Rule amendment regarding newer users

Thinking about throwing this on for a while. Thoughts?

  • Users with no contributions are removed immediately. If they have a userpage, that should be put up for Speedy Deletions (crit 11.}
  • Users with less then five contributions, and who have been inactive for a day, are removed immediately (no strike-out required.)
  • Users with less then fifty contributions, and who have been inactive for a week, are given a strike out, with a warning posted, and removed a three days after that
  • Users with less then one hundred contributions, and who have been inactive for two weeks, are are given a strike out, with a warning posted, and removed a three days after that

I know this might sound anti-newbie, but this is so it doesn't get filled up with red links of users that aren't part of the community (yet.)

Oh, good god! The bureaucracy of it all! If anyone has been inactive for more than a month, just remove their template (anyone looking for someone who hasn't been here for a month should know how to find them in other ways). Newbies (less than 50 edits) who UHUB themselves, and don't contribute for a week, can be removed after a week of non contribution. No need for talk page warnings (and having to check back on the talk page), no need for strike outs. Re-addition to the list to to easy for people to get upset about being removed -- boxy talkteh rulz 11:19 7 December 2008 (BST)
I have a habit of making things more complex then they have to be. Perhaps just move all inactive users to a separate page (UHUB/inactive?) Linkthewindow  Talk  11:29, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
You've got to remember what the point of this page is. It's to make it easy to find someone who is often searched for because it's hard to remember their user name. If someone has become inactive, they're unlikely to be searched for... hell, I would have no problem with my name being removed from the list, because if someone can't remember my short name, then they don't really need to find me that bad. This isn't supposed to be a definitive list of active users, it's meant to make it easy to find regular contributors with hard to remember names -- boxy talkteh rulz 11:43 7 December 2008 (BST)
Keep it simple. 1st day of the month, if you haven't edited in a month you're gone! --Rosslessness 11:46, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Striking out users

We should probably have something clear to do over the striking out of users here. Knowing the wiki, striking out a user could cause some drama, so I've written this to clarify when you can, and when you cannot. Using myself as an example:

After two months without an edit, the user is striken out (using a <s> strikeout) and has Inactive (2 months) and a timestamp under there name.

Like so:

| | Linkthewindow ‎ | | Linkthewindow's talk page | | Linkthewindow's contributions | | n/a | | n/a |-

  • Inactive (2 months.) 21:12, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

The month counter is updated, and so is the timestamp.

Alternativly, I have just created the following template. It's currently in my userspace, but will be moved if this passes.

The template, User:Linkthewindow/UHUBi (will become {{UHUBi|name=example|month=example}}, formats like this:

Linkthewindow talk contribs

  • Inactive (2 months) 00:19, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

(It should also be timestamped using five tides (~~~~~.)

In short, to move from a regular UHUB template, to a UHUBi, you simply have to add an i to the end of UHUB, and a month= section.

After a strikeout, a warning should be posted on the user's talk page.

After six months, the user is simply removed from the UHUB. The only exception to this are current sysops, they must be demoted first (and they should be anyway after six months of inactivity.)

Of course, after removal, a user can add themselves again at any time, assuming they are active on the wiki.

Thoughts? Linkthewindow  Talk  21:12, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Addition (10:29, 1 December 2008 (UTC)). Users with no contributions can be struck immediately, and deleted after a day. Users with less then 50 edits, and that have been inactive for a week are also subject to this rule. All users are only allowed one redirect-that includes nicknames and alts. Linkthewindow  Talk  10:29, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
Finally, I also suggest that all rules be moved to a separate page, to prevent clogging. Linkthewindow  Talk  10:30, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

This should be easier. 2 months and warnings and shit will mean the page will get clogged. 2 months would be fine if it meant you could be automatically removed with no warning. Or perhaps 1 month you get a warning (if someone can be bothered) and 1 week later it gets deleted, if no one bothers with a warning 2 months means autodeletion. Thoughts? --xoxo 02:19, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

I tend to agree. If you've not contributed for a couple of months, no warning is really necessary. Just delete. It's not like it's hard to reinsert a link if anyone wants it there -- boxy talkteh rulz 08:24 2 December 2008 (BST)
I would rather a 2 month warning, 1 month autodeletion after that, but I'll go with consensus. Should inactive sysops be the exception? Linkthewindow  Talk  10:36, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
I don't think that sysops need special attention in this. In fact I'd remove the sysop label from each entry. It just clutters the page, and if someone is looking for a sysop, there's a link to Special:Listusers/sysop at the top of the page -- boxy talkteh rulz 11:37 2 December 2008 (BST)

I'm still not sure what we should do about newer users. Of course, their redirect shouldn't be removed immediately, but if it should be removed sooner then an established user's redirect. I don't think many of us want this page full of red links. Linkthewindow  Talk  11:57, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

I'm struck out, but very much active. The hub asks for just one name per player/user. . . . .and I was active on another wiki account. . . Anyways edits made today as Gus Thomas should definitely show I'm active again. --Gus ThomasSpartaZHU 18:24, 7 May 2009 (BST)
