Cerebral Infection

Timestamp: SIM Core Map.png Swiers 07:06, 14 June 2008 (BST)
Type: Skill
Scope: Zombies
Description: A riff on the 'syringes heal infections" idea below.
Zombies with this skill would inflict particularly nasty infections that take root in the brain after death. If you are infected by a zombies that has this skill, you can not be revived until after your infection is cured. (Note that this can be done by a survivor using a FAK before the revive you.) Cerebral infection would show up when you scan a zombie, similar to Brain Rot, but would not make scanning more difficult.
This skill could logically be a child skill to either "infection" or "Brain Rot". I'd lean towards "Brain Rot", as it actually seems it would be more fun if its a somewhat uncommon surprise rather than the default state for dead survivors.

Discussion (Cerebral Infection)

Encourages scanning, can be countered at a cost of approx 6 AP. Functions as normal when the victim is a survivor? I'm betting people will want this as a subskill of infectious bite. - User:Whitehouse 07:32, 14 June 2008 (BST)

Right, there would be no special effect on a survivor suffering from this sort of infection (although they might get a special flavor text). I agree that people would WANT it as an infectious bite sub skill, but I don't think every character who has infectious bite should be able to have it. Its pretty powerful; it would mean revivers need to find and carry a lot more FAKs along with needles, which means that they need access to TWO kinds of resource building. If well stocked revivers were not on-call / willing to move in, brining back a ruined suburb might be rather hard. Also it could actually be a scarier skill if survivors didn't adapt to making scan / heal / revive the new SOP. As well, it has a bit of griefing potential; if a brain rotted zombie does that, its in character, but if pissed off survivors do it to PKers, or death cultists do it, it doesn't seem so cool. Finally, even dedicated zombies all to often won't buy brain rot and this would give you a good reason to do so; I could see making this a freebie for any zombie who has both infectious bite and brain rot. Brain Rot should definitely be a requirement. This would become practically ubiquitous if it was just under infection. --Midianian|T|T:S|C:RCS| 10:33, 14 June 2008 (BST)

I like this, and I agree that it should require brain rot. The disadvantage is that it makes the most complex part of the game (DNA extraction, processing through the stack, reviving) even more complex. Garum 14:18, 14 June 2008 (BST)
That had occurred to me. I think if the messages were really clear, even newbies could figure it out.
  • scan zombie => "Analysis reveals the Subject has a cerebral infection and can not be revived until given basic medical care."
  • Failed revive attempt for 1 AP and syringe waste => "You initiate the revivification procedure, but the subject is not responding fully. They seem to need basic medical care."
Would that cover it? SIM Core Map.png Swiers 17:45, 14 June 2008 (BST)

This would definitely be an interesting subskill of Brain Rot. --PdeqTalk* 17:33, 14 June 2008 (BST)

Congrats - You've stumbled upon Katthew's Headshot for Zombies. This is a very good idea. You also didn't try to mess with the AP/XP which is another point that she made. Good luck submitting it! (FYI this isn't a dupe because she never submitted it)--– Nubis NWO 01:36, 15 June 2008 (BST)

There are similarities, but both the style and effect are easily different enough that even if the suggestion had been made, a dupe vote would be invalidated.
BTW, did Katthew maybe stumble on my year old Radio Interference suggestion when she wrote the Static Hiss idea? SIM Core Map.png Swiers 03:43, 15 June 2008 (BST)
No, I assume we're both just too damn awesome for this place. --カシュー, ザ ゾンビ クィーン (ビープ ビープ) ;x You rated this wiki '1'! Great job, go hog wild! @ 23:05, 15 June 2008 (BST)
Besides, Static Hiss is just the zombie version of Broadcast not an event that happens upon transmitter destruction. It's the chance for every zombie player to say what they have always wanted: "Send More Cops".--– Nubis NWO 23:08, 15 June 2008 (BST)

Continuing Discussion

Just a quick note re: the first kill vote. As it is, I always FAK before reviving -- and so do most smart revivers. It avoids the malpractice suits when people die of infections while searching for an entry point... Thus, I already spend at least 11 AP doing revives most of the time, or 12 if I scan first -- which I normally do if they're not contact-listed. And can still easily pull off 3 or 4 -- and sometimes 5 -- suicide revives if I am well-prepared. This suggestion will barely impact people who use prophylactics when poking strangers! ;P --WanYao 22:23, 15 June 2008 (BST)

FAKing zombies in Malton is a felony, sir. Please stay where you are and the keystone cops will be there to collect you shortly. --Akule Maker of fine, hand-crafted UDWiki sass since 2006 -- Akule School's back in session™ 14:16, 20 June 2008 (BST)

I like the wording for the most part, but i think the part about basic medical care could be better phrased..especially for the failed attempt.--F4tal3rror 05:29, 16 June 2008 (BST)

Probably could be- I whipped those up pretty fast. Kevan writes such flavor text himself in all the implemented suggestions anyhow, so I didn;t worry much on the specific wording. SIM Core Map.png Swiers 18:57, 20 June 2008 (BST)
