Description

The Mart Motel stands behind a concrete wall, one of its nicer features. The wall, some six feet tall, encloses a courtyard that might have been attractive once, but is now overgrown, the hedges rising above the surrounding wall. The smell of chlorine is strong in the air through the short summer, and surprisingly enough the small pool, though only half full, is kept fairly clean. Stairs lead up to a balcony at either end of the building, and multicolored doors stagger the plain white-and freshly repainted- stucco walls.

The place has a lived-in feel, despite first appearances. Children's toys litter the concrete apron of the pool, and the air often carries the scent of charcoal and grilling burgers.
