Power Struggle

Timestamp: MrAushvitz 02:48, 25 September 2006 (BST)
Type: Body Building Skill
Scope: Body Building has it's "other" minor benefits for survivors, and zombies
Description: Bodybuilding is a pretty sweet skill in and of itself, but it is quite reasonable to give it 2 "slight" benefits one for the survivors, one for the zombies. Just to add to the gaming experience, and adds options when buying skills for how you play your survivor/zombie.

Body Building Skill Addititions:

  • Survivors: Body Building adds 5% to your punch attack accuracy. "Work the body Rock.. work the body!"
  • Zombies: Feeding drag currently allows you to drag survivors with 12 Life or less out onto the street. I propose zombies this skill also gain "If you also have the Body Building skill, it will work on survivors with 13 Life or less."

It makes the physical strength buff just slightly more useful in actual game mechanics.. not just increased physical toughness. I didn't want to buff feeding drag too much, that 1 point will make quite a difference in some seiges! (Hit hard, and hit fast!)

  3. Keep - I admit the human addition isn't really that good, but the Feeding drag part for the Zombies would be helpful. And since since a lot of Zombies used to be survivors, this would be a nice bonus. But I don't think it would convince anyone to be revived just because the wanted the extra strength. --Officer Johnieo 22:33, 25 Septmeber 2006 (BST)

Kill Votes
Your lovely kill votes here...

  1. Kill - This is encouraging zombies to buy survivor skills. Youronlyfriend 03:16, 25 September 2006 (BST)
    • Re - Some skills add benefits to the "other side" ex. ankle grab, blunt hand weapon skills. It's not a bad idea to have some crossover so long as it isn't overdone. --MrAushvitz 05:23, 25 September 2006 (BST)
      • Re - I understand this but in RP purposes (as if any uses them) it's just not realistic. Youronlyfriend 07:50, 25 September 2006 (BST)
  2. Kill - Useless, exactly who punches when there are better weapons? And having zombies drag out 13 HP instead of 12 HP is rather worthless, who would you get?--Mr yawn 06:43, 25 September 2006 (BST)
  3. Big Stompy Killbot - way-hay-hayyyyy overpowered, because you've linked your ideas into the Body Building skill. 10 extra HP is a good enough benefit as it stands. The blunt hand weapons skill is not a benefit to zombies - it's a curiosity - their natural attacks are always better. Feeding Drag is powerful enough - leave it alone. How about a new skill: Street Fighting, that buffs your punch attack (but balances it with the other hand weapons so someone might actually choose to use it)? --Funt Solo 07:48, 25 September 2006 (BST)
  4. Kill - Body building is good enough now as it is really- an extra 10hp. Does it need any more? --MarieThe Grove 20:16, 25 September 2006 (BST)
  5. Kill Dammit, Funt! You stole my word! Anyways, this is overpowered.--Grigori 02:38, 26 September 2006 (BST)
  6. Kill - Too complicated. Also would make the life of my pure zombie even more difficult. --Niilomaan GRR!M! 12:20, 26 September 2006 (BST)
  7. I don't know about the zombie part (could be "overpowered"), but I don't see how it hurts the survivor part. Some people like to role play and this would help without imbalancing the game. Just because SOME people don't use punching (or pipes or whatever, for that matter) doesn't mean OTHER people can't. And, out of curiosity Youronlyfriend, what's wrong with "encourging" zombies to get Survivor skills. They already are, to be the most efficient they can be (Body Building, NT, Diagnosis). If there were "zombie equivelents," then I'd agree with you.--Pesatyel 06:43, 1 October 2006 (BST)

Let's make Zombie Weapons have a Purpose

Timestamp: Reaper with no name 15:40, 25 September 2006 (BST)
Type: Improvement
Scope: Zombies using Melee Weapons
Description: Currently, there really isn't a purpose to zombies using melee weapons. Even the newest of zombies is better off attacking with their claws. And they can only use blunt melee weapons. What is the deal with that? Why would the sharpness of a weapon determine whether or not a zombie can use it? The knife I can understand, because that requires some dexterity (particularly for stabbing), but there is no excuse for the fact that zombies can't use fire axes. They can hold long heavy implements. They can swing said implements. Hence, they should be able to use fire axes.

But just giving zombies the ability to use fire axes still doesn't address the main concern, being that melee weapons are mostly useless to zombies. Zombies are clearly stronger than humans (their attacks can attest to that), so their attacks with melee weapons should be stronger as well, since they will be able to swing them harder. As a result, I suggest that melee weapons should do +2 damage when wielded by zombies.

Strategically, what this will allow is for a zombie to be able to sacrifice accuracy for power (more so than the bite). Of course, the dmg per AP is still much lower than that of claws or bites.

To demonstrate this, the best case scenario of a zombie using a melee weapon versus a zombie with no skills.

