Throw Bones

Timestamp: Nimble Zombie 21:17, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
Type: Zombie equavalent of guns
Scope: Zombies
Description: I have been reading through sugestions, and I noticed that a lot of suggestions that give zombies a gun-like attack don't do too well. My suggestion gives zombies a gun-like attack and makes it more fun to attack survivors when you're a zombie. Whenever you are playing as a zombie, when you kill a survivor, you have the option to "take some bones". If you click no, the option is lost until you kil another survivor. If you press yes, you take 3-5 (100% chance to get at least 3 bones, 50% chance to get the fourth also, and 50% to get the final bone, although it doesn't add up to 200%) large bones from the dead survivor, for 1 AP. Each bone is 1 inventory space. No peanalty is incurred on the dead survivor when he or she stands up. If they stand up before you grab their bones, they push you off and you will have half chances to get the bones. The zombie can throw the bones at someone for 5 damage, using up one bone, hitting something mith massive force. The zombies have a 10% chance to hit, and it goes up to 25% to hit when they get Death Grip. The survivor who was killed gets all his bones back when he or she is revived. The bones are the same as the pipe/baseball bat for a survivor. For those of you who say "no, that's out of genre" consider that zombies can function without bones, and why couldn't a syringe that already is able to bring you back to life also be able to restore bones?

Discussion

  • Eh, I'm not sure. It's close to useless enough that no-one would use it. The proliferation of Flak jackets means that this would be an attack of 4, at a maximum of 25%, whereas biting is 4 with a maximum of 30% (more with the tangling grasp bonus) and lots of other fun stuff too. Admittedly you'd probably buy Death Grip a lot earlier, so this is a bonus for lower-level zombies. I remain to be convinced of its usefulness. Also, there are a few areas where it's incomplete: does it cost AP to take bones? What if they stand up or get dumped before you can? What size are the bones in your inventory, and what chance of receiving 3, 4, or 5? Can you use them after revival as a survivor? What bonuses apply then? --ExplodingFerret 21:39, 9 December 2006 (UTC) :*I have all this written down somewhere, hold on. --Nimble Zombie 21:42, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Finished it. I needed to add a bit more.
  • Because there is a difference between structural support and brain-deadness. -Mark 21:27, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
  • You miss the point. It's not the fact that zombies are brain dead instead of osteoperis-afflicted, that we're voting on. If you dont like my explanation, make up another one. --Nimble Zombie 21:30, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
  • spam - I got as far as the bones. (aka throw me a feckin' bone here) --Funt Solo Scotland flag.JPG 21:31, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Spam - You said yourself that suggestions that give zombies gun like features/weapons don't do very well so you post another gun like attack. --MarieThe Grove 21:50, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Are you voting that because of the suggestion or that zombie guns don't do well in general? --Nimble Zombie 21:52, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Spam - Useless, The hit rate makes it puny in comparison to clawing attacks, which do 60% at 3 damage compared to this 5 damage at 25%. It will be ignored.--Mr yawn Scotland flag.JPG 22:15, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Refine your suggestion, refine your responses to votes and criticism. Suggestions that have gotten voted down have made it in. I like your suggestion in its current form. I like the fun and flavour it may add. --Ev933n 23:27, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
    • What do I need to refine? --Nimble Zombie 23:51, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
  • You need to improve the damage per AP of this thing. But not too much. -- Ashnazg 0802, 10 December 2006 (GMT)
    • Should I up the hit rate or damage itself?
  • Sorry Nimble, I just don't like the flavour of this one -- boxy T L PA DA 13:14, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Why would a zombie throw a bone at someone? That just doesn't make sense, especially when there are much harder things around they could throw (a baseball bat or pipe thrown at you would hurt a lot more than a bone). Also, there is NO way a thrown human bone could do as much damage as a pistol round. No, this wouldn't work at all. If you want to give zombies a gun-like attack, fine. But make sure it makes sense! --Reaper with no name TJ! 00:18, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Why would a zombie even carry bones, let alone throw them at someone? These are zombies we're talking about, not cave men. They'd stagger in swinging, not tossing large bones. Overall, this system is flawed. -Mark 02:11, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
    • OK, to the two above me, you forget that it is not the point of WHY a zombie would throw a bone, its that the zombie IS throwing a bone. And remember, these zombies can smash through boarded up windows, so I'd expect them to be able to throw a thigh bone at you with their INHUMAN srength, and do a LOT of damage. Besides, if you dont believe a zombie could/would throw bones, try playing Doom 3. They throw bones at you. --Nimble Zombie 01:25, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
      • If you can't justify why a zombie would throw a bone, then they shouldn't do it. Besides, this isn't Doom, or else the zombies would be using shotguns and pistols just like the survivors. You also fail to address the dexterity issues. And even with the superior physical strength of zombies, this wouldn't be able to explain away a human thigh bone being as deadly as a pistol shot. And to top it all off, none of this changes the fact that there are other things around that would much more effective as thrown weapons than bones. Your heart's in the right place, but your brain is not. Find some other way of giving zombies a powerful but inaccurate ammo-based attack. --Reaper with no name TJ! 18:23, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
