The Great Suburb Group Massacre

2008 | 2009 | 2010 | 2010 Rd. 2 | 2011 | 2012 | 2013 | 2019

Extreme Example

Looked at Pitneybank lately?

43 groups are currently listed as active in that burb. Which works out at a group every 2 and a bit squares. Sound realistic? No not to me either. So lets do someting about it.

Note 30 of the above mentioned groups appear to be inactive.

There have been over 1500 survivor groups alone in Malton's History. How many are active? Who knows? Probably a tiny proportion. I think its time we cleaned house. Make the wiki a tiny bit more accurate.

How are we getting on?

Thanks to more mad people joining the cause, less than three weeks after the start of the Massacre, all 100 suburbs have been queried, and already 26 suburbs have been cleared of inactivity.

At least 100 groups have been removed so far, and in some cases whole suburbs have actually been revealed to have NO ACTIVE GROUPS! (Stand up Galbraith Hills).

Only another 2 weeks to go!

Forward Men! --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 18:34, 31 July 2008 (BST)

21 Suburbs Remain to be updated as of this writing. Special thanks to Nubis for creating the confirmed template, although I'd like to knock out the 21 remaining burbs first before going back through the other 79 to update the discussion pages of the groups that are active.

--Adavastor 17:46, 18 August 2008 (BST)

6 burbs to go. I'll try and get this thing buried tonight. --RosslessnessWant a Location Image? 13:41, 19 August 2008 (BST)

Finished off Spracklingbank, completing this first run. Woohoo! --Pedentic 03:55, 20 August 2008 (BST)

What to do?

Simple. Pick a suburb, and post the following template on the talk page of every group listed.

Stop hand.png Group Active? Request.
In order to maintain the wiki as an up to date source of information groups are occasionally removed from the Suburb pages when they are no longer active. Is this group still active? If so simply confirm here by writing something below. If not it will be removed from suburb pages in 14 days.

To use just type {{Template:Group Active?}}

Then just add your signature. This dates the request.

What Next?

After two weeks, check back. No reply?

Then Add this Template

Stop hand.png Group Inactive?
No reply has been recieved as to whether this group is still active. The 14 days have passed and as such the groups link has been removed from suburb listings. If the group is again active please feel free to revert these changes

by using {{Template:Group Inactive?}}

and add your signature.

Before removing the group from the suburb listings.

As a final courtesy add something to the news section of the suburb similar to this.

After weeks with no sightings group have been removed from the suburb.

If the group is confirmed this template will be added by changing the ? in {{Template:Group Active?}} to an !.

Check-Mark-Reviewed.jpg Group Confirmed.
This group was confirmed active. Thank you for your reply.

Stupid questions and important info

  • DO NOT delete groups in the historical section of each suburb. They have earned their place to remain for all to see.
  • You are asking if a group is active, not Where they are active. If a group is active in many suburbs, when you go to post your template you may already see one on the talk page, where another individual following a link from another suburb has asked if the group is active. There is no need to post another query unless a significant amount of time has passed since the last active request was posted.
  • Ask stupid questions. You know The Dead are an active group, but not everyone else does. Having a template on their page which lets them declare their activeness stops people wasting their time talking to inactive groups.

Useful information

Want to find out what pages a group are listed on? Simply go to the group page and click on the What links here tab on the right of your screen. Amongst other things this will have a list of all suburbs the group are listed on. When you check a suburb for activity timestamp it on the list below, to show which suburbs have not been checked recently. Update: As of August 13, all unchecked suburbs are ready to be checked.

Suburbs are listed from top left to bottom right.

Issues to (Potentially) Be Addressed Later

  • Large groups such as the DEM that are active but may not be active in all the suburbs they are listed in.
  • Treatment of alliances. Is the Dulston Alliance operating in a suburb when only one of their member groups is operating there?
  • Groups that don't call a suburb home.