Zombie with Fire Axe: 5 dmg * 10% Accuracy = 0.5 dmg per AP

Unskilled Zombie Claws: 2 dmg * 25% accuracy = 0.5 dmg per AP

Unskilled Zombie Bite: 4 dmg * 10% Accuracy = 0.4 dmg per AP

So as you can see, this really isn't overpowered, as zombies still don't get any additional dmg per AP. Plus, this is assuming that they happened to have the most powerful melee weapon and no zombie skills. Having a weaker weapon or more attack skills would cause the zombie to do much more dmg per AP without a weapon. However, even for advanced zombies this modification would still have some use, as the power of a fire axe in zombie hands would do 5 dmg (more than their bite), even though its dmg per AP would be extremely low compared to their normal attacks. It would essentially be like the zombie version of the flare gun in combat; very high damage but very low dmg per AP.

So, to sum it all up: Let zombies use the fire axe, and make all melee weapons wielded by zombies do +2 dmg.

  1. Author Keep - Gives zombies more practical attack options (making them more fun to play as) while at the same time not actually making them more powerful. --Reaper with no name 15:42, 25 September 2006 (BST)
  2. Keep? - Until someone else points out why this isn't a perfectly sensible idea, nerfing nothing and adding flavoursome zombie goodness, it's a Keep from this smelly survivor. (I'm assuming that melee upgrade skills don't give bonuses to the zambah?) --Funt Solo 15:46, 25 September 2006 (BST)
    • Re - As far as I know, they don't. If it turns out they do, I'll probably have to revise or abandon this suggestion, as that would most likely throw off the balance. --Reaper with no name 15:51, 25 September 2006 (BST)

#meh.... - the weapons DO have a use. crowbars destroy things such as barricades (ahem) with extreme efficiency. a zombie with a crowbar is a dangerous zombie....

  • Note - unsigned, improper vote struck. –Xoid STFU! 10:54, 26 September 2006 (BST)
  1. Kill - By your own statement, zombie lack the dexterity to wield a knife, and thus lack the dexterity to wield a fire axe keepin the sharp bit forward. It becomes a blunt weapon and would have to be nerfed accordingly. Anyway, zombies using blunt instruments makes more sense, so work on them instead of having them wield fire axes just like survivors. I'd like to see blunt weapons have some sort of point, but so far, this doesn't really do it. --Rgon 17:51, 25 September 2006 (BST)
    • Re - Why wouldn't they be able to keep the sharp end forward? The only reason they wouldn't be able to use the knife is because they wouldn't have the dexterity and/or intelligence to stab. --Reaper with no name 18:52, 25 September 2006 (BST)
      • Re - My thought here is that the zombie is a shambling mindless, ummm, zombie. While they might be able to hold it in the correct direction, acctually swinging it and keeping a proper grip with the blade facing the correct direction requires fine control of wrist and arm muscles, not the wild swings you would expect from a zombie. You owuld expect a zombie to hit with the larger flat portions of the axe, essentially using it as a maul, rather than for it's intended purpose. --Rgon 19:41, 25 September 2006 (BST)
        • Re - Uh, you do realize that fire axes have both a bladed side and a rather painful to get hit by pointed other end. In many situations, It would cause more damage hitting with that side, so unless you're saying that the zombies are using the axes as golf clubs, you have no grounds, fella. --Mnbvcx 02:16, 27 September 2006 (BST)
  2. Kill - Zombies should get a buff for using blunt weapons. They shouldn't get super fire axe. David Malfisto 17:00, 26 September 2006 (BST)
  3. Kill There should be a purpose for zombies to using weapons but this isn't it. And the reason zombies can't use fire axes is because they don't have the coordination to keep the edge of the weapon pointed at target. --Jon Pyre 20:40, 26 September 2006 (BST)
  4. I agree with Jon Pyre.--Pesatyel 06:46, 1 October 2006 (BST)

Spam/Dupe Votes

  1. Spam - The only scenario this would be decent in is a zombie with no skills. Since anyone who actually wanted to be a zombie would start off with a skill raising their hit percentage this fire axes would be unused. Overall it is useless.--Mr yawn 16:01, 25 September 2006 (BST)
    • Re - How is it useless? If they had a fire axe they now have an attack that does 5 dmg but has 10% accuracy. Sure, it's worse than what they can already do in terms of dmg per AP, but it still has a purpose. No other zombie attack would be able to do that much damage. It's just that it would be very risky. --Reaper with no name 16:27, 25 September 2006 (BST)
      • Re - The chances of finding yourself in such a situation is very very slim. Therefore useless.--Mr yawn 20:24, 25 September 2006 (BST)
  2. Spam - How weird, you nerfed your own suggestion. --Gage 17:36, 25 September 2006 (BST)
    • Re - I didn't nerf anything. I already pointed out above that the skill doesn't actually make zombies more powerful. It just gives them another strategic option. They can sacrifice accuracy and hope that they hit, doing a lot of damage if they do. --Reaper with no name 18:52, 25 September 2006 (BST)
  3. Spam - Why should zombies get to use axes? Survivor weapons for survivors and various body parts for zombies. It works now doesn't it? --MarieThe Grove 20:56, 26 September 2006 (BST)
  4. Spam - Read Marie's vote. --Axe Hack 03:04, 27 September 2006 (BST)
