Discussion from Developing Guides

I'm mostly looking for opinions on usefulness, followed by formatting/layout.
Don't sweat grammar and spelling too much, someone's already proof-reading it for that purpose. (Though I yet appreciate pointers, as I'm not a native speaker. You can even edit straight away if you see a clear-cut mistake.) -- Spiderzed 15:12, 30 May 2010 (BST)

Comments

A few things, in order that I noticed:

  • XP, not XPs.
  • Play another character as a survivor? Counterproductive!
  • Such big headings... No one likes the single =, but everyone loves the ===.
  • The Rouges Gallery does not exist. Except maybe in Malls.
  • See Why bother parachuting? below for the reason. - What if I donwanna?
  • I like radios! My rotter has 6!
  • Spraying misinformation is always worth the effort, regardless of location.
  • Trenchies don't help survivors, eat them last.
  • Why feeding groan when the cades are up? Let them go somewhere easier for them to get into.
  • Seems to be too focused on fun, and not barhah.
  • Just because there's nothing to be found, doesn't mean they won't replace the genny eventually.
  • Seems to be a guide for newbs, but uses advanced terms.
  • Your guide will outlive FU, and people will think it's outdated.
  • Always rely on the danger reports, especially for suburbs.
  • Seems to focus too much on methods and not enough on the big picture.

Keep in mind that I was on a mad quest for errors, and this does not represent my opinion of the overall quality. --VVV RPGMBCWS 21:27, 30 May 2010 (BST)

Just going through the points I disagree with strongly:
  • Play another character as a survivor? Counterproductive!
How is that counterproductive? There's no better way to learn about survivors and their weak-points than to experience them first hand. Armchair experience from reading guides and so on is fine and dandy of course (and a must for becoming a good and educated survivor rather than falling for the usual trenchie fails), but no match for first-hand experience.
  • The Rouges Gallery does not exist. Except maybe in Malls.
There are plenty of survivor groups who generally DNR everyone on the RG. It's no big deal, but one to be wary of, especially as an RG rap-sheet is irreversible. (Plus, PKing is generally an inefficient thing to do AP-wise and impact-wise if one wants to further the zombie cause. So the earlier the newbs are discouraged from it and focus on more productive methods, the better.)
  • Trenchies don't help survivors, eat them last. - Why feeding groan when the cades are up? Let them go somewhere easier for them to get into.
Depends on your goals really. Sometimes, I play for keeps. Sometimes, I want to screw someone over for the heck of it (like the trenchie who headshots zombies ouitside and brags about his kill count in his profile). Using feeding groans to direct zombies to a particular barricaded building is just a method for the latter case.
  • Seems to be a guide for newbs, but uses advanced terms. - Seems to focus too much on methods and not enough on the big picture.
Yeah, I'm focussing on new death-cultists here. What motivated me to write this one were the questions of the babah zambahs in FU, and my discovery that there wasn't a single decent guide on DCing yet. (The recommended links at the end are pretty much all I've found.)
I'd have loved myself to get more into the big picture, but the big picture of a.) survivor play and b.) siege strategy are already topics for at least two full guides themselves. (Iscariot used to have a good article on the big picture of survivor play in his userspace. But alas, it's a goner with the recent drama. Or else I'd have linked it for sure.)
Maybe I could bridge the gap by finding good guides for those two topics and linking them?
Are there any points in particular where you think that I'm using too advanced terms to be understandable for new players? (I have already directed the question at our own babahs, but getting more opinions on that is going to help.)

Thanks for having taken the time to look through it. You have raised several good points I have overlooked and could improve (like the fact that the FU hint could become outdated). -- Spiderzed 22:15, 30 May 2010 (BST)

try reading [this] DC guide. ----sexualharrisonStarofdavid2.png ¯\(Boobs.gif)/¯ 16:44, 2 June 2010 (BST)

I know this one. It's already linked as one of the recommended guides at the end (-: -- Spiderzed 17:21, 2 June 2010 (BST)

Have removed now the FU bit at the end. To adress the lack of Big Picture insight without bloating the guide by putting enough stuff for at least two additional guides into it, I linked some survivor guides that I liked especially for their insight into the big picture, and linked in turn to that section in the "Play a survivor plz" section. One thing I'm uncertain about is if I should keep the link to Izzys "No More Heroes", as it is a goner right now. But OTOH it offers some great insight if you can stand Izzys polemical stance and expression, and I'm certain it will return along with its creator to the wiki at some point.
The other bit from TripleU I'm especially concerned about, but haven't yet dealt with, is the issue of too advanced terms. But then again, death-culting requires to bring at least one alt into the mid levels, so it might be futile to make it graspable for total newbs. (That was at least the PoV of my proof-reader when I talked with her about that point off-site.)
Any thoughts by others on those two points? -- Spiderzed 14:36, 3 June 2010 (BST)

Rogue's Gallery

So now that the RG is effectively dead and Necroconnect is effectively picking up the slack, should this see an update on how to abuse the rules of NC? -- Spiderzed 21:03, 8 May 2016 (UTC)

Probably. I assume the tactics are the same? Bob Moncrief EBDW! 01:51, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
