Construction Sites

Timestamp: Cap'n Silly 18:00, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
Type: New building.
Scope: Urban Dead players.
Description: I suggest we replace half/all/three fourths of wasteland with "Construction Sites" These would be fenced off, no doors but barricadable, like Junkyards.

New Items-

Wrench- Blunt weapon, 15% accuracy to start with, variable 1-2 damage. (like lead pipe, slightly more accurate, but 50/50 of getting 1 or 2 damage.)

Items found here could be-

Wrench- 7% search rate

Beer- 2% search rate

Fuel Cans- 2% search rate

Cell phone- 1% search rate

Thoughts? Constructive criticisms?

Discussion

Would these be unransackable like junkyards? For that would add a lot of good safe houses for survivors, which isn't needed at all. Even if these are like regular buildings, it would help survivors spread out more (with more buildings all over Malton) so zeds would spend way more AP looking for food...which is bad.--Lachryma 01:37, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

These would be ransackable, with flavour (Ooh, lime please!) being something like: "You smash at the controls of a crane/heavy lifter/meerkat brain. It creaks loudly and drops a load of debris/bricks/cement/poo onto the construction site."--Cap'n Silly FOOGER!02:43, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Well, varying the buildings is okay, but new weapons nobody will use are not. You need to make this building somehow unique and the wrench isn't the way to do it.--Pesatyel 02:54, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

The wrench is a newbie weapon that you can actually find, but if it sucks that badly, should I replace it with lead pipe or fire axe, or just remove the weapon part from it? ----Cap'n Silly FOOGER! 03:00, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I'd say replace the wrench with the pipe. That would make this a mostly flavor change, which is good... but it still needs something to make it unique. Maybe if the construction site was tall enough for binoculars and window jumpers? The other thing you have to think about is the fact that this changes the free running lanes and potentially creates shortcuts that might not have been there before. People will probably spam that. --Uncle Bill 03:48, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Okay, what if they're not free-runnable into, but free runnable out of, because one side is less complete? And yeah, they probably should be tall buildings. --Cap'n Silly FOOGER! 12:05, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Well, the knife is the "newbie" weapon (given the recent upgrades), so replace it with that. And whatabout including FLAK JACKETS? Think of them as "safety gear" on the job.--Pesatyel

I like the flak jacket thing, but how do you explain the knife? People do vote kill because of that. --Cap'n Silly UnsmartMcDougal 12:05, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Simply explain that the knife, the newbie weapon, needs to get spread around a little. Hell, when you find one it says "pocket knife" and I figure something like that could be found anywhere, really.--Pesatyel 07:09, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
This would also be an excellent place for chainsaws, which I still think no zombie game should be without. --Uncle Bill 22:41, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Good point. What percentage? --Cap'n Silly FOOGER!

Sounds like a good idea. The switch from wrench to pipe would be more fitting. Making the site tall enough to use binoculars and "suicide-friendly" would just make this suggestion even better. Changing a quarter of the junkyards to construction sites appears to be an appropriate fraction, don't you think? --Go to Zombie slay3r's Page 00:06, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Thinking is something I don't do very much, but a quater sounds good.--Cap'n Silly Squid Macaroni!

Hrmn - I like it - tall buildings. Don't limit the free runnability, though - that's just pants. Maybe take a % of the wastelands and convert a % of the junkyards. --Funt Solo Scotland flag.JPG 08:51, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Okay, I'm not sure if they should be free runnable or not, 'cause I got a lot of people telling me different things. ----Cap'n Silly FOOGER! 05:24, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

You could go either way with this one. Construction sites would probably have a fence (like a junkyard), so we could treat them the same way IRT barricades and free running. On the other hand, the walls aren't done yet, so you could argue for no barricades whatsoever. (Treat like an outdoor space except for the binoculars/suicide/searching...) What do you think? --Uncle Bill 23:24, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
Well, there was this suggestion in Peer Review. This place could be limited same as Junkyards. Personally, I don't think they SHOULD be Free Runnable (especially if most are converted from wastelands), but a mix might be...okay (those converted from wastelands no, but those converted from junkyards, yes). Of the course something significant to consider would be FENCES. I'd have to think a fence would be important to this particular location, but without fences, the location is a bit limited.--Pesatyel 03:44, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
