The Downe Family

Gregory Downe (or Downing in the original family records) has little history, at least in a written form, within the boundaries of Malton. What is known is that Gregory met with Christoff Morliere while at university and, helped by Joshua Bowerman & Nathaniel Pollet, went on to build 1 of 4 railway stations in Dartside that brought in all the necessary ingredients for a city - people & supplies. Why Gregory Downe chose to use the historical family name for the station has never been revealed.

Other then a mention in each of the other railway stations, (all have plaques naming the other three) the Downing name holds much mystery and, frankly, an even greater helping of secrecy. While there isn't much written about him, it stands to reason that his part in Dartside is far greater then has ever been recorded, since it was his friendship with the other three leading citizens and his railway that helped create the city of Dartside.

The Downe family tree is an interesting read, if tragedy is your thing. Gregory Downe's fortunes hit a major wall following the Dartside project, and though his family and descendents remained in Malton the money slowly got tighter and tighter. By the turn of the second millennium what was left the family had moved out of town, with only one or two members remaining. Three lived in Dartside, maintaining the railway station. One had moved to Judgewood, becoming a lawyer in a minor law firm. And the last, hardest hit, had become a systems analyst in Santlerville.
