Talk:OT

From The Urban Dead Wiki

It's a large group. Widely mistrusted though. If I saw them around, I'd leave.--Milo 09:23, 15 Sep 2005 (BST)

As a member of St. D's Bar & Grill, I think I speak for all of our group when I say that the members of OT we've come into contact with have been nothing but outstanding people.--Cartoonlad 17:25, 8 June 2006 (BST)
Ah. I only assumed it was small due to how bad their wiki entry was. Usually the larger groups put together rather good pages. Heck, even the tiniest groups like the CoL have a semi-decent wiki entry. I'll amend it. --Katthew 09:25, 15 Sep 2005 (BST)

I corrected the amendments.

We are trustworthy, to each other. We have a sense of humor, and love our injokes and abbreviations, but will keep them confined to our group page - so please leave them there. --Krenn 09:32, 15 Sep 2005 (BST)

If and only if you keep it confined to a group statement or manifesto, like the other group pages. Filling up the main information on the group, especially the groupbox, with jokes so old that even Fark has stopped beating them to death, is a major no-no. Don't do it, thanks. --Katthew 09:37, 15 Sep 2005 (BST)

Respectifully, get a grip, take a walk, and relax.

It's a wiki, for a game. We're being nice, keeping it just our page, and it's also not as if the groupbox affected anywhere else, so the extra emphasis on "especially the groupbox" is ridiculous.

--Krenn 09:42, 15 Sep 2005 (BST)

Look at the DARIS page. Notice how it has a concise paragraph at the top explaining what's going on, and then a rather humurous "Declaration." Most of us don't mind humor, but you have to put facts in there too. Reading your versions, I have no idea what's going on with you guys.--Milo 09:46, 15 Sep 2005 (BST)

We don't either. That's the joy of being in our group. --Krenn 09:47, 15 Sep 2005 (BST)

I am a moderator on this wiki, and in case you're unsure of what moderation is, it means I have to make sure this place looks nice for everyone. Pages are not run to suit the people who made them. Especially if those people insist on using ancient, decrepit injokes that make zombies look spry. The groupbox is there for quick, handy information on groups. Believe it or not, I don't class retarded acronyms created by a bunch of 13-year-olds on some forum as "information". Neither should you. Either edit in factual information or just don't edit this page.

Pay attention to Milo. He is smarter than your entire forums combined. --Katthew 09:49, 15 Sep 2005 (BST)

An interesting assertion.

I'm smart enough to realize this is just a game, something for fun, for being lighthearted about. Lives are not on the line, and it just doesn't matter what people can or can't find out about this group.

That's part of the reason that I've gone with your over-the-top moderation (something I've been doing on a massive scale for 10 years before this, my friend) - it has ceased to be fun for me.

And the feeling is mutual.

--Krenn 09:52, 15 Sep 2005 (BST)

Well hooray, I'm glad my OVER THE TOP MODERATION of telling you to not shit up this wiki has stopped all your fun. God, what a world we live in, where moderators make rules like "don't make pages full of retarded shit" and then have the gall to NOT TREAT YOU AS AN EXCEPTION BECAUSE YOU'RE FROM AN INTERNET FORUM! I'd call the police on this one, dude. Obviously it is serious business that someone is stopping you from making an ass of yourself. I wouldn't be surprised if next week the FBI kick down my door and arrest me for offending some jerk on the internet. Oh, how will I live with myself knowing that I could have avoided all this just by letting you do whatever you want with no respect for the rules?

Wait, wait... I've just realised I don't care what you think. Phew, what a load off my mind. --Katthew 09:58, 15 Sep 2005 (BST)

I repeat my earlier advice.

Get up, go outside, and relax. You are WAY too tense.

I'm not, because I'm here to enjoy things.

Your sense of scope is completely out of whack. One page, for one group, reflected that group's attitude. How, exactly, is that "shitting up" the entire wiki? How, exactly, did one page become multiple pages?

If you paid attention, you'd realize that when this wiki launched I helped create structure where nobody was bothering to, by going and creating categories, finding all the groups and setting the categories. Sure, others have taken it further, but the fact I did it on my own should probably twig a couple brain cells to go "Hey, maybe this guy knows what he's doing and isn't a wikivandal, so maybe there's a reason he puts humorous stuff in here."

But hey, it's your sandbox, and if you want to have a coronary over it, it's your life. --Krenn 10:03, 15 Sep 2005 (BST)

Krenn, looking back on your various edits, not once has there been anything approaching "humour" on that page. At all. Ever. In fact, it was a kind of peculiar negative humour that seemed to just suck all the humour out of the world, until it comprised a Goddamn quantum singularity of anti-lol. You are not funny. Your group is not funny. You are regurgitating catchphrases that Slashdot have abandoned. Slashdot, Krenn. The place where trite and unfunny catchphrases go to die after years and years of constant abuse. Granted, Fark still hammers them out like it's 1999 all over again, but they're Fark and the day they stop beating out a catchphrase is the day the world ends.

If I allow you free reign on your site, then that sets precedent for everyone else to mess up their pages with horrible shit, and pretty soon every page is "ALL YOUR MALTON ARE BELONG TO US" and there's no longer any information on this site because it's all Goddamn catchphrases and bullshit. If you want to have your wacky group and their unfunny catchphrases, then keep it on your own inferior forums. However, when on this wiki you will endeavour to be informative to everyone, even if that means not being able to make references to Simpsons episodes that first aired a decade ago. --Katthew 10:14, 15 Sep 2005 (BST)

I'm guessing... 160 over 110?

RE LAX

Enjoy, I'm done. I'll go play the game, and you can do whatever you want here, because it's not worth my time, nor are you. --Krenn 10:17, 15 Sep 2005 (BST)

Hrm. As someone who thinks all the POV sections of the group pages amount to so much cruft, but has accepted that the consensus is to keep 'em, I'm trying to work out where we should draw the line so we can be consistent rather than just relying on personal taste. At first glance, I think the best bet would be to say that the POV must be IC. That way we can see even Team Zombie Hardcore as a bunch of extremely naive people who think that they can ride out a zombie apocalypse whilst improving their "sweet ninja skills", but exclude all this forum-catchphrase-based stuff.
