20090227 0% Encumbrance for GPS Unit

Explodey 00:29, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Suggestion type
Item change.

Suggestion scope
Survivors.

Suggestion description
At the moment the GPS Unit is useless to experienced players, because they know that you can get your current coordinates by looking at the HTML source of the map page and figuring out the "missing" coordinates in the 3x3 mini-map.

This is not fun

In any game, but especially MMORPGs, tasks that are not fun should not give any advantage. This does give an advantage, albeit a small one (makes room for one more shotgun shell, or FAK, or needle, in your inventory.)

Rather than making the GPS unit free as has previously been suggested, under this suggestion you would still have to search for it, but only once, and it would not then affect your ability to carry other items.

The ability to carry more than one GPS would also be removed (as for trees) because there is no advantage in having more than one (with or without this encumbrance change.)

Keep Votes

  1. Author keep --Explodey 00:30, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
  2. keep - My 'real' mobile phone has full sat-nav so i don't see why GPS can't just be added as an upgrade for phones. It would require your phone to recieve a signal but wouldn't take up any extra inventory space... --Honestmistake 08:21, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
Re: Thanks for the keep vote, but I wouldn't merge this with the phone - that's been suggested before. --Explodey 15:35, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
  3. Keep - I'm sure it's possible to make a greasemonkey script for the same effect. --Toejam 23:35, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
  4. Keep - Because GPS units are useless as is. You'd need to only be able to carry one, obviously. --dgw 13:47, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Kill Votes

  1. Kill - Encumbrance in UD is a way of limiting the sheer amount of things that a person can carry. By your logic newspapers should have 0% encumbrance as well, and that's just silly. 2% isn't that much. If you really need that extra 2% of space, then don't carry a GPS. --Maverick Talk - OBR Praise Knowledge! 404 06:50, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
Re: No, not newspapers. They are consumable (you can read them) --Explodey 09:35, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
  2. Kill - Yeah, not that good of an idea. It has, however, gotten me to think about a similar idea. --Blake Firedancer T E RNL? P.I.S.I.T. 08:01, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
  3. Kill - Not being able to carry more than one GPS is fine, but 2% encumbrance really isn't that much to worry about. --ZsL 08:16, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
  4. Kill - As maverick has said, but also who uses mobiles on this game?--Athur birling 10:10, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
  5. Kill - How does someone carry an infinate ammount of GPS's? --Turtleboy412 05:17, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
Re: No, my suggestion description states that you can only carry one. --Explodey 13:19, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
  6. Kill - Sorry but no, 2% isn't even that much. --Kamikazie-Bunny 19:07, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
  7. Kill - As Zombie slay3r. Get rid of the ability to carry more than one, but it should still cost emcumbrance. --_Vic D'Amato__Dead vs Blue_ 02:42, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
  8. Kill -Just wikipedia the location your in if you're that desperate to know where you are without the encumbrance. --User:Rogueboy 09:34, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
  9. Kill' - Some people like to have the convenience of knowing their coordinates in a single glance. For people who don't, there's the "discard as worthless" option. People who want it sacrifice encumbrance, people who don't want it can carry an extra shotgun shell. I see no problems with the current system. --LaosOman 21:15, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - It's only 2%, for fucks sake. If you want it easy, you carry one. If you can tolerate the not-fun-ness, then you can look at the HTML code. --Midianian¦T¦DS¦SP¦ 01:10, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

  5. Spam It is a physical object...why wouldn't it have an encumbrance?--Pesatyel 05:03, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Re: But it would make no difference here. There's little scope for tweaks, and being unpopular would not have stopped me suggesting it anyway. --Explodey 15:16, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
RE: It does though. You can argue your points, listen to those people against your ideas and come to voting with people understanding your idea AND some ideas about why people would vote kill, which you are then prewarned about. Its always a good idea to develop. Especially if by your own admission its an unpopular choice in a system based on gaining peoples support. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 15:24, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
