Solo QT Scotland flag.JPG 23:53, 11 April 2008 (BST)
  22. Kill - What keeps me from going up to a sleeping zombie and decapitating him, thereby permanently killing the zombie? A lot of things don't make "sense" in this game if taken from a truly realistic perspective, and this is one of them. Besides, trenchcoaty or not, it's still an easy way to clear zombie hordes. --Private Mark 04:29, 8 April 2008 (BST)
  23. Kill - Shotguns are already inferior. Their only benefit of carrying around 17 shotguns (the true max) is the mass damage potential. I think if someone went through all that trouble to have them all preloaded like that, they should be able to reap the rewards for doing so. besides, the encumbrance limits how many they can carry. 2 are usually enough for most people, but if somebody wants to carry more, no invisible force can prevent them from doing so (in real life, people can struggle to carry around a huge stash of shotguns).--Kolechovski 02:53, 9 April 2008 (BST)
  24. Kill - Makes shotguns almost identical to pistols. Sometimes we all have to do a little PKing and don't want to do it the slow way, OK? --Riseabove 03:36, 12 April 2008 (BST)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. spamdupe - the boxes of ammo part is a total dupe. and the rest is mostly spam. you just can't limit what people carry... no way... that alone is spam-o-rific. take this to the help page. dude, it's the button on the top there that says "Discussion"... from there, follow the instructions. Thanks. --WanYao 04:07, 2 April 2008 (BST)
Re (again, sorry for making another response, I just felt the need to explain that I would have taken this to the help page first, but until about 30 minutes ago I had been trying to figure out how for 2 weeks - the instructions are confusing to someone not used to wiki pages. Airborne recently showed me how. PS thanks again Airborne)--Tselita 05:57, 2 April 2008 (BST)
