May 31, 2007 - Caiger Mall Liberated!

Since early May, joint operations by the Caiger Mall Survivors and other pro-survivor groups have done what has been seemingly impossible since the Mall Tour '07's rampage. Caiger Mall has been retaken, and is currently held in survivor hands. Populated by more than three-hundred defenders, the mall has been undergoing steady attacks since the retaking in early May. All of these have been easily repulsed, however, and as such the mall can be deemed liberated from zombie hands. Survivors in the area seem to be elated, firing flares and weapons into the air in celebration of their triumph. When interviewed, one CMS member noted, "We've got your barhah right here." Another survivor standing nearby noted in an aside to us, "Yeah, they just... say that sometimes. Well, more then sometimes... they say it a LOT."
Despite the survivor forces in the area, and the good feelings wafting through the mall, some survivors cannot help but speculate on the shadowed movements of zombies in the area. Rumors of high-level zombie organization and attacks upon the mall are spoken in low voices by some among the survivors, in the wake of systematic attacks on the Latrobe Necrotech building. Only time will tell if these rumors prove true, and if the survivors can cement their hold on the aincent bastion and symbol of humanity. --Davurnium 16:33, 31 May 2007 (BST)

IREPORT - Arthur Patstone

Battle! Things continue to escalate in the now roughly week-old fight for Tompson Mall! The latest reports have zombie numbers nearing siege levels at around ninety undead beings attacking the NW quarter of the Mall, as a survivor force of between fifty-sixty defenders holds the line! Will the Mall stand as a beacon for survivors in SW Malton, or will the undead feast anew? Keep your eye on the Mirror to find out! - Arthur Patstone

Valiant Valkyrie Seeks Peace! After one of the worst break-ins of the battle on the night of May 2nd, Izumi Orimoto has declared her intent to seek a peaceful agreement with the zombie forces attacking Tompson Mall. Leader of the Lockettside Valkyries, Ms. Orimoto is "known for her charm and care of both surviors and what she calls 'fallen comrades.'" Ms. Orimoto is, essentially, the closest thing to a peace activist Malton has. Her stance is even more admirable in the face of a full-blown battle such as the current events at Tompson. How she intends to negotiate with the zombies is unknown, as are her odds for success. But this reporter feels that everyone should know about the woman willing to risk her life for the safety of all of Malton's citizens. Victory in Sight? After teasing survivors with a possible full-blown siege, the zombies have been dropping in number rapidly in the past few days. Where they once numbered more than ninety the undead forces now struggle to even reach fifty. The survivors, meanwhile, outnumber the zombies for the first time with roughly seventy defenders!
A man known as Sgtkirby45, who has been one of the leaders of the rag-tag defense, had this to say: "Looks like we are winning. It is too early to say anything, but thank you guys for coming here, defending, sleeping, and even doing some night shift. Without everyone's help, this mall would've died a long time ago. I believe this is the 3rd or 4th week since the mall has been under attack." It should be noted that this comment throws the timeline into perspective; previously the earliest knowledge of the battle this reporter had was when word reached him in Ruddlebank on April 25th. The Sergeant had earlier, in a rallying speech, vowed to defend the mall for months if necessary. The sudden turning of the tide has him, and everyone else, optimistic but wary of undead tricks.
Another defender called Krimsin was sighted killing zombies and hurling them over the barricades screaming "This is SPARTA!" Not only was this an amusing rally cry for the defenders, it also pointed out how even the quarantine has not completely cut Malton off from the outside world.
On a more sombre note, a group of murderers called The Profile Police claimed several lives in the mall. Ms. Orimoto (apparently having been unable to establish total peace) has declared her animosity towards these people, with the full support of her organization.
Things may seem to be winding down, but we're staying here until the very last moment! Our next report will most likely be celebrating a victory or declaring a return of the undead menace. Keep reading to find out which! - Arthur Patstone

Celebration! Once the zombie numbers fell, that was the beginning of the end. The undead horde never properly recovered. Bolstered by their success in holding back a horde whenver they had been outnumbered and encouraged by their now superior numbers, survivors took to the streets and directly assaulted the remaining undead forces. The result was a slaughter: as of this report a mere twelve zombies stand outside Tompson Mall, allowing the Mall to be declared a safe zone and the battle over.
Thanks to the fog of war and the nature of the enemy, it will never be exactly known what swung the battle in the survivors' favor. The largest factor would probably be attrition; faced with a defense they could not break many zombies probably left to find easier prey. There are also rumors that several of Ms. Orimoto's peace negotiations succeeded in convincing at least some of the horde to either leave or rejoin the living. An overall factor was the nature of the horde; it was not organized and made no concerted attacks as a single entity. Either way, things are now safe around Tompson Mall. Residents of the mall remain cautious, as the battle has left more than one hundred bodies lying on the ground outside. But for now the survivors are starting to focus on securing other parts of Lockettside.
The victory at Tompson coincides with a Whatmorian victory in Yagoton to the north, in what appears to be a city-wide effort to push the zombies away from the east and to reduce zombie numbers in the west. Included in this apparent push alongside these two battles is the return of Caiger Mall to survivor hands, assisted by members of the DHPD. Also, Tompson is vital to the safety of the adjacent suburb of Ruddlebank. As Ruddlebank is one of the only survivor strongholds in the southwest, this victory has been a great boon to the survivor cause. For now, Tompson is safe. Congrats to the defenders, and good luck!
